I get to the end of the install but get the error from iTunes:

The Apple TV "Apple TV" could not be restored, because the file with the software is not compatible

Although Seas0nPass actually says it was successful?

Any ideas? This is my log from an Apple MacBook Pro, 10.6.8

I am having a similar issues. Seas0nPass runs, creates a IPSW, runs the iTunes script, but when the custom IPSW is selected iTunes says the software isn't compatable. I even located Seas0nPass' custom IPSW, in iTunes pressed option, clicked the custom IPSW, and got the same message of software is t compatable.

Any ideas?

I solved my 1604 errors this way.  Basically the instructions for Seas0nPass are terrible - it is totally unclear that iTunes NEEDS to be open BEFORE running seas0nPass

1) connect ATV2 by USB (no power cable) and put in DFU mode with remote

2) open iTunes to be sure your are in DFU and leave it open

3) open Seas0nPass and start the IPSW create process

4) Seas0nPass should create the files and run a script to drive iTunes to do the restore

If you manually do a restore in my experience IT WILL FAIL EVERYTIME

I finally got mine working. I had been trying the jailbreak on a couple of different MacBook Pro's with no success. I tried on a PC and still encountered the same problem. Was about to give up when it finally worked?!?!?

Have no idea how or why though (Sorry that doesn't help)

I would always get the Seas0nPass success screen but iTunes would give me the error screen at the end.

When I had successfully done the jailbreak, I used Seas0nPass to revert my iOS 5.2 back to 5.02 then install NivoTV and XBMC, then all the cool add ons. Icefilms, SportsDevil etc etc

Keep plugging away, try everything!

Okay - I have been using SeasonPass and ATV Flash for 3 or 4 years. Started with the original ATV. Anyway, I have had issues now and then but always overcome them. This is no exception. I have 2 ATV2's. The first one updated without a flaw but the second one kept getting the 1600 or 1602 error. I tried everything. It would restore to the apple version but would not restore the ipsw seasonpass created. I noticed the restore was checking the Apple servers and figured it was basically denying it so I disconnected from the network - no go - I than remembered sometime I have to change the DNS when I do a IOS update so I pointed it at 8.8.8.8 (google). I ran Seasonpass again and BINGO it worked. Now, was it the change - Don't know - I ran the updates 20x at least. Was it just the 21st time was lucky.. Got me - Try to change the DNS - might work for you

I was having some trouble with Hulu Plus on my ATV2, which had not been updated since the 5.0.2 jailbreak sometime last year.  So as part of troubleshooting that I had to update to the latest ATV software, which of course meant running Seas0nPass again.  Generating the IPSW and getting the ATV into DFU mode was no trouble at all, but iTunes would not ever run the restore as it is supposed to do automatically according to the instructions I have seen.  I re-read a bunch of posts and someone mentioned option-clicking the restore button in iTunes which took me to a folder with both the new and old IPSW files on my mac.  I selected the new one and it ran OK.  iTunes gave me the "success" window, but Seas0nPass did not.  I just unplugged the ATV and it seems to be working fine, even fixed my Hulu Plus issues.

I am guessing that because there were two IPSW files that the script didn't know what to do and was getting hung up on that?  So if you are having a similar issue maybe try doing the option-click on the restore button in iTunes after the patched IPSW file has been created.

I would try doing the entire install from a different machine. When you get weird bugs or error messages I think it's a software conflict. Worth a pop on another Mac or PC!

I have the same problem here.

First I was running a perfect jailbreak version. then I wanted to get bluetooth so I tried many ways to upgrade using SeasonPass but no luck (same error).

I did upgrade the lastest from Apple (5.2.1).. no jailbreak on that one, then it took me some times to finally manage to restore back to what I had before.

After some digging, could it be possible that Apple just dont sing anything older than 5.2.1 right now?

I've got the same error as others.

The Apple TV "Apple TV" could not be restored, because the file with the software is not compatible

I've tried everything (iTunes loaded before S0P, not loaded, etc.)

Please have a look at this issue!

Hello,

I am getting an error saying that my Firmware is not compatible. My computer is brand new (MacBook Retina 13") so not sure what the right corrective action is here. Can anyone help?

I can't get Seas0npass to upgrade to 5.2 either, and as I have understood, Apple not signing anything older than the current one is the problem. So the only possible solution I can think of is to use tethered jailbreak for 5.2.1 (Mac only), or to wait until untethered jailbreak for 5.2.1 is released. Which will hopefully come before Apple releases 5.2.2.

It has nothing to do with your Mac. You'll have to download the 5.2.1 beta for Mac only Seas0npass and then do the tethered jailbreak.

This forum will help you http://forum.firecore.com/topic/10239  I followed all the instructions/read all the tips from users and was able to jailbreak my ATV2 5.2.1 yesterday i.e. April 2 , 2013. Good Luck !

Just tried with the new version of seas0npass. I get an -1 error in itune restore. Also, in order to get there I had to do the following because seas0npass would stop :
Go to C:\Users\"your user name"\AppData\Local\Temp\Seas0nPass\UNZIPPED_ORIGINAL\Firmware\all_flash\all_flash.k66ap.production and rename the applelogo file to applelogo-1280x720.s5l8930x.img3 and the recovery file to recoverymode-1280x720.s5l8930x.img3 as the software install process is happenning. You will find that everything completes correctly and the install of the firmware to the apple tv will start.

When I try to restore the AppleTV to its factory settings it is done with no problems... Any hints please?
Also, if I have to do a thethered installation, and it says to connect the HDMI cable, do I need to connect that to my TV or to my PC?

Also, if I have to do a thethered installation, and it says to connect the HDMI cable, do I need to connect that to my TV or to my PC?

To your TV!   At this point the ATV has finished booting and is ready to be used like normal.

This is why the ATV needs to be near your TV while doing the tethered boot stage as you cannot now remove power without having to repeat the tethered boot stage.

after many attempts at jailbreaking my 2 apple tv2s i finally was able to restore both of them today via latest season pass on 5.0.2

not sure why that is, could only manage a tethered boot up to last week with no luck on mac..... but used windows laptop and bingo untethered 5.0.2 with firecore logo

very happy chappie... thought i was going to have to wait for new untethered jailbreak

Where the lights are flashing fast. iTunes see the Apple TV and wants todo a restore. But I can't get it to do it. Also if I try to use season pass. It works until iTunes does a check then a1600 error pops up. Can anyone help me please.

Check for hardware issues

  1. Check that your security software and settings aren't preventing your device from communicating with the Apple update server.
  2. Then try to restore your iOS device two more times while connected with a cable, computer, and network you know are good.
  3. Confirm that your security software and settings are allowing communication between your device and update servers.
  4. If you still see the error message when you update or restore, contact Apple support.
