Today we're proud to introduce 'Seas0nPass' - a new jailbreak tool designed specifically for the AppleTV.

Seas0nPass was created exclusively for the AppleTV user, as previously no AppleTV specific jailbreak tools were available. Seas0nPass allows you to easily create custom AppleTV IPSW files and restore them in iTunes (similar to the existing Pwnage Tool app). Also included is a simple 'tethered boot' option which aids in using newer AppleTV firmwares when an 'un-tethered' jailbreak is not yet available.

Seas0nPass is available for free, and is open source. The source code is available on Github.

What can I do with Seas0nPass?

  • Jailbreak the AppleTV with the latest 4.1.1 (iOS 4.2.1) software.
  • Easily perform a 'tethered boot' (when necessary).

What is the difference between a 'tethered' and 'un-tethered' jailbreak?

A tethered jailbreak requires the AppleTV to be connected to a computer for a brief moment during startup. An un-tethered jailbreak removes this restriction. Un-tethered jailbreaks are are a bit more complex and take more time to complete.

How much does Seas0nPass cost?

Seas0nPass is available as a free download - no strings attached.

What are the minimum requirements?

Mac: OSX 10.6 or later

Windows: coming soon

Can I use this on my iPhone, iPad, or other iOS device?

Nope. Seas0nPass is designed exclusively for the 2nd gen AppleTV.

Sounds great! Where can I download it?

The Seas0nPass app, and user guides can be found at Seas0nPass.com

Comments are welcome below. Enjoy Smile

I wish anyone can just help me pass the Error 1600, after manually restoring to custom firmware in iTunes. I even get the error when I try to manually restore to the original firmware. That is weird. I tried on my MacbookPro and my other WinXP PC. Anyone? ... (might it be the USB cable? I ordered a new one online but I don't think it's USB, cause I can simply get to DFU mode anytime I try).

Please help...

Really good work so far!!! If you don't know much about computers or their OS DON'T download a beta release and believe it works like a microsoft app!!

Please make the browser compliant with Adobe Flash Player.

I tried half a dozen times in safe mode and still it stalled at "failed itunes script"

It gave me error message 1600 everytime. In and out of safe mode

Any other suggestions?

Submitted by Anon on January 14, 2011 - 4:40pm

I keep getting itunes error 1602 when iTunes is performing the restore.

any ideas fellas?

Plex was updated to 6.4 and it works better.  So far I have been able to play both 720p and 1080p.  It is not consistent when it comes to the buffering delay, but so far I have been able to see three movies with no interruptions.  I think the trick is to re-start the computer every time you start having buffering issues.  Hope this help.

There's a lot of catching up for you to do here and you need to be aware of what goes on between apple and the jailbreak community! This is a candid advice for you and might save you from trouble now and in the future. I bet you also dont know that even though your device is jailbroken, you could knowingly or unknowingly unjailbreak it and possibly brick your device. Regarding your statement on "See what else we're working on...maybe you could write some portions of the software for us since you seem to know what to do, what should come next and when. If this is not the case then you need to be a little bit patient about waiting, the world hasn't come to an end the last time I checked!!! Firecore is abreast of so many issues, hardware limitations with the 8GB limited HD storage and 256MB RAM on the aTV2g, iOS updates (albeit with new and enticing features) but with tendencies to break any jailbreak you already have with your device. This usually warrants the need for another jailbreak which requires exploits and meen that isnt easy to come by and even if they do find one they have shortcomings (hence the situation we find ourselves in). Apple's regular updates also requires firecore to update certain portions of their software to be compatible with these updates. So you need to be aware of all these issues and also the fact that firecore is trying to add more functionality to an ever changing device - softwarewise.Well you might ask why all this balancing acts and the justification behind all this trouble when there are other devices that can pretty much do all you require out of the box.Maybe you should go for such device but I must tell you that aTV2g, just like every other apple product, are great devices and has potential to be even greater with a jailbreak. and blows its competition out of the water. Some products I've used havent even come close to the intuitive UI, speed and responsiveness, the buzz and connection you get with the use of aTV2g and indeed all apple products. So be patient, the wait is worth it at the end.

You don't need to restart your computer everytime, just the Plex Media Server. Go to Preferences>General>Show Dock Icon to give you an easy way to restart the PMS.

I notice that Seas0npas is up to version 6.6.  Can some one tell me what are the changes?

Submitted by tonyson25 on January 14, 2011 - 10:16pm

This is probably the most thought about, well written and compassionate wessage by  a user. I applaud you. Even if no one else will know that it was recognized. I have wondered why so many people think they are getting ripped off, because they can't seem to do what some have, either because what is being asked of them is somewhat complex and they may be new to a. mac products, b. beta software ... and c. lack a patience. At the very least the will have a great machine soon enough at a discount price, and the knowledge of what went into the making of software development in a complex situation. And wheteher they know it or not, thier own frustrations are part of the beta experience. They will greatly appreciate the product even more once these geniuses finsih what they have started.

So folks if you can't get it to work properly... read up on other posts around here to see if your problem had been addressed earlier, then write if you don't see it. But chances are they have been brought up and solved... good luck with your experiences, frustrations and successes... they when all is said and done, send a letter to firecore and tell them how much you love all their labor and thought processes and for letting you help them make a great product by assisting in the testing.

Running 0.6.6 Seas0nPass..

Followed this guide: http://support.firecore.com/entries/346673-installing-atv-flash-black step by step after Seasonpass'ing my ATV.

Everything acted as described, however, I have no extra menus whats so ever??? I feel like it's jailbroken all right, and ATV Flash wouldn't install without that being the case...

Supposedly the ATV should "restart" / "flash" after successful ATV Flash install (it did!) and the menus should be there??

Can anyone advise?

Good work!! But;

Could you please get ride of some memory consuming stuff under the ATV standard menu "internet" etc. or at least have that as an option.

Are their other ways to not get the message "low memory"? Please implement them!!

Could their be a way of watching a movies (utube etc.) from internet (with adobe flash player and similar) on your Mac but also see it on your Apple TV??

best rgds!!

then i tried to replace the original firmware in "library/itunes/apple tv software updates/" with the custom ipsw file and restore it with itunes... then i get error 21 or 1600 in itunes... so maybe the restore script isnt the problem ?! the ipsw file seems to be incorrect.

Okey, so I've been having some really problems with this software.
FIrst I had trouble completing the tethered boot, but now I have fixed that.
But then a new problem showed up, my wifi connection was lost.
Yes I have the 0.6.6 software but it's still not working. I have tried to do the jailbreak like 10 times and every time I got the same results, does anyone have any clue why it isn't working?

Submitted by Anon on January 15, 2011 - 3:22pm

Yes indeed, but Betas are supposed to work. Even with errors but not to work at all means maybe Alpha software. Beta is supposed to be usable.

I bought atvflash and failed to jailbrake my ATV using SeasonPass. No big deal. It's kind of fun. I suspect I am missing something here to do with a tehered jailbrake. Would someone please clarify?

- if the ATV is rebooted do you have to have it connected to the Mac that did the jailbrake?

- how do you know that the ATV is jailbroken?

- I ran SeasonPass .66 . I disconnected all cables from the ATV. Ran SeasonPass. It made a modified version of 4.2.1 and placed it in my home directory. It then asked for me to attach the ATV to the Mac via usb and put things in dfu mode. iTunes then restored using the modified 4.2.1 . Click done. Disconnect the usb. At this point is the ATV jailbroken?

- click on tethered boot. Hook up atv and get it into dfu mode again.

- disconnect, hook up hdmi and network cables and I get the ATV at an Apple logo that stays there.

Can you just keep the ATV hooked up via usb to the Mac?

nito's jailbrake instructions are quite a bit more involved than the SeasonPass approach.

Anyway, am stuck at the Apple. So I just restored it to the ordinary 4.2.1 and all works well. Still, it would be nice to jailbrake it.

>Step 4: When prompted, connect your AppleTV using a micro-USB cable (leave power disconnected), and hold both the >'MENU' and 'PLAY/PAUSE' buttons for 7 seven seconds.

nothing happened after I did above instruction. Please advice.

Submitted by Anon on January 16, 2011 - 4:33am

What's the instructions for restoring back to the original OS ????.

Pressing DOWN and MENU does not work for me.

I also got stuck with the 1600 error and now all I have is the apple logo - sometimes - the atv seems to be rebboting periodically.

Submitted by Anon on January 16, 2011 - 4:45am

---> restore to original os:

connect your apple tv using the usb cable to your mac (no power)... in itunes.. select your apple tv.. and click restore Wink

if you get an error there
go to your user directory and then library/Apple Tv Software Updates/ and delete all the files..

maybe you have to reconnect your apple tv then to your mac and click again "restore" .. itunes will download new firmware & os files and install them.

Submitted by batman on January 16, 2011 - 6:48am

Make sure you have the latest update of iTunes

Submitted by Anon on January 16, 2011 - 9:52am

So, we are at 0.6.6. right now? And the most important fix is the wifi issue? Well, how nice! But how about the many other bugs in this crap? Do you think we are stupid or so?
My advise to the developer(s): Get this garbage off line immediately, and release it again, when it works okay. Test it on your own Apple TV first before you demolish the ones of the users.

Submitted by jhernandez86 on January 16, 2011 - 10:07am

Dude, how about some respect for the developers and the people on this forum.  This is still continue to be a beta release.

Submitted by Anon on January 16, 2011 - 10:37am

Come off it! How about some respect for the users? Of course the developers do a great job, but they have a responsibility also. So they should be reluctant with releasing software that isn't tested properly.
