Is there a native bitstream option so James could implement it in Infuse for viewing native full lossless Atmos content?

Registered developers may not be allowed to post screen shots until it becomes public beta.

This may be true, but if your curious there are quite a few being posted certain mac sites (sorry, not sure rules about posting links other forums)

Not really curious on my part. I grew up in an era where "High Fidelity" came from Wolfman Jack on an AM station on a single speaker powered by a 9 volt battery. Wink

Between that and several years around jets and thus tinnitus makes plain old 5.1 pretty amazing. Wink

Why would there be a rule about that...

Many software companies have non disclosure agreements for their beta testers. It'd surprise me if Apple wasn't one of them.

Edit to add directly from the Apple website:

  Apple Beta Software Program wrote:

Is the public beta software confidential?

Yes, the public beta software is Apple confidential information. Don’t install the public beta software on any systems you don't directly control or that you share with others. Don’t blog, post screen shots, tweet, or publicly post information about the public beta software, and don't discuss the public beta software with or demonstrate it to others who are not in the Apple Beta Software Program. If Apple has publicly disclosed technical information about the public beta software, it is no longer considered confidential.

Note that screen shots are one of the items specifically forbidden to be posted.

Right. But why would Firecore have a rule about linking to another forum?

I'd guess because they wouldn't want their forum used for the transmittal of information that relates to or condones illegal acts.

Just like they don't condone video piracy and don't allow links to that type of content.

And in my past experience some forums don't appreciated linking to other forums of different sites.

I still don’t know if the Atmos feature is bitstream audio or converting everything to lossy Atmos no matter the content (like on the Xbox One X).

We're digging into this now to see what we can find...

PS - links and screenshots are ok. Smile

Infuse 6 for iOS and Apple TV is now available!

Atmos on the ATV4k currently from itunes is bitstreamed. They are using DD+ w/atmos, same as any other streaming service.

I don't know. Movies without atmos are still using PCM.

I think it is indeed. In this case there could be a possibility that Infuse can output lossless Atmos tracks from UHD ISO or BD ISO in it’s ful glory if I’m saying it correctly.

Bitstreaming Atmos is a given since an external processor has to do the heavy lifting.

What we're waiting to find out is if the APIs for audio on tvOS12 allow an app to bitstream encoded data. It's useful for gaming to pass Dolby Atmos to an external receiver/pre-pro as well as apps like Infuse for ripped movies.

Why does it take that long to find out? Does the Infuse guys have to write all new code with the new API? It’s not just to add the API and see how it works?

I dont know anything about coding for Apple so pardon me if it’s stupid question Tongue

The API for Atmos might not be available to third party developers at all. It could be limited to the iTunes store and certain cherry picked apps (Netflix etc.) for all we know.

That's what the Infuse team has to find... if they can even support Atmos in the first place.

For what it's worth, utilizing tvOS 12 beta 2 and Infuse Pro, my receiver does indicate Dolby Atmos when watching a TrueHD 7.1/Atmos movie. When playing the same movie on Plex using the nvidia Shield, it indicates Dolby Atmos-TrueHD 7.1. I'm not sure why it displays differently or if it means anything...

In Infuse, when setting audio output to "Passthrough", I get no audio, though when it is set to "Auto" I do get audio indicating Atmos - the audio has a delay when starting (several seconds after the video starts), but is in synch. Hope this info helps someone.

All I get is 'An error occurred loading this content" or something similar. (Code Q0VA4 if @james cares about tvOS 12 this early in release)

I was tempted to sign up as a dev, but I decided it's not worth $99/yr just to get early access to Atmos. Smile I'd rather spend that on Atmos movies!

But I can't wait!!! I have tried 49 UHD movies all ripped to Plex, but anything with Atmos I still stick in the UHD BD player. I suppose this will still be true of dts:X movies even when I can play Atmos using Infuse Pro.

If I understand correctly you are able under certain settings play local content and your receiver reports Atmos audio using plex addon in infuse?

If so, can you play the same local content directly in Infuse and have your receiver report Atmos audio?

Not sure if current Infuse has ability to export Atmos by passthrough bitstream or not, suppose Infuse should leverage tvOS API to do that, if it is correct.
