Happy New Year! Today we are happy to release an updated version of Seas0nPass that supports an untethered jailbreak of the latest 4.4.4 (iOS 5.0.1) AppleTV software. Big thanks goes to the world famous @pod2g for doing the lion's share of the work to make this new version possible.

What's new in AppleTV 4.4.4?

Thank you so much for your skills. It's been really frustrating.

PS: I have windows 7 installed. I shut off my firewall, my anti-virus. It's an ATV2 with version 4.4.4

Thanks! That's good to know. (well, not "good", but nice to know I didn't screw something up somehow haha)

jailbreak and re-install of atv flash black worked like a charm (as always). However, I have an issue installing some of the extras, particularly remote HD and weather. It loads forever and nothing happens. Is it just a server issue or something else going on?

Thanks, JK

Seas0npass does not load the firmware on my MacBook Pro with Lion. It doesn't even try to make a network request, what I could see in LittleSnitch, if it were the case. It just gets a timeout. The same problem with the sparkle updater. What's the problem? oO

I have Jailbroken my Apple TV 2 really smoothly!!

Worked like a charm on the first run!!

Thanks a lot!!

P.S. To avoid the errors I had jailbreaking my Apple TV 2 in the past, you MUST disable/turn off the Anti-Virus.

Good luck all.

I was able to jailbreak mine with some issues trying to put my ATV2 on DFu mode. after that everything was going great until after loaded XBmc i restarted my ATV2 and the only thing i can see is just the Apple logo and nothing but a blank screen after that . Any ideas how to fix this ?

error 2005 !!!! any ideas ?

Submitted by Anon on January 2, 2012 - 2:11pm

Thanks for the response.
I'm using a Mac w/ OSX 10.6.8, hence there's no 'new hardware detected' message when connecting the ATV. (OSX does not issue such notifications when USB devices are hot-plugged).

However, I've confirmed that the ATV is seen by OSX. When I connect the USB cable with the ATV connected to 110 VAC, the ATV is detected and iTunes automatically launches. The ATV is listed in the sidebar. If I wanted to, I could click RESTORE and do a conventional Apple firmware restore.

I've googled this problem, and read all the tips and techniques posted here. I finally found a recipe that worked Smile
When Seas0npass instructed me to do so, I plugged in the USB cable, then pressed Menu/Play for 7 seconds. The LED on the ATV started flashing, but nothing else happened. No DUF and no iTunes. So I momentarily connected it to the AC power, then did the 7-second button push again. Eureka, Seas0npass finally reported it was in DFU mode. I yanked the power cord out, and the process completed without further problems. After iTunes reported that the 'restore to factory settings' was complete, I unplugged the USB cable, connected power and HDMI, and let it boot up. Then connected ethernet cable when it asked about joining a wireless network.

My ATV now displays the red FC logo in the lower-right corner.I had to reconfigure the ATV from scratch (time zone, AppleID, etc), but it now seems to be working just fine. Next stop - ATV Flash Black.

Thanks to the Firecore and Seas0npass community for the great software, and the debugging tips.
Happy New Year.

I had the same issue. JB went smooth, and xbmc would appear in frontrow, but as soon as I did the reboot, I'd see the apple logo then a blank screen.

It appeared to be a problem with the xbmc install. I followed the advice in this post and added the additional step to the install plus some additional apt-get updates for good measure. xbmc is now up and running.

Worked like a charm, but Plex is not among installable items, how do i get the 0.9.0 Beta installed ?

Submitted by Anon on January 2, 2012 - 5:26pm

I was having this error. Turns out since had downloaded the previous seasonpass it was trying to install the older firmware. In seasonpass go to preferences and make sure 4.4.4 is selected. This worked for me.

Thanks for this advice!  I was banging my head against the wall because of that 1602 error.  I saw your post and decided to check out the Apple TV on the TV and sure enough it was already jailbroken!  :)

I installed Plex with the instructions in the comments and it worked like a charm!  ..and all the other apps installed perfectly too!

Happy New Year!

P.S.:  I did a proper unjailbroken Apple upgrade to 4.4.4 before running Seas0nPass.  That may help some of you people having problems.

This Will Install Beta 4 Of 0.9.0
* apt-get remove com.plex.client-plugin
* apt-get update
* apt-get install com.plex.client-plugin=
This Is the How To Guide

Submitted by brissy on January 2, 2012 - 8:53pm

I had stayed with the beta ATVBlack because I didn't want to use a tethered boot. I have read many of the comments about problems, and so it was with some reservations that I decided to take the plunge to 4.4

there may be many circumstances and builds contributing to peoples confusion and failure, but all I can do is relate my story to give people confidence, rather than solutions.

I use a MacbookPro on SnowLeopard and my ATV was on IOS4.

I actually updated the ATV to IOS5 from apple first but expect that was totally superfluous.

I carefully followed the instructions on the Seas0nPass install page at

Then moved to the ATV Flash install page and followed those instructions at

Take your time and wait for prompts to do the next step. I had absolutely no trouble at all with any of this. There was a small hiccup with Apple increasing the security on my AppleID so I had to recreate this.

So I am not sure why there is so much angst, but recognise that with any software or combinations of software on everyones PCs, there can be issues. What I hope to get across is that the steps and software provided on the firecore site work.

As in any update situation, read what the changes are and assess the benefits or otherwise of upgrading. Clearly that is/was an issue with respect to XBMC which seems have now been fixed, yet people are complaining to firecore for issues beyond their control.

I think that Firecore has done a great job on this product, and the cost of it is peanuts by software standards, and it has met all my requirements since I started using ATV.

use cyber duck for the mac and use root alpine login/combination

Submitted by james95121 on January 2, 2012 - 10:50pm

it might be your cable try using another one. that worked for me

Submitted by james95121 on January 2, 2012 - 11:00pm

i got various error too (i.e. error 2 and 1602) and tried using two different cables and turning off firewall. i must have tried it like 10 times.

Then at the end i restored to official firmware, connected to my tv (make sure it worked), then i started the whole jailbreak process again from the beginning

and then it worked just like magic. I would suggest just keep on trying and it should work

Hi ...
having problems with BT-STACK and my BT Keyboard ... It finds It but it's stuck on CONNECTING ....

any Ideas about how to fix it?

Submitted by Anon on January 3, 2012 - 5:33am

Ok after numerous messup attempts i have sorted it -

I put into dfu mode by - plugging usb and pwer cable held down and menu until led flashed release then both menu and play buttons together until led started to blink then release. A you tube vid said to remove power cable at this stage but i left mine in. I had dissabled all security ( not sure if this has an effect or not but i was at the point of breaking so thought it woulnt hurt to try as some blogs advise it )

I then restored to factory settings - came back with a restore error but had been successful when i plugged it back in to the tv.

I then repeated the jailbreak process from the beginning put into dfu thesame way - came back with a restore error 1602 but jailbreak is comlete on turning it on the tv i have the firecore logo !!

I think my problems all stem from not putting it into dfu properly.

The hold down and menu first is neccesary !!

maybe yall know that anyway im a bit of a rookie but thought this may help giving my feedback ???!!!

Submitted by endera on January 3, 2012 - 7:00am

I'm having the same problem.

Submitted by endera on January 3, 2012 - 8:27am

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Upgrade ATV2 to iOS 4.4.4 - Jailbreak with Seas0nPass
2. Install BTStack for ATV 1.0.0-4 through NitoTV
3. Go to Custom Settings->BTStack, keyaboard appears in list, try to pair.

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
I am using a no-brand Bluetooth keyboard. The keyboard was paired easily and worked fine in iOS 4.2.1 so I know it worked before. Now, when I try to start the pairing process it goes into 'Connecting' screen and sits there forever. Also, I can back out to BTLoader it works fine, but when I back out again to Frontrow, FrontRow crashes and reboots.

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
BTstack Keyboard for ATV 1.0.0-4
iOS 4.4.4

Please provide any additional information below.
I tried the same with another BT keyboard, an Rii Mini keyboard trying to see if the problem is with the keyboard but the same thing happened: Stuck on 'Connecting' screen.

I have a asrock mini computer running xbmc (openelec.tv). It runs smooth like butter. I mean the menu and playing different file type's is not a problem. So i love XBMC. Now i also have a apple tv2 with firecore jaibreak (latest 4.4.4) and installed xbmc on it. Now when i try to load my music (from a NAS) into a new library the process is interrupted and xbmc crashes. My movies got  in the library fine but evertything is awfull sluggish in the menu. Playing files is not a problem. Is this because it is the xbmc EDEN beta or more like a known issue?

Submitted by MSchioldan on January 3, 2012 - 8:44am

That doesn't work for me. What do you mean by power+down? Is it Menu+down?

Menu+down makes ATV flicker real fast, but as soon as I release them to press menu+play it stops flickering and nothing happens.

Instructions how to get PLEX (0.9.0 beta 4) on a Jailbreaked Apple TV 2 (4.4.4) [UPDATE from earlyer post]

Be sure your Apple TV2 is on

1) Start Terminal on your iMac
2) Type: ssh root@apple-tv.local3) Type: alpine (the password)
4) Type: echo "deb http://www.ambertation.de ./downloads/PLEX/" > /etc/apt/sources.list.d/plex.list
5) Type: apt-get remove com.plex.client-plugin
6) Type: apt-get update
7) Type: apt-get install com.plex.client-plugin=

Now your Apple TV2 should reset and when its starters there is PLEX.

Tip a) in stead of 2) Type: ssh root@apple-tv.local you can use 2) Type: ssh root@your IP of the Apple TV2 (eg.

Tip b) It is possible you get some errors in Terminal like " cant find ....." then maybe you have to do the instructions 2-times , just do it !

Press Yes or Y when Terminal ask for that.

(hint: you can also copy => paste the lines in terminal)

Happy New Year for Everybody

I can't SSH to my ATV2 after JB with Seas0npass. I am running Mac OS X Lion and I use Terminal -> SSH root@the-ip-address-of-my-ATV2, and I just get an "Connection refused" error. I tried it with my Windows 7 computer on the same network. I triple-checked the IP address, and it's correct. I tried Cyberduck SSH and Filezilla as well (both with the SSH connection type).... I have googled about everywhere, but I can't find the solution. I don't get to type the password, so maybe the problem is somewhere before my ATV2. I have turned off the firewall in Win 7, without any luck.

Submitted by rmhome on January 3, 2012 - 8:02pm

Did you try logging in through Terminal?

(ssh root@your.atv.ip) Not sure why but this should all be on one line and when i post the comment its not

That might work..... For me however it was opposite. I couldn't log in through Terminal but could through Cyberduck. Are you sure that you are using the right port number (21 i believe)....

This is what worked for me:

- install ATVFlash ($30)
- install Nito
- update openssh

I also had to delete/update RSA key in LinuxMint before beeing able to ssh into ATV2.

Good luck!

Shutdown your AppleTV, unplug the power cable,, wait a couple of seconds, plug again the power, and after you ATV restart, try again to see if BTStack is working.

That worked for me!

Good Luck!
