It's a brand new year, and we've wasted no time getting back to work making the AppleTV even more awesome. As a result, we're happy to present you with a fresh, new version of aTV Flash (black) which features a number of great new things including: video zoom options, grid view watched icons, quick access to recently visited pages, improved support for subtitles, and a truckload of other improvements and bug fixes.

Would like to see that coming within a next release! :)

For the rest, awesome piece of software, great work guys!

Added file delete option

How do I access this, or make it work. I delete every movie after watching it once, from my server. But it would be nice to do this direct from the apple tv remote. Is this possible, cant find any "delete file option"

FYI

Noticed in the 1.1.1 that Couch Surfer Pro now supports the BBC Iplayer streams.

Previously I could navigate the website, but not play a video, but now the stream plays. Unfortunately the UI isn't perfect, but usable.

Main function with an ipad is to mirror. Now this does not work. Going back to pre jb days as this is a must have function. Very disappointing!

I think this is a fantastic idea, I have 2 ATVs one in lounge and the other in bedroom, quite often I start to watch a film in lounge and want to finish watching in bed, it takes forever to find the place where I left off..

Keep your shit opinions to yourself.

Has anyone really succesfully and fluidly used XMBC w/ a NAS drive over, say, SMB?

Mine is always a pain. The UI is sluggish (litter better w/ Eden but still terribly slow), the library scan usually takes forever, than stops. Finding content, browsing through Add-ons takes a while to load sub-directories. You get my point.
I find the whole XBMC experience an ATV2 that of a alpha release. XBMC has been great on the PC, even on the Mac.

Any suggestions? Better ad-ons, config, buffering? Anything will do.

Submitted by Anon on January 18, 2012 - 7:56am

I had no problems with the mirrorring option with the new JB.

Submitted by hdesoto on January 18, 2012 - 8:08am

I found some problems with Subtitles in spanish. Our famous letter Ñ , or letters with "accents", like: á, é, í, ó, ú, are shown with strange characters. Is this solved changing the Encoding?

Submitted by james on January 18, 2012 - 8:39am

The Delete option can be found through the popup menu, though it will be disabled by default.

  1. Enable the 'File Management' feature found in the Media --> Settings menu.
  2. Highlight the file to be deleted and hold the center (select) button.
  3. The Delete option will be available in the popup menu.

We've just stumbled across the MakeMKV issue and are looking into it.

Submitted by james on January 18, 2012 - 8:44am

Yes, changing the encoding type will ensure all special characters are displayed correctly.

Submitted by james on January 18, 2012 - 8:46am

We may be adding a global setting for the zoom feature in a future version.

Submitted by Anon on January 18, 2012 - 10:05am

When i go into the manage screens, I do not have an update button...
I can install and uninstall, which I tried but still ended up with ver o.8 or something like that(I am at work, sorry...)
Am I missing something as updates go?

Thank you.

If you're running one of the beta or rc versions you will need to run the 1.2 installer from a Mac or PC to update.

Once you're on the 1.x track, all future updates can be installed directly on the AppleTV.

Links for the latest version can be found in your account.

When I go to BBC Iplayer via Browser it asks me to install Flash. How do I do that?

Submitted by Anon on January 18, 2012 - 12:40pm

I am still missing support for multiple subtitles in FireCore's Media Player. It has been discussed several times that it would be desirable to improve it and even there have been some preliminary promising notes regarding this issue, already in September 2011. With respect to people who like to keep foreign movies with several language version of subtitles as well as with respect to hearing impaired versions.
Examples:
Movie.avi
Movie.en.srt
Movie.es.srt
Movie.fr.srt

I would very much appreciate comment on this particular issue, discussed in forum couple of times.

Submitted by Anon on January 18, 2012 - 12:56pm

Awesome job...

The one feature I'd really love to have is to be able to load metadata for folders instead of only files. My movies are organized into folders with *.nfo files, sometimes subtitle files and some movies broken into 700MB files. If there were an option to treat a folder as a 'root directory', so that all folders within that root directory are treated as individual movies (each folder gets appropriate metadata, when I click on one all files are played sequentially), Media Player would be perfect for me.

Submitted by lassel.2549 on January 18, 2012 - 1:10pm

cant find anything in the settings menu that says File Management.

Submitted by Anon on January 18, 2012 - 1:10pm

I gave up on XMBC a long time ago. If you're using it for media only (movies, music, pics, etc) I have found that Plex is bulletproof, fast and reliable.

I've yet to find something via atvFlash that works well with raw video_ts content though.

I have .avi TV Shows that are 4:3

- What are the steps to get the Zoom working: (Normal, Stretch, Crop)

I've tried List & Grid view, but can't find out how to access the new Zoom features... Anyone?

Also, can I Mark an entire Folder as "Mark as Watched", "Mark as Unwatched" for multiple TV Show Episodes?

Example: (Please add the "Blue Markers" to TV Show & Season)

- Bonanza <--- "Mark as Watched" would Mark Entire Show as Watched.

- - Season 1 <--- "Mark as Watched" would Mark Entire Season 1 as Watched.

- - - Bonanza.S01E01.A.Rose.for.Lotta.avi

- - - Bonanza.S01E02.Death.on.Sun.Mountain.avi

- - - Bonanza.S01E03.The.Newcomers.avi

Agreed surely most people have this setup so disappointed to see atv flash *still* doesn't have it.

Or do people genuinely have a folder called movies and dump everything in the root? Everyone I speak to doesn't do this and has folders

Submitted by Anon on January 18, 2012 - 2:45pm

only ipad 2 can mirror and as long as you are using 4.4.4 you can mirror just fine.

The File Management option is in the Settings menu of the Media Player, not the main Apple menu after Computers (assuming there are iTunes machines running).

You should have My Files (where you play media from) and Settings.

Remember, you need to have this updated Media Player installed to see the menu option and new delete feature!!! ;-)

Also, make sure the account username connecting to the shared folder has write permissions so the file can be deleted -

Indeed — English and some French, but not enough to watch a French film without subs. I thought xbmc supported idx/sub subtitles, but I couldn't get them to playback via the xbmc app either.

Submitted by Anon on January 18, 2012 - 11:55pm

i too am having this issue, i restored and re jail broke and nothing...but the update did work on my bedroom atv2 but i am on the old xbmc (not eden)

could be cause of protest but iono ! but needs to be fixed ASAP

Submitted by Ismailkidd on January 19, 2012 - 2:57am

Just wondering why media player wont let me use the track listing or fast forward the movies. it just say error connecting to network. If i ff>> then it just goes back to playing where i fast forwarded from.

Submitted by Deco on January 19, 2012 - 3:28am

i have to atv2's and yesterday (the 18th) one of them kept restarting when i go into XBMC, but the other one was fine.. same firmware, same jailbreak bla bla.. total mystery lol, and today after the internet strike, both are working fine (and simmilar) again.

even if everything is fine now, this is going to hunt in my brain for ages since i cannot re-create the situation again unless there's another strike :p, my question to myself will be "wtf was different with those 2 boxes and why did the strike affect one of them???"

btw. sadly it was the same day you released aTV flash 1.2 lol, easy for many to think thats the reason, but in my case i didn't update any of my boxes yet so thats crossed off my list ;)

have a great day all of you and thanks to the firecore crew for making apple tv useful! (HI5)

You so not need to install flash.

Ensure that the browser type you are running = Ipad (in settings)

Then navigate to iplayer Bigscreen page (www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/bigscreen/) (and prompt to install iplayer app)

Submitted by Anon on January 19, 2012 - 4:24am

Sorry, you do not need to install flash

Ignore prompt to install iplayer app - it works fine. Simply select your video & click on stream
