aTV Flash 4.5 for the 1st generation (silver) Apple TV is now available. Version 4.5 includes support for OS X 10.8 (Mountain Lion) as well as a handful of general improvements and fixes. We're also still working on a number of additional features for the 1st gen models and plan to have additional updates available soon.

What's new in 4.5?

  • Added support for OS X 10.8 (Mountain Lion)
  • Added active memory management (to keep things running smoothly)
  • Added ability to copy files between playlists
  • Resolved Smart Installer bug
  • Other miscellaneous improvements and fixes

Great! Where can I get it?

Version 4.5 is available through the Downloads tab in your account. If you're already running aTV Flash on your Apple TV you can update through the Maintenance --> Manage Plugins menu.

Enjoy! :-)

Submitted by Anon on August 7, 2012 - 10:51am

Nice work. There's still some ATV 1 users there so pls keep us on the radar! Thanks for lots of fun so far!

I am also very pleased to see you still supporting the 1st gen ATV. I love mine, use it almost everyday and only ever use the ATV Flash features. I do not want to stream video so have an external USB drive connected for my videos and movies . My only issue is that the ATV chokes on mkv files but I think that is due to the processor used.

Thanks for a great product and continued support of that product.

Mountain Lion support is cool... but please oh please let me have my netflix on my 1st gen atv! Pretty please!

Great that you are still working on this. Atv1 is still the best because of the hard disk imo. Use it all the time to play my music and movies.

Unfortunately Plex is not available on the ATV1. Sorry. :(

Excellent news! I've been using my ATV1 with ATV Flash since July 2008 with great results. I even modified mine to sport a SATA SSD disk and a BCM 70015 HD decoder card. I absolutely love the small form factor and elegance of the little thing.

I'm very pleased to see that you guys have not left the ATV1 behind. Please, keep up the excellent work.

Hi, Would you trade me the apple tv1 update for the apple tv2 update?

Submitted by josemr.85017 on August 7, 2012 - 11:04am

I had the same issue with MKV files on external drive. Try the XMBC plugin, they play smoothly with it and the UI is very nice. Also, media info is retrieved from IMDB and TVDB for movies and TV shows. Hope that helps!

There were a few installer related issues that appeared with the release of Mountain Lion. These have now been resolved.

Nice work! Thank you very much for still supporting the ATV1.

I just checked "My Account" some hours ago, noticing my Account/License will end in 27 days. You delivering the ATV1 update answered my question if I should upgrade to a lifetime account! ;-)

Just updated ATV on both my Mac and the Apple TV v1 I keep.  The active memory management is especially appreciated since the ATV tends to get quite laggy and unresponsive over time, forcing a reboot.  That and an unexpected upgrade to Nito (from .9 to 1.0) makes DVD playback actually quite nice from my Mountain Lion server over my wired network.

I'll have to try MKVs at some point although I'm not completely sold on investing in the BMC card.  But we'll see.

Air play is already supported isn't it?

Submitted by MichaelLAX on August 7, 2012 - 2:38pm

Airplay: My AppleTV1 already works with Airplay and I always assumed it was FireCore updates that did it!?  I do not have any other's updates anymore...

I actually tried out AirParrot for my 2009 MBP and it works great, too!

I know this may seem weird to point out, but I use my ATV1 as an Airplay speaker through the XBMC install provided by ATV Flash. Is that not the same thing?

Submitted by harryjon on August 7, 2012 - 4:42pm

I use PlexBMC plug-in for XBMC to access my plex server!  Works pretty well!

isn't this already enabled in RemoteHD??

Submitted by keviha on August 7, 2012 - 5:59pm

Good question....I didn't think ATV1 (even with aTV flash) would work with Airplay enabled devices.  For instance, I'd love to buy a new speaker with Airplay built in to add more audio only streaming capabilities when streaming from ATV1.  But I don't think that's possible.  Firecore...can you confirm?

Submitted by AxelGross on August 7, 2012 - 7:58pm

Would be great if Slingbox/Slingplayer could be added on ATV1... Thx
