Submitted by Anon on January 5, 2011 - 9:51am

this is so cool

Air Video doesn't seem to be supported yet ... (tested on my iPad)

Audio streaming is coming soon - post updated.

my aTV's name (not the default name) - as seen in "Settings->General->About" - doesn't show up when I press AirPlay.
Since I don't own an aTV 2 I don't know if that is even possible.
It would help though when there are more than one aTVs in the network...

Sweet!! Works superb! Thanks for extending the life of my 1st gen Apple TV

Submitted by gedeyenite on January 5, 2011 - 10:52am

Will this allow me to streem ATV1 to ATV2?  I have nearly all my DVDs ripped to my XHDD attached to my ATV1 and if it could stream to all my other apple products, particularly my MacBook Pro docked to my bedroom TV and/or the ATV2 in the basement for my kids that would be great.

Excellent, thanks! It works very well, plus I love that I can now use my iPhone as the Apple TV remote control.....

Submitted by Anon on January 5, 2011 - 11:20am

Can you tell us non-techies how to install this capability in our apple tv gen 1?

Submitted by Anon on January 5, 2011 - 11:24am

"Remote HD" is not listed under Maintenance --> Install Extras. How do I make it appear there?

Submitted by Anon on January 5, 2011 - 11:25am

I tried installing via MAINTENANCE> INSTALL EXTRAS but I just keep getting an error and then my Atv restarts. Any suggestions?

James:

When AirPlay audio streaming becomes available to the old Apple TV, will it work from third-party applications on the iPhone or iPad that have been made to stream to the new Apple TV (such as Rhapsody or Pandora)?

Submitted by Anon on January 5, 2011 - 11:41am

Excellent! Seems to work really fine, although I miss the audio from iPod and the aspect ratio in photos is wrong. Keep on working!

Submitted by Parris on January 5, 2011 - 11:46am

You have to have successfully hacked your Apple TV Gen 1 using aTVFlash.

Live in the UK but have a US address and bank account and US I Tunes account.

No problem renting US I tunes and watching on ATV and ATV2 but when I try and watch using I Pad with Airplay on ATV1 it says ATV not authorized to play content? I Pad and ATV both signed into US I Tunes account?

Hi guys

just installed works fine except for photo's my ATV just reboots when trying to stream, any ideas?

Submitted by Anon on January 5, 2011 - 1:25pm

My iPhone 4.2 becomes a lovely remote control for my Apple TV, but this seems to have nothing to do with AirPlay whatsoever, with no options for streaming to Apple TV (or anywhere else)!

Submitted by Anon on January 5, 2011 - 1:37pm

make sure sure running remote hd on yr iPhone not the standard remote app, you do not need to use the remote hd app for airplay just make its installed & then open ipod on your iphone and select a movie and you get the airplay option in the bottom right hand corned click on that & it should have the option for your apple tv 1 select it and it should work hope this helps

I've had Remote HD installed on my ATV for some time now. Has there been some kind of update to enable AirPlay? If so, do I need to somehow update the Remote HD on my ATV?

Submitted by Anon on January 5, 2011 - 2:44pm

go into maintenance menu on your ATV & select Install Extras scroll down until you find Remote HD and it should say to the right update, so just click on remote HD & it should update.

Submitted by Anon on January 5, 2011 - 3:08pm

I have been using aTVFlash on my Apple TV Gen 1 for more than 2 years, and I am using the most recent update of aTVFlash.

Submitted by WesGaige on January 5, 2011 - 3:30pm

It works with iPod.app and YouTube only as far as I can tell. What about other apps like Netflix?

I would like to know this too!

Very easy to install, works great except for photos have a discolouration on one of the edges and there seems to be problems with displaying Aperture created slideshows.

Hey, nice featureBut it seems more like it is copying the file to ATV, than kind of streaming it. At least, this is how I experience it from the time it takes from i hit the airplay button to something happens on the ATV and also from the sound of the busy harddrive on ATV during the process.Any comments on that ? Best Regards, Peter G. Larsen

Submitted by peterg.29406 on January 5, 2011 - 4:20pm

Sorry to comment once more.I tried Airplaying a 10mins podcast from Itunes on my MacBook to my ATV (1.gen) - it went forever before it started. Actually it was much faster to copy the file wirelessly (that took less than a minute) to the ATV, than streaming it!!!Are my settiings somehow wrong and if so, how and where do i correct them? Best Regards,Peter G. Larsen

On the "Install Extras" page, there is only the words "Install Extras" and an icon of a package with stuff coming out of it. I'm running Apple TV 3.0.1 and ATV Flash 4.0.2. Is there any way to get this new feature without having to update both these things since it's such an ordeal every time I do it?

Submitted by Anon on January 5, 2011 - 5:11pm

Had a quick play and first impressions are good. However my atv reboots when I try to send photos to it, same as a few others have experienced. Getting audio sorted soon would be great. Well done

One bug to report - if the screensaver is active on the ATV when you select the Apple TV in Airplay to send the video from iPad / iPhone to the ATV, the audio starts playing but the video does not - the screensaver remains on the ATV screen with the Airplay audio playing behind it. Fix coming?

Submitted by johnf.21400 on January 5, 2011 - 6:41pm

Impressed with the speed of playback - One issue I can't figure out - I'm able to get video playback on my atv from my iphone's ipod app and youtube but not from my MBP.  Did I miss something in setup?  Any suggestions?  I also noticed the screensaver bug.

My Remote HD says Installed, not Update. I cant figure out how to update it.

I am the author of Remote HD's AirPlay server. Here are few things I would like to add:

  • Streaming from atv1 to atv2, very cool idea. Will look into it.
  • Any application capable of sending AirPlay video (including iTunes on Mac/PC) can stream to Remote HD's AirPlay server.
  • Video streaming from Netflix or AirVideo will work from Jailbroken iOS device + AirPlay enabler
  • Remote HD's AirPlay does not download the entire video before it can start playing. Forwarding while video is downloading should stop the download, forward to the correct location and resume download from there; just like the AppleTV black does. Try playing some other video or restart your AppleTV to flush out the caches.
  • When audio streaming over AirPlay becomes available, all 3rd party apps will be able to stream audio to your old AppleTV.

 Issues being worked on:

  1. Screensaver bug
  2. Reboots when streaming Photos on some devices
  3. Discoloration and aspect ratio issues with Photos on some devices
  4. Aperture created slideshows causing issues with photo streaming

Submitted by johnf.21400 on January 5, 2011 - 7:45pm

A little more info on my issue - it seems I can only stream video (tv shows and movies) from my MBP to atv that I ripped versus video (tv and movie) purchased from itunes.  I don't have this condition between my iphone and atv - Iphone to atv works across the board.

I have a question I have jailbroken my old apple tv and iPod Touch 2G.  I dont have ATV Flash installed on it.  I have installed the new Remote HD on apple TV.  Im getting an error when trying to switch for ipod to apple TV.

After I got it set up my ipad shows what is is on the TV screen from the 1st gen AppleTV.

All the remote control stuff from the iPad to the AppleTVworks.

Now how to I get RemoteHD to display video that is running on the iPad on the TV through the atv1?

Submitted by Anon on January 5, 2011 - 9:56pm

Do I need 4.2 on the iPhone in order for this to work?

Submitted by Anon on January 5, 2011 - 10:32pm

iTMS indicates that you only need 3.1 or better on your iPhone

Submitted by Anon on January 5, 2011 - 11:10pm

I like the AirPlay hack. As others have pointed out, it's completely independent of the iPhone app.
Can stream movies, podcasts, photos and more, this is fantastic. worth its $4.00! And I got the tips that via some tools like handbrake and iFunia DVD ripper pro can make the Apple TV as a home centre, enjoy various video files(including HD) onto the widescreen TV freely, totally stunned! Then I don't need to update to an Apple TV2 because it doesnt work with a NAS based iTunes library, but was missing Airplay. Having Airplay working on my current AppleTV gives me the best of both worlds.

BTW: Here you can get how to use AppleTV as your new home Media Centre
