Seas0nPass has been updated to support an un-tethered jailbreak of the new AppleTV 4.3 (8F455) software. A big thanks goes to comex for helping port the Saffron jailbreak to the AppleTV. For the uninitiated, Seas0nPass is the simplest jailbreaking tool available for the AppleTV, and the first to support the new 4.3 version.

What's new in AppleTV 4.3?

- iTunes TV Shows: Purchase your favorite TV shows directly from the iTunes Store, and watch the shows you already own, in HD.
- Vimeo: Browse and play videos from Vimeo, access your video inbox, and mark videos you want to watch later.
- 4.3 is also required to access Movie and TV Show rentals.

What happens to my jailbreak and settings if I choose to update?

If you choose to update you will lose your current installation of aTV Flash (black) and any related settings. If the above features don't excite you the auto-update feature can be disabled through the Maintenance --> Settings menu.

Is aTV Flash (black) compatible?

Yes! aTV Flash (black) Beta6 is compatible with the new 4.3 software. Simply re-run the aTV Flash (black) installer after jailbreaking and you'll be automatically be updated to the latest and greatest version.

Additionally we have a shiny new version of Media Player (0.7.1) for you!

What's new in Media Player 0.7.1?

  • Added more subtitle encoding types
  • Added subtitle options (size, color, border)
  • Added support for folder cover art
  • Improved audio track detection
  • Improved AFP/SMB streaming
  • Improved chapter support
  • Improved .srt subtitle support
  • Improved subtitle settings (persistent)
  • Improved DVD playback and menu handling
  • Improved appearance of Loading/Buffering box
  • Resolved crashes when trying to access a broken/unavailable share
  • Resolved issues related to displaying metadata
  • Other miscellaneous fixes

Great! How do I update?

The latest version of Seas0nPass (and user guides) can be found at seas0npass.com.

The new version of Media Player can be downloaded on your ATV2 through the Maintenance --> Manage Extras menu. If you need to re-install aTV Flash (black), links for the latest version can be found under the Downloads tab in your account.

New users can pre-order aTV Flash (black) here.

Enjoy Smile

Super awesome. Thanks!

This is my first TV jailbroken update. If I understand it right, when there's an update I pretty much update the TV software the same as any unjailbroken TV, then re-jailbreak and re-add aTV, then re-setup aTV from scratch, right? Just making sure before I go obliterating everything. Thanks again!

You can actually run Seas0nPass straight away. Doing this will update and jailbreak your AppleTV at the same time.

Great, going to try it right away Wink

I don't completely get it. To use Seas0nPass, do you have to buy the atv flash also? Or does the ATV flash run alone?

Submitted by Anonymous on August 19, 2011 - 3:46pm

But when upgrading to AppleTV 4.3 and then re-installing aTV flash, do I loose all the media I previously uploaded through aTV or it will still be there when re-install of aTV is completed?

Does anyone try to use Netflix subtitles on Apple TV with this jailbreak updates 4.3? because Wii Netlflix, iPad, iPhone, and Windows does have subtitles. Please let me know. Thanks

Submitted by james on August 19, 2011 - 3:48pm

They are separate.

aTV Flash (black) requires Seas0nPass to first jailbreak the AppleTV, but Seas0nPass can be run on it's own without aTV Flash (black).

I just jailbroke my ATV2 using the newest Seas0nPass. Installed the newest aTV black. Installed Media Player from Maintenance -> Manage Extras. Restarted lowtide. Result: the "Media" menu is no where to be found, despite that the Manage Extras menu shows it to be installed. Please help. I've already reinstalled aTV black. Still no Media menu.

FYI: The Media menu is the only reason I'm using FireCore, so to have two updates in a row break the Media menu is kind of disconcerting.

Submitted by shauneliastam on August 19, 2011 - 3:53pm

SeasOnPass runs independently of ATV flash black. The only way you can run ATV flash black is to jailbreak your apple tv by running SeasOnPass jailbreak software.

Does this kill the XBMC support?

Submitted by Pfingstl on August 19, 2011 - 3:58pm

I have the same problem.

No Media Menu ???

(send Diagnostic info)

Submitted by davidbayles on August 19, 2011 - 4:05pm

Just installed NitoTV to see if that menu would show up. After restarting Lowtide, both the NitoTV and Media menus showed up. So problem solved for now.

I am having a problem with some movies using chapters. If I try to use the chapters (or fast forward) to the middle of the movie (where I left off), the progress bar acts like it's playing (i.e. the time increases) but whatever frame was up when I started fast forwarding (or using the chapter controls) stays frozen on the screen. Bottom line I can't start watching some movies from anywhere but the beginning. Both movies where mkvs. Please fix.

The movies are on an external usb drive (AFP Share) connected to my MacBook Pro. My ATV2 is connected to the same N wifi network as my MBP.

I can't seem to install Seasonpass to my Apple TV2. It fails when iTunes verifies with the Apple server....it says: The Apple Tv could not be restored. This device is not eligible for this build.

Any one help me on this?

Thanks in advance!

Also noticed I'm getting a "iTunes restore script failed!" message in Seasonpass also....

Hope this helps!

Thanks in advance

Installed the new update. Not seeing the seas0npass menu on first boot though? Tried installing Plex also, and same thing. Menu system looks stock. Am I missing something?

Submitted by Anonymous on August 19, 2011 - 4:40pm

Then don't! That's all I want too, so install Overflow (I think that's what it's called) and put everything you don't want under it. Don't insall, XBMC, NitoTV, Plex, Rowmote, etc.

Submitted by james on August 19, 2011 - 4:44pm

As mentioned here (http://support.firecore.com/entries/387605) the current version will not add a Seas0nPass menu.

Plex most likely needs an update for the new 4.3 version.

Multo bene

I have upgraded both sp to 8f455 and atv flash to to days version.

First I panicked when  the sp menu was gone in my atv menus until I found out that this did not mean that my JB was not working. ATV could be installed. I can live without the sp menu item

I now run mp 071 and my crashes on partucular files are history. Evrything seems to work fine

However, I cannot find the announced subtitle display options. Where and how should I look??. I would love to find that option since in some movies the subs have bad resolution or strange colour effects at the edge of the characters

I can also no longer find the toggle for the  the advanced 'in movie menu' to switch between scenes, audio, and subtitles. This feature is now on permanently active . Works fine for me

Is this update available to appletv white?
Thanks

Submitted by bcbounders on August 19, 2011 - 5:27pm

Request:  When you post these updates, can you include any known issues with other "Extras"?  I just went through the upgrade to 4.3 using the new Seas0nPass... and now there's no Plex.  Went through the re-install of the Plex client, and it's STILL not showing in the menu.

I really NEED Plex! (it's almost a physical need... I've become so addicted, LOL!)

I wouldn't have gone through the update yet if I had known it would prevent me from using Plex on my ATV2!

When do you expect embedded subtitle support ?

Submitted by ozgazl on August 19, 2011 - 5:54pm

Just ran the new season pass update and then installed firecore. Added weather, media player but now when trying to add remotehd the manage extras menu is freezing up each time I go in to it. It then crashes after a few mins and low tide restarts. Will send diagnostics report now, cheers

James,

I cannot get xmbc to work on they Seasonpass/aTV Flash build.  I get a Error 2:share not available.

You say "it still works"...have you actually tried xmbc?

I just want media player to play m4V files....but it won't it juts buffers and crashes and restarts the Apple TV.

Do you plan to add m4v to the list of playable files?

Thanks in advance for all your help

Huh? I'm a paying ATV Flash (black) customer. Please tell me in plain simple terms what I should do and what I can expect as an improvement from it. This is misleading nonsense. Tell it to us straight - or lose our paying patronage, dumb-asses

Submitted by james on August 19, 2011 - 6:16pm

If you don't have a reason to update the AppleTV software you don't need to.

Updates for the aTV Flash (black) plugins can be installed through the Maintenance --> Manage Extras menu.

The new subtitle options are available in the subtitle section of the Playback menu.

The Playback menu can be accessed by holding the center (select) button while playing a video in Media Player.

Seems that RemoteHD plugin is broken. Although it installs, it does not work. Uninstall won't work after either. Anyone know where to download the latest 4.3.4 and install manually?

I went through the entire process again but run in to the same issue with manage extras menu freezing/low tide restarting after a few mins. Will submit another diag report and restore previous vers.

Can you add backup and restore to Seas0nPass for ATV Flash (black) settings?

Would it be possible for me to do that manually without any side effects after a restore? If it can be done, can you tell me the directories where the Media Player shares, favourites and watched list are?

Can you also give me an explanation about how folder cover art works? I understand that cover art in the previous release worked by having a .jpg with the same filename as the video file.

Hi, Remote HD is still not running. Do you work on an update?

Submitted by AppleTv User on August 20, 2011 - 2:12am

I had 4.2.something on my Apple TV, plus seasonpass and had it jailbroken. Worked a treat.

I enabled updates to install 4.3. I got all the way through the update, and it restarted lots of times, then on the last one (after applying the install) it just restarted to show the apple logo - for about 45 minutes, with nothing happening. I reset the power, and it just loads to the same point - apple logo.

Any ideas??

Regards

same problem here, any solution yet ?

Submitted by darren.blackley on August 20, 2011 - 2:50am

James

I have highlighted and request a feature addition to the tool set, and I would like to raise it again.  A tool is required to allow for backup of the /private/var/mobile/Library/Preferences data and subfolders to the local computer.  Sure this can be done manually using SSH and FTP, however I simple tool for those users to make this a click and finish outcome would be far better.

That's my 50 cents worth for today....

Hi guys,

successfully updated IOS and installed aTV Flash. My aTV now constantly crashes when exiting Media Player slideshows (playing photos from smb shares). I have to kill /Applications/AppleTV.app/AppleTV or reboot the device.

I also realized that pictures played in Media Player look far worse than the same pictures played in XBMC.

Submitted by bruenu on August 20, 2011 - 5:24am

I don't update yet, I got again the 1394 Itunes Error, last time I had the same problem with the signature server from Apple and can't update my device. But I'll wait for the IOS 5, everything I need it is in the old FW Wink
