The ability to remotely watch videos from a NAS or computer when you are away from your home network, (without having to install a helper app or change the configuration on your router), similar to what the Orb app offered before their company was sold.
You're describing Plex Pass (expensive) or AirVideo Server and the App (IOS/Mac only, and cheap and excellent).
Traded some emails with James on this, so will repeat in case other folks want this too. I used iTunes and the file system to organize my media.
I would LOVE Infuse to read iTunes embedded metadata and reflect it accordingly. For movies, ignore the enclosing folder and show the posters/metadata. For TV, I would love for Infuse to read the iTunes metadata and present the episode guide properly. I understand that Infuse looks that the S00E00 format to drive episodic display, but if you want to use one player for everything (torrents, encoded media, etc), it would make a lot of sense to understand that Infuse is pointing to an iTunes Media folder before hand, and then treat the enclosed metadata accordingly. Anything outside of iTunes Media folder gets treated as normal.
Just remember all of those services cost $$$. One of the great things is the cost of Infuse. Not sure I'd want the price raised for that, but that's my 2 cents
+1
Moreover, trustworthiness of reviews is very much in the eye of the beholder. One would also presume that if a movie or TV show is in someone's collection, they must have had an inkling of whether it was any good before they bought it, irrespective of the views of any critic (yes, I know I'm being cheeky).
Triple yes. I have a huge collection, and I prefer all the options Plex has, but I don't like the complexity overall, mind you.
Of course, the paradox is that if all the Plex features that people are requesting were put into Infuse, then it would be just as complex as Plex...and it would look like Plex, so why not just get Plex? Just saying!

I'm a bit confused about what you are asking for here. Don't all Apple TVs already have a way of getting media stored in iTunes through the Computer icon (app) and home sharing? Doesn't that do what you need without having to even use Infuse or another media app? I don't store any video in iTunes so I really don't know how this works. I guess the only thing that I would say in favour of pointing Infuse at TMDB and TVDB is that they are community configurable, so shows can be added by users when these may not exist in iTunes. That said, I'd be happy right now if Firecore could get Infuse's sorting of TV shows right (it's a bit of a mess at the moment) and get it to consistently use the metadata that I have locally stored that ordinarily (in Infuse for the ATV 2) would have overridden the online metadata.
[Update: ignore item 2. Infuse can set passthrough to default: Settings > "Dolby/DTS over HDMI: On"]
Multichannel PCM output when passthrough is not used. When ATV setting is "Surround Sound: Auto" apps like Netflix will correctly send stereo or multichannel PCM to receiver in accord with the video being played, but Infuse always downsamples to stereo.
Make a setting in Infuse so that passthrough is default. Maybe I have misunderstood but it seems I have to enable passthrough for DTS/AC3 every time I play a video.
Harmonize and abide by the tvOS subtitle settings (ATV > Settings > General > Accessibility > Style". Personally I miss in particular to set 'subtitle background opacity' > 0%. tvOS has a very nice design where every particular subtitle property can be set to override the app's own preference.
And last: I am amazed by the quality in design and stability even in the first release. Respect!

There is a setting in both the ATV and Infuse, and I believe both need to be set to on. Failing that, would this post go any way to explaining what might be happening with your setup: https://forum.handbrake.fr/viewtopic.php?f=7&t...
It would be great to be able to edit the poster and title on movies! I'm a french native speaker but I have my metadata set in english but on the few french movies I own, the english title sounds juste weird! Thanks and great job
wishlist
1) replace the first screen with huge title "Infuse" and a list of favorites folder. please display directly a grid of files (like plex or apple music if you like)
2) add a top bar with favorites, folders, settings (again, like apple music or even like atv flash (black).
3) allow folder/files to the sorted by filename.
I found a small bug:
- when a tv show only have one season, parent folder display "season xxx" instead the actual name of show.

To me, Plex has a major disadvantage compared to infuse : subtitles & transcode.
Pretty much everything i watch is english audio & french or english subtitles... i used to use Plex on a PC, but it's (to me) a lot less convenient than an Apple TV... and i can't really use Plex on Apple TV because i would have to put the Plex server on my NAS and it would have to transcode (because of the subtitles) and the NAS wouldn't be powerful enough... so Plex can have some pretty severe limitations depending on what you wanna do with it & Infuse, in some cases, can be a lot more efficient.
Guess its best todo one feature request per post so let me add a 'weird' one that is easy to implement given what you already have. I also feel as a long time use of your products you should aim for features that separate you from the crowd since there will be many of these types of products soon (compared to your aflash product).
Context for my request. Many hometheater/projector users mask/shift for 2.35 content (or from 2.23 to 2.67) down into the 16:9 area. This allows us to when watching 2.35 movies to slide the image down and mask it on the lower border. The result is that for that type of content it follows the eyes should be in the lower 1/3 rule. Now i can do this using the projector or a scaler but it seems you have a good opportunity here to add it since you already zoom and crop. Add a shift function first say 3 options (2.29,2.35,240) and later maybe a manual shift and remember function.
With more and more people having >60" normal screens they can't use lens shift and doubt many have a pro-scaler todo the shifts but their screens are getting so big and SO wants screen above fireplace etc etc adding this to follow the 1/3 rule makes a lot of sense.
Recap : allow the video content to 'shift' down in the 16:9 frame to lower 2.35 content by removing the bottom blackbar (and add it to the top of course).
Now one thing you can do that highend scalers and projectors can't is remember these settings per movie. Settings per movie, folder and share should also be on your list since again its something that is (relatively) easy to implement for you.
Hope this makes sense, if not more than willing to explain more to try to convince you
Here is my list.
Some of them are already mentioned in release lists or 4.0.1, 4.1 and 4.x, but still, always good to share your toughts:
List view
Set sort options per favorite (By date, released, added, title, year, score)
Watched-indicator, directly in sync with Trakt
Show top bar within favorite: All shows/movies, recently added, recently aired, recently watched, by genre, by year
Show/hide watched shows (or episodes in recently added)
Auto change plot and button actions when highlighting and episode
Cache views, I know my shares are reachable, don't want to wait every time I open a favorite (add reload button like Plex)
Movie trailers (add 'Trailer' button when showing movie detail page)
Theme music when inside a TV show collection
Video spec icons (resolution, audio encoding, video encoding, bitrate, subtitles enabled)
Allow multiple languages selected at once for subtitles, I am Dutch, prefer Dutch subtitles, but new episodes only have Engligh for a while, check for both.
Movie collections (Lord of the Rings collection, Hobbit Collection, Harry Potter collection)
Kids mode (only show kid movies/shows, like animation movies)
Show actors in video detail view, when clicking actor, show related movies/shows
H265 support, I'm currenly blocking H265 releases
10 second skip, since the Apple TV was shipped with this, I started to love this feature
Thumbnail while scrubbing (default video behaviour)
Better metadata support, currently to slow and unreliable
Ability to hide sub folders within a show which is not related to a season
Respect parental settings from the default system
Always start with highlighting play button, this is the primary button
Store metadata/library on iCloud for sycing with other devides (optional, I currently have 50GB iCloud space, others don't)
Siri + spotlight search (if ever the API will be public)
Please provide a toggle in settings to enable/disable the option to edit metadata. This prevents inexperienced users from making accidental changes that mess up the library. Advanced users can easily toggle the editing mode on/off as necessary from the settings page. By default the editing mode should be enabled, so first time users won't get confused.
A+ for the possibility to associate a picture to the ugly folders...maybe taking the content of it
and a ++ for the COLLECTIONS, i.e. collections of Series (Houe of Cards...then allowing to browse by season and by episode inside a season) and collections of Movies as Harry Potter, Star Wars...

Just wondering if people know that they can do this themselves? Create and name a movie collection folder (for example, James Bond Collection) inside your movie folder, and move those movies you want to group inside that. Then find a suitable picture that reflects the collection's contents, name it "folder.jpg" and also put it in the collection folder. Of course, this does not work if you use a DLNA/UPnP connection to you storage, but certainly works for SMB.

Did you guys know that you can edit your reactions? Makes it easier for others to read and keeps this thread compact.

Has anyone mentioned a video preview thumbnail for when you're scrolling fast forward or rewinding?
+1, however where would these be rendered? My wife asked for the same feature after playing with Plex

Anybody else agree this is a good idea?
Increase the stroke around subtitle texts, hard to read now with this thin one.
