HEVC playback issues on Infuse 5 & Apple TV 4

I experience severe stuttering and dropped frames when playing back HEVC encoded files on Infuse 5 and Apple TV A4. It is less extreme than Infuse 4, but still not watchable. Is playback of HEVC supported?

The same files work fine on iPad/iPhone v5, however the same issue occurs if I try and airplay to the Apple TV.

I did a support mail, I have the same problem, on iPad iPhone everything works without a problem, on the apple tv it works not good, but if you use abc player, it works like a charm, no problem at all, but abc player has only a file browser and not a nice movie info system like infuse. They gonna check the difference in playback and infuse to fix the problem, if they can. So we must wait and see what happens.

Infuse does not support x265 codec for the moment.

Yes it does, only on the iOS version of the iPad air, iphone 6s, without a problem, why not on the apple tv (TV Os) with same specs.

Yes would also ne interested why ist is stuttering…

Not so cool, that we dont get an Feedback from infuse…

Maybe you could provide a bit more info on what issue you’re having. It seems that not everyone is having issues with HEVC encoded files and different people are having different issues. I have many 720p x265 files that play flawlessly and even several 1080p x265 files that also play error free.

I’m not a software guru but I’m sure that providing details on exactly what type of encoding is causing you personally to have issues would go a long way in helping the people that DO have the skills in narrowing down the problem.

I have the latest update installed and videos are 1080p encoded to H265 using the latest handbrake release on macOS to Mkv with Dolby digital encoding (not pass through). The same file plays just fine on my iPad Pro (again latest os and app). On AppleTV there are so many skipped frames it’s like watching a slideshow, but audio is usually fine. Please let me know what other information I can provide.

download abc player https://itunes.apple.com/nl/app/abc-player/id1073341737?mt=8 this will playback hevc files.
i’ll ask on firecore why infuse can’t do this, they will check, no answer yet. but my conclusion is that apple tv can do the job with the right player, and this is not infuse.

Tested several HEVC movies with 1080p x265, but when fast movement and camera switches occur e.g. in action movies everything is stuttering. Thinking about ditching my apple TV and going back to an HTPC with kodi, because there its not a problem…

And again, there are so many variables that can come into play with a “1080p x265” file that it’d still be a help to provide more detailed info like the output of “mediainfo” which is a free program that outputs a detailed report on video files including stream rates, compression application used, and tons of other file specific info. Feel free to edit out personal info such as file name, directory info etc., but leave the technical voodoo intact.

It’s all alien to me but it’s what has been asked for in the past when trying to narrow down a problem.

I know it gets frustrating but when it’s not a solid problem that affects all users it gets to be a real search to find a “sometimes” cause.

I’m just trying to help get all the info together to make it more readily approached by the folks that can look into this instead of some of the problems that are so vague that there’s no clue as to what is really happening.

No worries, im happy to help out solving the problem. I just didnt saw any action regarding this problem, thats why i started the discussion again.

Here is a example of a file which is not playing correctly:

Actually just checked my encode and it is working fine! I will try another and see if I get an issue.
