Is this true? And please I have no idea how to use this link to actually install the software given the post below. Any help?

I have also installed xbmc on my Mac. Is there additional set up I also need to do on the Mac for xbmc to work on appletv?

Thanks in advance.

We decided to give you this Eden build here in the forum. We do an update for cydia when 11.1 is released for all platforms. Beside that the nightlys (once they start again) will be compatible with iOS5.1 too.

Unfortunatly the 5.1 JB hit us a bit too late and iOS5.1 changed too much for beeing compatible with it with the cydia Eden version we release a couple of weeks ago.

ATV2-Eden-iOS5.1 compatible

Installation via ssh:

Code:
wget http://dl.dropbox.com/u/30371861/org.xbmc.xbmc...
dpkg -i org.xbmc.xbmc-atv2_11.0-1_iphoneos-arm.deb
rm org.xbmc.xbmc-atv2_11.0-1_iphoneos-arm.deb

Does anyone have another link for this install as the dropbox link posted is currently over bandwidth?

For those who don't know how to do this:

1) Get an SSH client such as PuTTy

2) Set username as root@YOUR.ATV2.IP.ADDRESS (you will have to get your IP address it has for your router such as 192.168.1.5

3)You will be asked for a password: default password is alpine

4) Paste (Right click)  each line of code individually and run each one separately by hitting enter after paste

apt-get updatemkdir -p /Applications/AppleTV.app/Appliancesapt-get install org.xbmc.xbmc-atv2mkdir -p /Applications/XBMC.frappliancewget http://dl.dropbox.com/u/14341410/org.xbmc.xbmc... -i org.xbmc.xbmc-atv2_11.0-2_iphoneos-arm.debrm org.xbmc.xbmc-atv2_11.0-2_iphoneos-arm.deb

It will take a little while as it has to download and install XBMC twice (once for original version and once for update)

Thank you so much for the detailed instructions.

One question, does the native Terminal app that comes on a Mac work or do I need Putty?

Open terminal and ssh to your apple tv by typing: ssh root@

Where is the IP address of your apple tv (found by going into the network settings on the apple tv).

After that, process is the same as above.

Was able to install XBMC. Much thanks.

I hear IceFilms is a must. I don't see it as available to install via XBMC.

Any instructions on this?

(wouldn't have made it nearly this far without everyone's help. So cool, Thank you.)

There's a directory you'll need to make to get around that error. Also, they released an updated version today. Here is the new Install steps:

apt-get update
mkdir -p /Applications/AppleTV.app/Appliances
apt-get install org.xbmc.xbmc-atv2
mkdir -p /Applications/XBMC.frappliance
wget http://dl.dropbox.com/u/14341410/org.xbmc.xbmc...
dpkg -i org.xbmc.xbmc-atv2_11.0-3_iphoneos-arm.deb
rm org.xbmc.xbmc-atv2_11.0-3_iphoneos-arm.deb
