What si the reason?

Do you have any?

I reckon the reason is that there is no news, just bla bla bla  about blabla.

Latest info is here.

I, not an employee of fireCore, closed the threads because everyone kept asking the same question without reading the thread.

No one has any further details as to when rather if the Apple TV 3 will be jailbroken. I will be the first person to agree that the statement on the aTV Flash (black) page is misleading however a little research will show that there isn't a jailbreak yet.

When they say "Apple TV 3 update in the works! Order now and get access to both versions." they mean that the software (Maintenance menu, Couch Surfer and the like) have been updated to work on iOS 5.

In which case can "They" be asked politely to update the message to reflect this, i.e.; When the ATV3 is JB'd there will be a version of aTV Flash for it, but at present there is no ETA on when this will be.

I'm fairly sure they would give a refund to people who purchased it thinking it would JB the ATV3 and found it could not.

I bought it because I thought that the Firecore software worked on ATV3.

I wrote them afterwards and got a full refund. Thanks!

I'll definately rebuy when the ATV3 is jailbroken.

Hi Guys this is my first post so I'm a bit of a newbie and don't shoot me just yet. I know there is no jailbreal for atv3 yet but I've been fooling around

with my atv3 just to see where I might get with it. I've managed to ssh to it and can see the usual var/mobile etc. I 'm wondering if it might be possible to drop some files to enable me to fire up nito or xbmc etc. Sorry in advance if I cause annoyance with this query

I highly doubt that.

Im not sure exactly what you mean by that reply but to recap this is what I did. Connected atv3 to pc and ran Itunes and as soon as it recognised atv3 I started up Cyberduck and sshd to atv3. As I said I  can see private /var etc . I am a newbie and don't know what if anything I can do after that but it seems to me that if I can get that far it might just be possible to ssh some files in. any replies appreciated

Thanks. I used Cyberduck entered my ip and user name and password and then a box comes up to allow or deny whatever it is I want. I'm in at this stage but as I said don't know if I can try anything. Since I was in the root area I tried to atv black flash it but flash says its not jailbroken. Then I tried to apt get update and nito tv but no luck. I could see command lines working ok but when I reconnected to tv nothing new there. I'm not a techie as such and so not used to terms that are everyday use to you guys . Hope my answer is some help.

Thanks but as I said I think that as I've gotten that far it might just be possible to drop some files into it and as I'm not well versed in this I figured you guys may be able to advise.

Exactly. There is no ssh server running on the atv. No way you could ever login on it, never.

He was not joking if you use cuberduck and bonjour it finds the open port for your apple tv connection through itunes.  I tried logging in as root but access was denied so I used frontrow/frontrow.  I am the same as I do not know what to install / and where.

Is this an avenue for jailbreak? Can anyone comment?

BTW, I know there really hasn't been any news regarding an ATV 3 jailbreak lately, but I think it would do FireCore some good if they post an entry in their blog regarding the jailbreak status (even if it's just to say officially that work is ongoing). I'd imagine some potential customers are losing faith, and as a consequence chase other solutions for their media centre needs simply due to the lack of official word regarding the JB status.

Thoughts?

what is the difference. if you have a JB Gen 2, a Gen 3 will not be any different. Maybe less than 1/2 of 1 percent of content is even 1080p within XBMC.

The jailbreak is probably complete, but the modified Gen 2 market is still pretty lucrative. If the Gen 3 jailbreak is released, it will make all gen 2's completely worthless.

I think it's a money thing not a programming issue. Just my thought

There is some competition also to the atv solution on the horizon. This is just one of the compelling ideas that pretty much does what an ATV jailbreak would do but with Android.

PocketTV is priced right too -- right where appletv+firecore, and you get a keyboard and/or remote control. It may not be as elegant, but it actually may be even more invisible than the ATV puck depending on how you set it up.

They've raised over 500,000 on kickstarter with over 3000 supporters.

Stop TROLLING they are not holding back anything, the issue is by accident Apple have made their cheapest device the hardest to jailbreak. The info is online if you actually investigate it, there is no conspiracy Wink

I think it was mentioned earlier, but sshd is not installed on an apple tv by default, so the answer is no. This is not an avenue.

Firecore doesn't do the jailbreak, so they might have relationships with a couple of the guys who do work on jailbreaks, they have no idea if someone out of nowhere comes up with a jailbreak for the device.  So how could they say work is "officially" ongoing when its possible no one is working on it. Its possible none of the regular iOS jailbreakers even cares enough.  They might have ATV2's and like another poster mentioned, the ATV3 doesn't really give much benefit as a lot of streaming content on XBMC is barely 720p.

You have to remember that jailbreaking happens in peoples spare time away from work or school.  Its a hobby.  But if it makes you happy in the ATV Flash 1.7 blog post firecore says there is still no atv3 jailbreak.. i guess that makes anxious folks happy.

@mkclev As I know he was able to ssh because he had atv2 in other room, and he thought that he ssh' ed into atv3.
So you are using frontrow/frontrow to explore atv1 in a bedroom, thinking that you are in atv3 .

Learn the meaning of TROLLING, I'm not trolling I am insinuating that there may be other reasons why the jailbreak is not out. It's either assume there are motives or face the fact they cant crack it and apple beat them. I hear many opinions and I am convinced its about the gen 2 market

looks fake. not a real seasonpass blog and they would never make you complete adverting for download plus its 5.0.1 tethered not the latest 5.0.2 untethered which makes me think this is old anyways
