I dont mind either option except that I'd want to reorder the icons. I'm UK based so the NHL, NBA and MLB buttons are completely useless yet higher up than stuff I do use. So my main hope is that buttons can be removed by switching them off.

Number 1 - but hoping there is a 'Classic' option available - I kind of like things the way they are now, personally.  Less is more I guess for me.

'Im also in favor of option 2, #1 destroys the clean Apple-UI look, and could make future implemantations harder to code, as others have mentioned.

BUT!!!, maybe even better yet. What about putting Mediaplayer, "shares" and setting under the "Computers" section, wouldn't that get the benefit of having only five icons across the top, still having the content in the "rescent"-shelf, and with NO extra press on the remote, because you don't make a new top-level choice ?

Option 1 would do it for me better. ATV Flash should always be in the top row ;-).

For me, less is definately more, I hate clutter and currently hide most of my menus.

If 2 is quicker, give us that first, then option 1 when you have that done but then make all of them options so 2, 1 and current classic. Its then up to the end user which of the 3 GUI's they want. Smile

Thanks for the help!

I like both.  Personally I don't use top shelf with the media player.  However, if you implement option 1b with the bar at the top to switch between folders, please could you make it so that if you are browsing the media files below, pushing "menu" to take you back a step highlights the folder selection bar (movies, shared, my files, settings) rather than it going back to the main screen or having to scroll up through loads of files to reach the menu.

Thanks for all the hard work.

It would be really nice if you could hide tiles/apps/channels that you don't or can't use.

i vote for #1 -> looks "GEIL"

But if it delays a release significantly (more than one week or so) then do #2 now and #1 later.

As always many thanks for FireCore's truly awesome efforts..

I'm with alexanderk.83855.

I paid for Atv Flash a few days and still can't use it which is mildly irritating.  I had no idea prior to purchase that I would not be able to use it immediately.  Have tried all the suggestions on various posts but ony managed to get one ATV in the household to jailbreak.

Will seas0npass be updated before or after release of your next ATVFlash upgrade?

Option 1. I like it but what I'd love to see is:

https://skydrive.live.com/redir.aspx?cid=c3a24c4348e54ea1&resid=C3A24C43...

remove computers icon

move settings icon to last position

move photo stream icon to top row position 4

incorporate iTunes friendly home shared content under movies, TV shows, photos and music as appropriate

(WTF doesn't it do this out of the box? is this achievable now?)

add media icon in top row position 5

Don't know how achievable this is though.

Once you've got that, if we can run iPad retina-capable apps on it and control them with remote HD
then you're really on to something.

Option 2. I see no reason to mess up Apples user interface. If Apple make changes to it again in another update i believe its best to just try to follow their standard design.

Count me in for option 2. Odd numbers always look better. I guess like most people I use the ATV functionality in addition to the stock functionality and would love if it could be as close to Apple UI intentions as possible.

Option two looks good if it will be possible to add background through some sort of plug-in else it will just look empty with just the icons. I go with Option 2 cause I can see all the icons on the screen without the distraction of the dashboard.

Although both of these look OK in an eye-candy sort of way, I quite like the text sub-menus. For example, I have folders called "TV" and "Movies" on my NAS and have them as links under "Media" on the homepage.

Would it be possible to add these to the homepage as separate items when everything is icon driven? Probably not easily and they will now be an extra click away.

I can see the reason for the change if the new system opens the door for an Apple TV App Store, otherwise it has just added another layer of complexity to the navigation.

For me I'd be using it to watch media off my NAS. So option 1 would be the most appealing experience for doing that. It would give it a more integrated experience.

I would prefer option 2,  because I like the idea of the apple design staying consistent as well as the fact that I would still have to go to the lower menus to access the things I use most anyway (XBMC)

I wonder if you are also thinking about providing us options for "classic" menu or other non 5.0 UI options. That may be a big attraction to those who are not liking the new UI (hint hint)

Thanks for all your work and my ATV3 is on the way, so here's to hoping the jailbreak comes out soon so I can install on the new device.

Definitely Option 1. In the long run, it will be better. Accessing the media is what Firecore is about! I can wait for a better interface.
