The reason I am on the hunt for something is that my dad wants one. He wants to watch football mainly. So if I got him an ATV 1 it would work great. He doesn't need mirroring or anything flash so ATV 1 would work great?

Thanks for your help

would work even better than atv2.

I run 1080p raw blueray on my atv1 with no issues (with crystal installed).

Mirroring/Airplay works as soon you install Remote HD.

XBMC with live channels runs with no issues.

I have 3 atv1 , and bought upgrade 3 atv2. Sold all atv2 as it is not better .

Now bought 3 atv3, waiting for miracle....  still have atv1

So .... it will work just gr8!

crystalbuntu is linux software .... Crystal HD is broadcom's hardware.

So I suspect you have linux version software installed and set to boot to xbmc not to Frontrow.

If you have Crystal HD card installed , so it goes to slot instead of wifi, that means you loose wireless for 1080p.

Sorry missed that part.

Did you try booting the ATVflash USB again? Not sure if it will overwrite the settings you messed up.

I read this http://iluvatv.wordpress.com/2010/10/06/boot-d... but you want to switch it back to frontrow so this might not help

Still looking for how to change it back

Found this for what it's worth http://scottforbes.net/2010/02/27/appletv-how-to-force-a-factory-restore-via-ssh/

You will lose SSH if it doesn't work though. So until somone can confirm it works just hold off.

I might try this when I get home and report back.

Did you try the Down Down OK to get the diagnostic menu he talks about?

I added atv Flash to my ATV1 the other day. You need to make a "patchstick" and then all seems to work. The one i used is here

http://code.google.com/p/atvusb-creator/

Hope this helps, this creates the patch stick, also supplies instructions. You can then install atv flash if you want.

OK so for it to read the usb hdd or stick , it needs to be re formatted for apple ??

any reason why XBMC has issues finding shared folders on network or is it a Windows 7 issue that it doesnt like it ?

Maybe I should just try to FTP into the hdd to store movies / TV series

1.HDD should be fat, fat32 , hfs, hfs+ format.  NTFS will not work .

2.Make sure you have shared your folders on win7 pc and it has  sharing  enabled. Check workgroup and etc.

  1. ftp://frontrow:frontrow@appletv.local and save your videos in MOVIES folder.
