i never got this message, not even 10 mins ago when i restored mine to stock 4.0. where did you get your ipsw file from? was it from apple, or did you find it somewhere on the internet? mine was directly from apple a couple weeks ago when i jailbroke for the first time. maybe you file is bad.

i have an idea, but i need a volunteer. i will email someone MY copy of the 4.0 firmware and walk you through the JB process with that.

my device in JBed, with firecores package installed.

Any takers?

Unfortuantely if you've updated your AppleTV to 4.1 (iOS 4.2.1) you won't be able to go back to 4.0 - you will get the 'this AppleTV is not elgible for this version' message.

The only exception to this is if you backed up your 'SHSH blobs' before upgrading.

We're planning to have a 4.1 compatible version soon. Sorry for the confusion.

Hmm ok - you may do a quick double check to ensure the AppleTV didn't auto-update itself. Settings --> General --> About.

When I purchased atv this Monday it was showing me 4.1 version and after trying Jail breaking atv yesterday then after it is showing me 4.0 version. Is it possbile? Currently, I can see my atv is on 4.0 version.I have 4.0 version on my atv 2g. And I can't able to jailbreak. I am getting same error message. I will be very happy if you can share the file with all.

hmmmm so you bought your with 4.1 (from the settings menu on the atv) on the device? and you somehow got it to "install" 4.0? i believe what you are saying, but i think that is why you cant jailbreak the 4.0 software, and put it on your atv.

REMEMBER ALL!!!!

if your aTV says 4.0, it is actually 4.1 ipsw

if your aTV says 4.1, it is actually 4.2.1 ipsw

^ mod, you should sticky that info...

also, it is not necessarily that FireCore is not compatible with iOS 4.2.1 (tho it may not be), the biggest hurdle is that iOS 4.2.1 is not tether-ably jailbrokable yet. that is the main issue people are having, they cant JB the device.

I HAVE NOT upgraded to 4.1....still running 4.0.....it will not load the custom FW when following the instructions provided by Firecore.

You are right on both counts. Both need an update to be compatible with 4.1 (iOS 4.2.1).

did you use their file to build your custom FW? navigate in finder to library>itunes>appletv software update, is there a file in here (that you did not put in there)? if so, what is it?

no offense james, but i dont think you guys were anticipating the JB scene to be like this huh? its not quite like the atv1, where you just flash the HD with your software.... apple have been fighting with us for years, and they are smart, but the Dev team is smarter.
