They've uploaded some new documentation here which references DD+ based Atmos. No mention of TrueHD, but seems this guide is specifically for streaming/VOD services so makes sense: https://developer.apple.com/documentation/http...
Btw. I am also pretty sure any atmos we are getting likely unintentional. My guess is Companies like Vudu and certain studios are not providing Apple specific 4K encodes. Odds are most movies, they had atmos, probably already have the metadata in the encode.
Since the Apple TV defaults to selecting the best audio supported by local hardware, atmos is now activating in some cases. I would guess that an app like Vudu is just serving up data and the Apple TV takes of determining best picture / audio settings from what is offered. Since atmos is not an option, it is selectable. That said it is by no means optimized at this point.
Well, once Apple added the Atmos playback option, they would likely enable a title or two in their catalog for testing...
Has anyone been able to stream Atmos from any third party tvOS streaming service? I looked on Netflix, but could not fine any... I don't expect it, but curious...

Yep, Vudu streams Dolby Atmos (lossy DD+). Netflix support should come quite soon I'd imagine.
Netflix has some sort of exclusivity agreement. Currently they only support atmos on 2017+ LG TVs and Xbox. Despite there being plenty of other devices that support atmos.

Yes. Vudu is already working with Atmos, but of course on ATV4K about 1/3rd of DV/HDR titles are just plain 4K and it will be a long slog as Vudu has to correct the files they serve or something like that.
I tried it extensively with Infuse and it was a cranky butt on my system (which can only handle DD5.1). I'm fine if I have Infuse on Auto (not passthrough) and put the ATV4K settings on DD5.1 (its a little different menu). Fine in that I still get DD5.1 and Infuse works.
The fun for me and my soundbar begins when I do passthrough and Atmos. Now mind you my Samsung K950 Soundbar only accepts DD5.1, DD+, or plain DTS and my Xbox One S hdmi input won't even accept DTS (Xbox uses Dolby Access to upmix everything to Atmos which my Atmos soundbar loves). No LPCM either for both devices except maybe stereo.
So what happened when hooked to input of Xbox and using HDFury splitter? DTSHD tracks get crackling static and Atmos tracks blew up Infuse getting an error.
Now going direct to my soundbar (and I need to try that with Xbox) was much more interesting. My soundbar will pass HDR which is fine for Infuse. So again DTSHD was a crackling no go. Atmos however was a mixed bag. I still fought a lot of errors, but sometimes if I left subtitles on and it started up on a dd5.1 track I could then switch to Atmos track. It might bomb then, but I could then start it up again into the video some and it would play! This only worked on a few files and most failed. Now what was interesting is that I actually got sound. Conclusions for this sound with my Soundbar:
1. It was not Atmos as my Atmos blue light did not come on like with Vudu
2. However since it was passthrough it must have been dolby truehd!!!!! My soundbar will accept that, but not LPCM. It had an extra richness which makes me strongly believe it was indeed the truehd core!
I'll fiddle with it some more, but when I used an Oppo 203 to split it showed LPCM 7.1 which my bar won't accept. I have an HDFury AVR Key and it might shed some light and I'll try to screen capture its interface if i can get it to split video and audio with the above working scenario.
Baby steps, but good chance that right out of the gate Dolby TrueHD can be passed if Infuse finds everything to its liking.

LG OLED65E7P or OLED65E7P?
I was tempted to sign up as a dev, but I decided it's not worth $99/yr just to get early access to Atmos. I'd rather spend that on Atmos movies!
But I can't wait!!! I have tried 49 UHD movies all ripped to Plex, but anything with Atmos I still stick in the UHD BD player. I suppose this will still be true of dts:X movies even when I can play Atmos using Infuse Pro.
My understanding is you need to pay if you have Kodi sideloading, Popcorn, etc. (I'm just parroting as I've done no ATV4K sideloading). I have a link in the post above where anyone can try the Atmos now. Of course once you move to this version you can't go back to an earlier version. I have things setup normally for DD5.1 output and that still works. For those using other audio settings playing with the beta may not be a great idea......

Odd, because Jumanji and Mad Max don’t play for me in Atmos...the difference may be those are code redemptions (among many I have) from purchasing the UHD - though they did otherwise redeem as 4k HDR or DV where permitted by the studio.
Blade Runner 2049 is also a UHD redemption code for me, and DOES play in Atmos...strange...

waiting on how these atmos changes develop,b4 finally buying my first ever apple product
silly question time
Has anyone tried this new beta yet for playing 4k remux/4k complete disc via dlna/usb from HDD
And DV /full Atmos and also DTS-X(which isnt the intended update, but still curious)
seeing lots of comments for those trying streaming, for the Atmos, but if Apple can nail the DLNA side of things, theyll increase market hugely :)(and main area im interested in ATM

DLNA is dead (it dissolved as a non-profit at the very beginning of 2017) and I would suggest finding something else to replace it if you still use it. As such, I would highly doubt Apple is going to pick it up at this point, but apps like Infuse and Plex still support it. I stream from my NAS with NFS and Plex, but no, there's no full Atmos (with TrueHD) or DTS:X supported in any app (yet...).

Is there a way to get into a beta program with Infuse? I’m a subscriber and am on the tvOS12 beta and have a DV and Atmos setup, so I’d be perfect for it.
Yes, I have enrolled the beta program, but the 'get beta update' option still not show up.
I noticed the 'get beta update' option show up when the apple tv 4k go offline.
It would seem that most of my 4k movies will not play on TVOS12 public beta. They start an just come back with "error loading content" Disabling Atmos on the ATV fixes the issue. Hopefully Infuse release a fix soon (im also on their beta program)
I watched the video and despite me having updated tot he TVos 12 i cannot see the same settings as in the video, i dont have the option to choose the atmos sound in "Surround Sound" tab. is there anything i am doing wrong? i have a ATV4 not the 4K

ta
DLNA was used just as a blanket term for grabbing the files off a HDD
Maybe "streaming" is the term you're looking for?
•Just Another Infuse User• •Not An Employee Of Firecore• •Certified Curmudgeon•
cept streaming is more relevant to files supplied by apple, over the internet services
pretty moot ,since the term was OBVIOUSLY recognised for what i inteded
That's exactly what Infuse does, so yeah, people are testing it. That's what we're all in this thread waiting for find out. lol
hence my Subtle hints
id test myself,if id ever actually purchased a single Apple item in the last 54 yrs
This may break the cycle,if its implemented correctly

Better dig fast as the public beta just dropped, and the masses will be installing, lol.
Watching right now Atomic Blonde in DTS-HD 7.1 and the soundbar is outputting in Dolby Atmos.
The first public beta with Dolby Atmos support is out!
Here is hoping that Infuse can let my AVR bitstream uncompressed Atmos from my UHD ISO rips.
Is it lpaying with infuse? Most of us here do get "Atmos" displayed but no sound is emitted.

I have apple tv 4k but I cannot see the option for "Get Beta Updates".
Would you know the problem?
Thanks.
Did you sign up for the beta program?

Maybe have to restart Apple TV afterwards.

Ah, weird.
To me everything works except DD 5.1. DTS is ok but engage Atmos one the bar.
I tried the same movies in Vudu, there are lots more playing with Dolby Atmos. Apple may upgrade the movies in Itunes when they release tvos 12.
