Seas0nPass has been updated to support a TETHERED jailbreak of the new AppleTV 4.4 (iOS 5) software released on 10/12 (also supported are the new minor updates - 4.4.1 released on 10/17, 4.4.2 released on 10/24, 4.4.3 released on 11/17, and 4.4.4 released on 12/16). Full details on what's new in 4.4, status of 3rd party features, and how to update are below.

Should I update?

Currently the jailbreak for 4.4+ is tethered, which is a bit less convenient than an untethered version. If the features added in 4.4 excite you it may be worth updating; however, the previous 4.3 version will continue to be supported so updating is not required.

The full list of changes included in 4.4 can be found below:

  • AirPlay Mirroring: Now with video mirroring – wirelessly stream what’s on your iPad 2 screen to your HDTV.
  • Photo Stream: View photos recently taken on your iOS device and pushed to your Photo Stream in iCloud.
  • Trailers: A whole new way to browse and view hundreds of the latest theatrical trailers.
  • National Hockey League: Watch live games. View highlights, scores, and more.
  • Wall Street Journal Live: Watch up-to-date news, business commentary, and financial analysis from leading experts.

Apple has also added support for subtitles in Netflix and three new slideshow themes: Photo Wall, Flip-up, and Shifting Tiles.

Which plugins are supported on 4.4?

  • Couch Surfer (works)
  • Last.fm (works)
  • Media Player (works)
  • NitoTV (works)
  • Overflow (works)
  • Remote HD (works)
  • Rowmote (works)
  • RSS Feeds (works)
  • Weather (works)
  • XBMC (nightly builds only)
  • Plex (not working)

How do I update?

Seas0nPass will default to the latest untethered version, which is currently 4.3. If you want to use Seas0nPass to update and jailbreak a newer version simply follow the steps below.

  1. Download version 4.4.4 (9A406a) and save the IPSW in an easy to find location.
  2. Download the latest version of Seas0nPass.
  3. Open Seas0nPass and Option + click (Mac) or Shift + click (PC) the Create IPSW button and select the new IPSW file that was downloaded in step #1.
  4. Seas0nPass will complete the jailbreak and restore process automatically.
  5. After the restore is complete, move the AppleTV to your TV and follow the steps for performing a Tethered Boot.

A demo video that outlines the tethered jailbreak process can be found here.

Enjoy. Smile

Update: It seems Apple has taken down the 4.4.1 AppleTV update due a number of reported issues. For now 4.4 is the recommended version for those wishing to update.

Update 2: The 4.4.1 version has been re-released.

Update 3: Seas0nPass has been updated to support AppleTV 4.4.2 - released on 10/24.

Update 4: Seas0nPass has been updated to support AppleTV 4.4.3 - released on 11/17.

Update 5: Seas0nPass has been updated to support AppleTV 4.4.4 - released on 12/15.

Are there any plans on supporting Plex install on this jailbreak release for 4.4.2?

Thanks

USB cable in not you problem. there is lots of time (about 3-4 mins roughly) to disconect the usb and connect the HDMI. The problem is the power. For now just use an extension cord until an untethered version comes out. Run it from the room where the ATV2 is going to be, to the Imac room then plug everything into the computer, do the tether boot disconnect the the usb and take it to the tv keeping the power plugged in then plug in the HDMI and you should be up and running still. Good Luck it works for me.

I have updated aTV 4.4.3 patched by FireCore.
After that I could played DVDs and Photos.
However when I saw my photos in Media Player, aTV has relaunched, but I could not play menus in aTV, because the aTV was inactivated for my remote.
Therefore I have disconnected the power cable and revonnect it to the aTV.
The result is the display in TV that indicates connect a USB cable between aTV and PC.
I am now restoring aTV 4.4.3 patched by FireCore into my aTV.
Can I do anything?

In 2nd time problem issue, I have done Tetherd Boot by seas0npass, it's resolved.
Thanks

Dang i didønt read the thing about 4.4 being a TETHERED jailbreak before bying the aTV software. I really need the 4.4 settings to set the output to 50hz to match my tv. ANY ETA on an UNthehered jailbreak?

Please hurry, and thanks for some great software.

Submitted by Anon on November 27, 2011 - 12:50pm

Excellent update, but is there an ETA for the untethered version?

I have two appleTVs that. Need to be tether booted almost daily for one reason or another (usually XBMC freezing).

I might be inclined to buy the aTV Flash app for both if there was an untethered version.

Please please can you help us by having an untethered version, or at least explain what the holdup is?

Thanks guys!

Had the same problem, may be that my MacBook (13") can't deliver enough juice to the ATV.

1) Boot it with power and usb

2) Go into DFU and unplug the power cord from the ATV

...that worked for me...

Shouldn't you be asking the jail breakers that are working on jailing breaking the latest vernon of iOS, instead of Firecore?
If you do a little googling around you'll find there is no untether for the latest version yet.
Once the jail breakers crack this, Firecore can update Seas0nPass .... then you can ask for an ETA!!!

Submitted by Anon on December 6, 2011 - 11:26pm

So... A new TETHERED update of sea0npass...

Is it just impossible to do an UNtethered version? Or is it just impossible to address your users?

Submitted by darkrage000 on December 8, 2011 - 2:18pm

They dont NEED to address you. if you know ANYTHING at all, or even know how to read the blogs both here and all over google, then yo would know that Firecore is NOT the group that hacks the APPLE IPSW files (aka Operating System)

If you dont want tehtered, fall back to an earlier version. Common sense.

Figure it out!  no one is here to hold your hand.

before i purchase the software. Currently i have the lasted iOS 4.4.3 installed on my apple TV. If i wanted to do just the untethered boot and go back to iOS 4.3, will it allow me to do that with seasonpass with out any problems?

Submitted by Anon on December 12, 2011 - 4:58am

NO way. Too many ifs here. The need to connect to a computer every time for a reboot or go back to the previous OS version. Nah. Get this in order before selling Atv Flash (black)

i've running iOS 4.4.3 on my appleTV. when i plug it into my imac ... it blinks once but it don't starts to blink countinuesly. so i don't get my ATV into DFU mode. are there any solutions?

please help!

thank you!

Submitted by matts.9192 on December 13, 2011 - 1:33pm

Yeah, I agree. I paid for ATV Flash (Black) and updated to 4.4 and now I can't use it. I tried to do the tethered update and got to the last step and realized that you have to have it plugged in by the TV already for it to work. Not gonna happen since my PC is in another room. Please, someone get an untethered fix.

The Genius of "pod2g" has the untethered jailbreak for the Apple TV 2 (4.4.3), now is a matter of time to be released!

Hi,

I paid too for the aTV Flash long ago and worked great.. that is until I did the update and now, running the latest update and stuck as I cannot downgrade or even jailbreak tethered. It always give me errors and just won't work.

I just can't wait for someone to find a way to jailbreak it and i'm sure it's question of time., so maybe will all be lucky and receive an nice gift from Santa this year Wink

I have bought a AppleTV 2G and I updated to 4.4.4 inmediatly, so now I am trying to jailbreak it, but none of the described methods work!
Please, test your stuff better, before saying it works!!! IT IS SO FRUSTRATING!!!!

Anyway, besides my frustration right now, I would like to give you an advice: Your software and guides are really SHIT, and not clear enough!
If there is something extra needed to be done to jailbreak 4.4.4 please right another guide, it is too confusing!
And right now I have the feeling that this so called jailbreak of 4.4.4 is only for people who have jailbreaked their aptv2 earlier.
If that is the case be write it down! Not everyone should be a NERD to know how to jailbreak their appletv.
Make better and clear software. Why are there preferences and should we as users use it? It is all unclear!

Thank you!

My 'what' is bad ass? Maybe I should teach you some grammar while you try to teach everyone manners. You used bad grammar, you're an idiot (see how I used the apostrophe?). I will now hack the OS, thanks for giving me the idea. Also, I'm very sorry for nagging the developers that work so hard. It seems like I only nagged you. Any chance that you can prove that they work hard? After all, they felt it was adequate to offer a jailbreak that cannot be rebooted without a tethered connection to a computer, maybe doing a job halfway was really hard in and of itself. Maybe you're right after all. (I wanted to point out that I used an apostrophe with the correct possessive tense) Regardless, your mother and I are extremely proud of you.

Seasonpass is not working on a new 4.4.4! Any other sugestions?

Submitted by Anon on December 19, 2011 - 1:43am

Well it works fine for me.. yeh there are some minor issues like jail braking but it would be constructive if you could comment on the thing you don't understand instead of spilling your frustrations to this forum. If you don't like atvflash, dont use it. If you have a question, just ask instead of screaming.

Submitted by Anon on December 19, 2011 - 1:44am

First of all, they didn't ask for your advice.
Second, you're advice isn't really advice at all. You're just complaining that FREE software and FREE tutorials are not simple enough for you. Don't complain to people that are providing something for nothing. If it's too complicated for you, maybe you shouldn't be here in the first place.
Lastly, if you absolutely have to say something and you can't avoid sounding like a total douche, at least learn some fucking grammar.

Hope this helps you with your problem.

I agree, Seas0npass does not work on a new Apple TV 2 with 4.4.4, i have tried this som many times. Is there any solution for this in the near future?

Submitted by Anon on December 19, 2011 - 6:22am

I don't often reply to posts like this however I felt the need to point out to you, idiot, that you actually did not use the apostrophe in the correct possessive tense. Indeed you did not use the apostrophe in ANY possessive tense whatsoever. What you did was to use the apostrophe to show the omission of letters in a CONTRACTION, that contraction being "you are" contracting to "you're".
The possessive tense is used to show ownership by one or many e.g. The Barber's Shop (belonging to 1 barber) The Barbers' Shop (belonging to more than 1 barber) additionally where there are 2 named owners it can be expressed Tom and Harry's Shop (for example) you can also imply possession e.g. I left my wallet at the barber's.

English lesson over, now run along and hack the OS on your own, and do try to understand things before you attempt to teach them next time.

Go make it yourself, if you can do better. Nobody can help you if you not even able to read. Sell your atv and get yourself a banana but dont forget to check the manual for it...

For the people that are trying to use 4.4.4 just restore to 4.3 custom firmware that is already jailbroken. Apple is still signing 4.3 firmware.

Hi there,

I have a apple tv version 4.4.4 which I want to jailbreak. I did everything in the manual, but I get an error.
The apple TV isn´t eligible for the requested build.
I did downloaded seasonpass and I used the 4.4.4 firmware conform the guide, what am I doing wrong?

Submitted by Anon on December 19, 2011 - 10:41pm

If you paid for it you may have a right to whinge... but you did not! so give the developers a break and only make constructive suggestions otherwise use just the ATV2 like apple intended...after all that all you paid for!

Submitted by Anon on December 20, 2011 - 1:39am

I am a bit worried after reading all these comments. I am not very computer literate and reading through some of these instructions it seems a bit confusing.

And the reading some of the posts on here make me worry even more.

What I do not get is why people are saying to do it yourself, if Firecore is selling the software. I understand that you need to run a "free software" which is not developed by Firecore, but none the less, Firecore states that you must jailbreak the ATV and suggests that you use Seasonpass.

So in my view, if you have purchases ATV Black, then it is up to Firecore to ensure their software works. If you can't even get to install, then Firecore should not hide behind Season pass"

At least that is what i see form all the comments.

Submitted by Anon on December 20, 2011 - 3:39pm

Hi there,

I have managed to do this successully from a Windows 7 build following the instructions. I have found that in the past, most of my issues have been resolved by ensuring that the latest version of ITunes is definately installed, resetting the atv to factory defaults, redownloading the ISPW and trying again.

Please refrain from directing your anger here, as FireCore are not obliged to cater to your every technical need, Seas0nPass is freeware, meaning that you are getting a service for free! I am sure they test their jailbreak vigourously before releasing them in order to save their reputation.

The issue here is likely to be down to yourself, as me and many others have got this jailbreak working fine.

If you are still having trouble after following the steps outlined above, then please comment back here with the exact error code that you are recieving and I will do my best to help you out.

As for having to be a 'NERD', these instructions seem pretty basic to me, if you can read english and have an ounce of common sense, you should be fine.

Same goes for anybody else who is struggling to do this...

Nathan

Well said,

If people out there are having genuine issues with this jailbreak, then please post the exact error codes you are receiving, leave your email address, and hope that somebody like myself is nice enough to drop you a few pointers. This is freeware, firecore are not obliged to support you on a product you have not paid for.
