We are pleased to announce the release aTV Flash (black) 2.0 for the 2nd generation Apple TV. Version 2.0 goes beyond just watching videos, and adds in a ton of new features that make browsing and watching media on the Apple TV more enjoyable than ever.

2.0 is a free update for all current aTV Flash (black) users, so keep reading for more details on everything that's new.

Browse by category

The new Library View will now index all your media (even if stored on multiple devices) and automatically organize movies, TV shows and music into easy to use categories such as: genre, release date, star rating, age rating and others. TV shows will also be group by series/season automatically so there's no more worrying about keeping your folders perfectly organized.

While we think this is a great new way to browse and enjoy your media, the original file/folder based browsing will remain intact and working as an alternative option.

Fully integrated search

Sometimes you know what you want to watch, and don't want to browse. With our new integrated search you can do just that. This powerful search tool allows you to search by movie, TV series/episode, song, artist, album or filename. Just start typing and the results will start being displayed instantly.

Keep it all in sync

Also new for 2.0 is trakt.tv syncing. This is a great feature if you're trying to keep multiple Apple TVs in sync, as if you watch a movie on the first device it will also appear as watched on the 2nd. Additionally, if you manually mark a movie or show as watched on trakt.tv, it will automatically get marked as watched on the Apple TV. In a similar fashion, Last.fm scrobbling allows you track music plays in your Last.fm profile.

Full changelog

  • Added all-new Library View
  • Added integrated media search
  • Added trakt.tv 2-way syncing
  • Added Last.fm scrobbling
  • Added genre/artist based playlists
  • Added Recently Added display option

since the update, playing a VIDEO_TS movie, i get the spinning wheel saying "buffering" a lot!

sometimes even every minute. happens with several movies but all VIDEO_TS.

This did not happen before and the only thing that changed is the update on the Apple TV. all other stuff like the computer and the network didn't undergo any changes...

could it be that the improved AFP connections in the update have anything to do with it?

any idea's on what to do now? watching a movie which is interrupted every minute isn't that much fun...

I'm having an issue with MEDIA PLAYER I'm constantly losing my Shares. If I shut down my apple TV i have to go back in and put in the username/password for my NAS drive. Its really annoying considering I have to get metadata all over again -__-. Has anyone else seen this issue or found a fix?

Thanks

Try iDentify.

I am awaiting quiet some time on the ATV3 version of aTV Flash!

I have a problem since the new update of Media Player. It buffers every single minute on every video file with 2 types of shares - time capsule and mac. I've restored the ATV, I am now on 5.0.2 with atv flash black 2.0 and still the same... Is it a bug in Media Player?

Submitted by jasonlabossiere on October 15, 2012 - 11:04am

With The ATV Flash (black) It seams to have some compatibility issues as I did the ssh way and navi-x works fine and even after I install ATV Flash (black) it is one of the extras that ATV Flash (black) provides that makes it so Navi-X no longer works.

I hope they get that fixed  would rather have my Navi-X working then all this other stuff.

Can some one or admin look into this?

Submitted by Anon on October 15, 2012 - 1:57pm

All my movies and series are in iTunes and organized by iTunes. I like it that way.
Result is that my series (Dexter e.g.) are in iTunes Library/TV Series/Dexter/Season 07/03 Buck The System.m4a

Unfortunatelly, aTV Media Player's library doesn't recognitize The video as a tv show, but as "other".
Any solution?

Submitted by mega129 on October 15, 2012 - 10:23pm

Love the Media player on ATV Flash 2.0. Just two issues

1) subtitles. Like most folks here, I have several movies on my NAS (avi, mp4, mkv). Each movie file is in it's own folder with a separate subtitle srt file in the same folder, named exactly the same as the movie, except for the extension. However, the subititles just don't display when playing the movie.

What's more frustrating is I can see the subtitle track is selected (holding down PLay while selecting the movie), but it doesn't display.

There's no display problems when using XBMC. Aaargh!

PLEASE help. One thing that I can think of is the file name is rather long. Do you think that might be the issue? shorter file names?

I will be so grateful to anyone who helps me figure this out.

2) The player is quite eager to download and display movie fanart, even when it's obviously not correct. I can't find a way to control this in the settings. At the very least I'd like to point to some other jpg in my folder, or be able to rename the movie filename on the fly to force a different download. Any control or settings available along these lines?

I believe your problem is in the extension...

03 Buck The System.m4a should be:

03 Buck The System.m4v

Go to maintenance under 3rd party add on's the first one Air Control (BETA) click right on your apple remote and hit remove. If it doe not allow you scroll over to the next screen and all the way at the bottom there is a button that say relaunch Apple TV. This will clear your cache and go back in and repeat the removal steps of  Air Control (BETA).

There is a compatibility issue right now but it will give you your Navi-X back.

Thanks,

I have a large movie collection with subtitles in srt format. The way it works for me is saving the subtitle *.srt with Encoding UTF-8. You may need to select this encoding in the apple tv also.

soon for firecore means more than 6 months!!!

Submitted by Anon on October 20, 2012 - 1:28pm

ATV3 JB is never going to happen imho.
Otherwise it would have been done already.

Submitted by Anon on October 20, 2012 - 2:32pm

It's not firecores problem that you purchased unsupported hardware.

Submitted by Anon on October 21, 2012 - 4:00am

I have same problem!!! Any one know what we can to do????Thanks

Submitted by Anon on October 21, 2012 - 3:00pm

Wow, that some very good insight right there.
Tell me more about how to jailbreak iOS software?!

Submitted by cesarvog on October 23, 2012 - 10:07am

How can I get aTV Flash (Black) 2.01? (mentioned at http://firecore.com/atvflash-black-changelog).

I thought maybe I would need to download it again, but ended up with the same DMG file time stamped Sept 11, 2012. AFAIK, that was when 2.0 was announced. I went ahead, mounted the downloaded image and pressed command-I on the PKG file inside. It says it is still version 2.0.

Submitted by james on October 23, 2012 - 12:46pm

The 2.0.1 update can be installed on the Apple TV through the Maintenance > Manage Extras menu.

Submitted by cesarvog on October 24, 2012 - 10:34am

Thanks for the fast reply. I also thought so, but... When I go there, all items are either "Installed" or "Not Installed", none is "Upgrade" (or "Update"). Also, when I go to the about tab, it says "aTV Flash (black) 2.0" on the first line. What am I doing wrong?

For what it is worth, my AppleTV 2nd gen. is running 5.0.2 (4250)

I wrote to FireCore several days ago, asking to know when the promised revision would be released and suggesting they're only promoting VAPORWARE. They've been promising for god-knows-how-long a version of aTV Flash for the 3rd gen AppleTV, but apparently they have no intention of actually doing so. FireCore is happy to accept our money by deceiving us into believing the software they buy will work on their newer AppleTVs. Guess what? FireCore never replied to my email. I wish customers would get together and file a class-action lawsuit for those broken promises. My guess is that the company will eventually release a statement claiming Apple has done something making it impossible to fulfill their promise, but not offering any refunds.

PS: I wonder how long this message will stay up before FireCore deletes it.

Submitted by Anon on October 26, 2012 - 11:33am

I wrote to ask if FireCore really had any intention to produce a version of aTV Flash compatible with 3G AppleTVs. To their credit they didn't write back to deny it. They instead just a boilerplate message that completely sidestepped my question.

"Hi, we're sorry for any confusion. The current version of aTV Flash (black) is compatible with the 2nd gen Apple TV, and we're hoping to have a 3rd gen compatible version available soon."

If this much time has passed after FireCore started promising a compatible version version without actually producing it, then I think it's a pretty sure bet they either don't intend to or they can't. Can anyone say "VAPORWARE?"

That might be because of the country location. Change store location and see

I bought ATV Flash for the AppleTV 2G.
Since I installed ATV Flash 2.0 my Music streaming from another iTunes Library on an iMac my AppleTV shuts down every time. Without jailbreak it works fine.
The Plex App and other apps from firecore running good.
What happens since the last release of ATV Flash ?
Please fix that problem, because without the default music streaming its useless.
I have to restore to factory settings.

Submitted by Anon on October 30, 2012 - 10:42pm

idiot, the ATV3 jailbreak isn't even out, how do you expect ATV Flash to be out for it??? Do some research!!

Submitted by Anon on October 30, 2012 - 10:51pm

After this most recent update I find I have to restart my ATV2 after watching a movie or 2 on Media Player. Is there going to be another update soon to fix what went wrong with the last update? BTW, when I go to about under Maintenance it still says I'm on 2.0 while my media player says 2.0-1. Im just getting fed up with having to restart my ATV2 so many times a day.

Submitted by Anon on October 31, 2012 - 10:55am

You are an idiot! They promise now since release of ATV3 and always only boa bla boa coming soon. This is now a year ago. ATV2's will vanish soon and then?
Hope they keep doing their work and get it done... So keep ypour mouth shut and think before write...

Submitted by toeggi on November 1, 2012 - 4:31pm

If you did do your research you would know that it's not Firecore who's responsible for jailbreaking the ATV3. They only utilize the jailbreak enable them to install their software on your ATV. The thing is that the ATV3 has proven to be tough to jailbreak for the "jailbreaking community", and thus Firecore is unable to release a version of aTV Flash for ATV3 since it cannot be installed on it yet. I'm certain Firecore will release a version of aTV Flash for ATV3 as soon as the jailbreak is out.

I've noticed the streaming issue too, I thought it was my receiver.

It looks like the aTV restarts, usually soon after starting the stream from my Mac.

Usually after the first restart, as long as I leave the stream going, its fine.

Hey there,
there was a subsequent aircontrol(beta) update. it's now v1.0whatever.
i upgraded it via maintenance. however there was no word about what has been
changed. i tried to look very hard all over, but no luck.
James, please, post a changelog or something similar.

This is not correct.

Submitted by Anon on November 19, 2012 - 2:08pm

You all are not idiots....you're jackasses! aTV WILL release a G3 version as soon as it is jail broken.

Submitted by Anon on November 19, 2012 - 5:18pm

For some reason when I try and update Maintenance, it tries to install the update, but fails every time and asks me if I want to Retry Installation (which repeats until I'm so far into fails that I have to keep clicking Menu to back out back to the main screen) or View Log (which is blank). The Update Maintenance (and Update All at the top of the screen) never go away.

Is there a way to set default audio setting? I have a bunch of MKV files that have 2 audio channels. and for some reason it keeps picking the second channel, which is the directors commentary, as its default to use.

also keep up the good work!

Submitted by Anon on November 27, 2012 - 12:05pm

Hey bloody jackass, what are you trying to tell us? Old stuff, nothing really interesting. You kid should play with legos not with ATV's... Go back toy our kindergarden and shut your mouth with things you have no clue about!

Submitted by Anon on November 28, 2012 - 8:35pm

The way to fix is to empty your cache. Your ATV gets full of images such as movie covers etc...

Does anyone know why my movies are labeled incorrectly from itunes when I'm viewing through the atv2?

Submitted by Anon on January 1, 2013 - 3:03pm

yes...most understand that they are not responsible for jail breaking...and although it is not there anymore, they did have a "Coming Soon" on their website for a very long time, obviously with nothing more than hope backing it up
