Today we have a hot and fresh new beta version of Seas0nPass for your testing pleasure.

What's new in version 0.9.2?

  1. Added ability to extract iFaith signatures from an ATV2.
  2. Added ability to use those extracted signatures to restore an ATV2.

What are iFaith signatures?

iFaith signatures are useful since they are based on whatever version the Apple TV is CURRENTLY running, allowing you to re-install or jailbreak that version even if it is no longer being signed.

Saving iFaith firmware signatures (Mac)

  1. Connect Apple TV via USB
  2. Launch Seas0nPass
  3. Click the 'Help' menu and select the 'Dump iFaith Device blob...' item.
  4. Follow the prompts provided by Seas0nPass

Saving iFaith firmware signatures (PC)

  1. Connect Apple TV via USB
  2. Launch Seas0nPass
  3. Right-click the 'Create IPSW' button and and select the 'Save firmware signatures...' item.
  4. Follow the prompts provided by Seas0nPass

Restoring with iFaith (or other) saved signatures

  1. Connect Apple TV via USB
  2. Launch Seas0nPass
  3. Right-click the 'Create IPSW' button and select your desired version.
  4. Seas0nPass will handle fetching saved signatures and restoring the firmware automatically.

Any chance of testing this on Windows? What is the ETA for the 0.9.2 beta Windows build?

The Windows version will likely be ready next week.

Hmm. Not sure what's going on there, but your best option may be to wait for the new version of Seas0nPass for Windows.

Hi James et al,

The new Beta worked perfectly, first time; I'd been struggling, but I think the downgrade to 5.2.1 did the trick!

Smile

Cheers,

M.

You must try, and try, and try, and try... until the whole sequence runs AUTOMATICALLY till the end...

I succeded after several hours and i think i tried almost a hundred of times.

Finally the iFaith gave me the blobs!!!!

Alternatively you can wait for the seasonpass windows version... maybe it could works at the first time.

Thanks ultrapop. I will try a few more time using iFaith. Seasonpass probably will not work for me because this particular ATV2 I have is still on 4.0 (virgin). The newer seasonpass starts with 4.2.1 or 4.1? Anyway I bought it from an auction site, the previous owner probably never used it or just never bother to update it. I have other ATV2s jailbroken, so this is more like a learning unit for me. :P

I unfortunately updated to 5.2.1 and do not have any blobs saved.

Can anyone please tell me how to downgrade? I know that iClarified has a whole list of ipsw.

Can Seas0npass 0.9.2 downgade the firmware for me if i downloaded an ipsw from iClarified?

Can someone please give me step by step instructions on it? Very badly want to downgrade. Any assistance will be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

If you have no saved blobs then you cannot downgrade.

If this is currently for Mac only.
How would I use iFaith (PC) only.
iFaith Blobs.
I'm just looking for clarity.
Thanks

Interesting and frustrating as heck on how iFaith signatures are extractable with an OSX platform tool like this and the author of iFaith can't seem to get his crap together to produce an OSX version of his tool.

I'm not dissin anyone, just frustrated after spending tens of hours using iFaith on windoze to finally have iFaith puke up blobs.

Good work here folks, glad to see progress on this. I'll give it a go on my newer ATV when you're out of beta.

Cheers,

Skydog

Sounds like a bug for slow PCs. Check your PM for an alternative build.

Hi guys just after some quick advice. If i purchased a atv 2 running 5.2 or less would i be able to get an untethered jb using this method or would i automatically be updated to 5.2.1? Any advice would be much appreciated as im only a novice but will give anything a try.
Cheers

The whole idea of this method is to get the shsh blobs for the version of firmware that is currently installed so you can jailbreak that release.

As long as the installed release is one for which there is an untethered jailbreak you will therefore be able to jailbreak it to that release using this new method.

If it is one for which there is no jailbreak, or for which the jailbreak is tethered then your only sensible course of action would be to  upgrade to 5.2.1 and the tethered jailbreak.

Just purchased one running 5.2 so will see how i go. I have an atv 2 already which was at 5.2.1 when i purchased it, which im using the tethered jb on. There's no possible way to downgrade that without having saved shh blobs is there? Anyway thanks for the reply, much appreciated

Kind of. TinyUmbrella fetches the blobs only for the firmwares Apple is actively signing. iFaith can do this too but the actual part its known for is dumping. Concept is basically you bought a new iDevice and it got shipped with a firmware Apple is no longer signing or just forgot to grab them directly from Apple. With this, you can dump whatever blobs/apticket is on the device and be able to re-restore/downgrade in the future.

Not really. TU uses full blobs (SHSH blobs obtained when Apple is still signing) and iFaith can dump partial blobs (SHSH blobs from the firmware that is installed regardless if Apple is signing or not).

TU is mainly for people with saved blobs who wishes to install older firmwares after Apple closes the signing window. It does it by 'fooling' iTunes thinking it's legit. TU is not often used on jailbreaking ATV2s because seasonpass can do the same thing by getting blobs from Cydia servers.

iFaith however, does it differently. It can dump blobs (aka partial blobs) from the version that's currently installed even if Apple closes the signing window. Partial blobs, however, needs to be stitched to an IPSW and requires you to go into pwned DFU mode before running iTunes.
