I have been sitting on the fence waiting for a version of Infuse that is compatible with DLNA Smart TV (meaning TVs that don’t need Googlecast or AppleTV to get casted on).

Does Infuse playback to DLNA Smart TVs directly already?

Not at this time, but it's something we hope to look into for a future update.

Any luck for version 6? I have literally stopped using Infuse and only get reminded of that app because of the updates email.

This isn't available in Infuse 6, but may be something we look at for the future.

For those interested, I'd recommend following and/or upvoting this thread in the suggestions area.
