Today we're proud to introduce Seas0nPass - a new jailbreak tool designed specifically for the AppleTV.

Seas0nPass was created exclusively for the AppleTV user, as previously no AppleTV specific jailbreak tools were available. Seas0nPass allows you to easily create custom AppleTV IPSW files and restore them in iTunes (similar to the existing Pwnage Tool app). Also included is a simple 'tethered boot' option which aids in using newer AppleTV firmwares when an 'un-tethered' jailbreak is not yet available.

Seas0nPass is available for free, and is open source. The source code is available on Github.

What can I do with Seas0nPass?

  • Jailbreak the AppleTV with the latest 4.1.1 (iOS 4.2.1) software.
  • Easily perform a 'tethered boot' (when necessary).

What is the difference between a tethered and un-tethered jailbreak?

A tethered jailbreak requires the AppleTV to be connected to a computer for a brief moment during startup. An un-tethered jailbreak removes this restriction. Un-tethered jailbreaks are are a bit more complex and take more time to complete.

How much does Seas0nPass cost?

Seas0nPass is available as a free download - no strings attached.

What are the minimum requirements?

Mac: OSX 10.6 or later

Windows: coming soon

Can I use this on my iPhone, iPad, or other iOS device?

Nope. Seas0nPass is designed exclusively for the 2nd gen AppleTV.

Sounds great! Where can I download it?

The Seas0nPass app, and user guides can be found at Seas0nPass.com

Comments are welcome below. Enjoy :-)

Update: Seas0nPass 0.6.4 has a bug that is preventing items from the 'Manage Extras' menu from being installed. An update will be available shortly.

Update 2: 0.6.5 has the Manage Extras menu install bug fixed.

Oh thats nice. However, is this tethered or untethered? Or is it simply a tool to package ISPWs? Somewhat fuzzy explaination of the tool imo.

i meant tethered firmwares

Any chance of gettin 10.5.8 support on Mac?

Submitted by Anon on January 11, 2011 - 1:43pm

I dont ever think that the atv flash black will work correctly, always having to jailbreak, all these hoops to go through to get the device to work. I would spend the extra few dollars for a better device. 99$ for appletv + price for atvflash back. and not knowing if it will work next week... this is no ATV v1 anymore hacking.

Submitted by kev_26 on January 11, 2011 - 1:46pm

Nice, at least we can do it on this way until the un-tethered Jailbreak comes out !Thanks !

Submitted by Anon on January 11, 2011 - 1:50pm

Anyone else not exactly clear what this is or does?

Submitted by Anon on January 11, 2011 - 1:55pm

Is this for 4.1 4.1.1 or what ever else has been released yet?

Submitted by Anon on January 11, 2011 - 1:56pm

NVM i found it :)

Still no windows version :-(

Submitted by collinsricki on January 11, 2011 - 2:11pm

I’m probably not the only person that is very unimpressed with the fact that Windows users have been left out yet again. I purchased this software months ago and have not been able to use it yet and all we get from firecore is that there will be a jailbreak or tool soon...

And still we sit here and wait, with a product that has been paid for in full and can’t actually be used.

I’m about ready to give up on this product this company and the money i spent on the product that doesn’t work as expected... I’m sure there must be someone out there that has developed a similar product that actually works with the most popular operating system in the world.

*ROFL* - Windows #WTF GET A MAC !!!

Submitted by ClimbAZ on January 11, 2011 - 2:17pm

sweet. Thanks guys! Big props and way to come through when we need ya. ATV jailbreak is now much simpler :)Keep up the updates and communication.Am excited about the progress with aTV flash.

Submitted by Anon on January 11, 2011 - 2:19pm

Apple TV won't open enter DFU mode now!!! Grgggrrrrrrrr, so fed up with this thing, thought it was meant to be simple?!!

Submitted by applesinafton on January 11, 2011 - 2:20pm

I'm still shit out of luck......happy for everyone with an apple computer.......please get a windows version up as soon as possible James!!!!!!!!!!

I guess us windows users who updated ATV 2 .....to 4.2.1 have to sit still and wait some more!

Submitted by Anon on January 11, 2011 - 2:20pm

Why is it that the Windows version is always “coming “soon”???

I mean it’s not that all ATV users owns a Mac or do they? I’m I the only Windows user out there, I don’t think so!!

I don’t want to bitch but it is frustrating to have to wait all the time. I think the ATV is one of the best devises and with aTV Flash it will be unbeatable!

Submitted by jamesm.7658 on January 11, 2011 - 2:21pm

Thanks for the taking the time to release the source for this along with the utility. A nicer compromise until the 4.2.1 untethered jailbreak is available. Keep up the good work!

Submitted by james on January 11, 2011 - 2:22pm

Right now the jailbreak is tethered - Seas0nPass makes using a tethered JB as painless as possible.

Submitted by Anon on January 11, 2011 - 2:22pm

Another crappy tethered jailbreak. Get real, I want my money back!!

Submitted by james on January 11, 2011 - 2:23pm

Possibly at some point, but there are numerous components that are not supported on 10.5 at the moment.

Submitted by josephp.0423 on January 11, 2011 - 2:24pm

i bought this product under the pretenses that it worked on windows applications. i paid in full and have yet to receive my promised merchandise. i also bout and upgrade package that expires after a certain amount of time. i clicked windows when i purchased this product and cant use it. all i keep hearing is "windows coming soon." i would be willing to throw a little more money at firecore but it will be in the form of a lawsuit. if anyone wants to get there money back and some for there troubles i am sure that there are enough piste off windows users who cant use this software because they were tricked out of there money. $10 each and we will own firecore.

Submitted by Nuworld on January 11, 2011 - 2:27pm

I agree!!! I'm done with this ATV crap!! and this company!I'm tired of wait on broken promises and being told it will be out in a few week. I'm not sure but the last time i checked a week was 7 days long not! months on end! This ATV black box is in the trash and going the the land fill. This just pisses me off to no end!

Submitted by ClimbAZ on January 11, 2011 - 2:27pm

dewd, this is the best jb option for ATV jailbreak for sure. a jailbreak is a prerequisite for aTV flash. They presented a nice simple way to get this going and though I've already jb my ATV (took a while) I can appreciate this and should make setup a lot easier for newbie's I would like to see more communication on the progress of aTV flash tough. Am excited and impatient :) but am going to try Plex and then flash when it's ready.

Submitted by Anon on January 11, 2011 - 2:30pm

It's very simple if u don't have a use for it don't download it!
As for the other questions, as everyone always says search is your friend. Don't be a RICHARD and think by search I mean just FireCore. There are tons of sites dealing with these issues, try this one! http://www.hackint0sh.org/
Or search for HTMac then find the ATV version u have!
Come on man use your brain. " Use it or loose it" or does $50 entitles you to have everything handed to you on a platter?

Submitted by Anon on January 11, 2011 - 2:32pm

With all due respect Joseph, you should really learn to spell.

Submitted by Anon on January 11, 2011 - 2:32pm

I love Windows users. So pathetic - like 4year old kids ...

Submitted by james on January 11, 2011 - 2:33pm

The truth is that since the AppleTV is an Apple/Mac product, creating Mac compatible applications takes far less time.

We haven't forgotten Windows users by any means, but waiting to release the Mac version until the Windows version is complete doesn't really help anyone.

Submitted by Anon on January 11, 2011 - 2:38pm

Seriously, when will you people understand the meaning of "beta software"?

Submitted by Anon on January 11, 2011 - 2:42pm

Too bad there is still no Windows support. It would have been nice to use the app that I bought. As for all the ignorant commentary from Apple users they do well to remember that traditionally Apple's claim to fame was how was how easy it was to use. So this hardly makes you a genius for running Mac only software on a Mac. Don't be so smug. It's arrogant and it makes you look ugly.

Submitted by lawrence.fleming on January 11, 2011 - 2:44pm

Listen... You go into these things with your eyes open. If you read the various blogs/news updates you will find there is no decent jailbreak for the Apple Tv out there....
However it would be nice to read an update that said " Windows Only, Mac version coming soon!"
FFS......let's get this Windows version out so we can move on and enjoy what looks like a great product- aTV....
No offence to Mac users but it's like the poor cousin status for the Windows users....

Submitted by Anon on January 11, 2011 - 2:49pm

Now aTV is a brick.
Tread lightly!

Submitted by Anon on January 11, 2011 - 2:50pm

Thanks guys for the update. Is there a way to not have to download the 4.2.1 again since i already have it on my system...

Windows users can sit on it an spin.......

Submitted by Anon on January 11, 2011 - 2:50pm

James--Quicker than promissed! I planned to nail the jailbreak tonight with the help of the YouTube video you posted. I was almost there! But now I can just point and click with this and also make the tethered boot easier moving forward. Thanks.

Why though the point above about 10.5.8 support? Will the MacBook with OS X 10.5.8 that I have been trying to jailbreak with not work with this this jailbreak tool?

Also why the complaints for ATV Flash black support for Windows and availability. I paid for and downloaded what I believe to be a working Beta for ATVFlash Black installed via Windows. Do I not have that?

Thanks!

Submitted by Anon on January 11, 2011 - 2:50pm

Looks like a cool application. Don't stress about it not being available on Windows yet, just borrow a friends Mac or walk down to the local Apple Store :P

I found a good tutorial on how to use Seas0nPass here.

By the way, where did the name come from? What does it mean?

Submitted by Anon on January 11, 2011 - 2:51pm

I too am a windows user that is upset about the delay for our OS. But we bought a beta version and knew that being a new product, it would take time, and can't start talking about lawsuits and such. I don't agree with joseph on his "legal" rant and I don't agree with the "anonymous" poster stating that all windows users are like 4 year old kids. At least Joseph had the balls to put his name on the post (mispelled and all...).

Submitted by Anon on January 11, 2011 - 2:52pm

Thanks, it looks like making the jb process a whole lot easier until the untethered option is available.

I had a question though, after using this to jb your aTV (including a tethered boot) and then applying the aTV black flash files, the unit reboots to apply the aTV black flash, do you again need to do a tethered boot using seasonpass?

Thanks

Submitted by Anon on January 11, 2011 - 2:53pm

So, a question about a Tethered ATV Black, what point is it considered a reboot? Like, every time I want to turn it on after being "asleep" would I have to connect it to my PC and run a tool like redsn0w or Seas0npass? Or, is it only after a hard reboot, and not a lowtide.app reboot, that would need to be connected to a PC? I just don't know if I should update to ios 4.2.1, or stay on the current ios it has.

Submitted by james on January 11, 2011 - 2:55pm

The only time the 'tethered boot' process needs to be repeated is if the power cable is disconnected. This process won't be needed if your AppleTV goes to sleep, or if you restart the Lowtide/AppleTV.app.

Submitted by Nuworld on January 11, 2011 - 2:56pm

Yes it does! If we windows users have to wait all the fricken time!!!!!

Submitted by Anon on January 11, 2011 - 2:56pm

Well done guys, there are some right whinging impatient PC arseholes moaning about releasing a mac version first, simple, go buy a mac, "it just works" .

It is called Apple TV for a reason ;) .

Im off to untether my ATV2 , ahh Bliss...

Submitted by Anon on January 11, 2011 - 2:57pm

Lawrence, Long time Mac users have had to deal with "Windows Only" and "Mac coming soon" and "No Mac version" for decades. It has only been in the last few years that Mac folks have gotten to enjoy SOME software releases that coincide with windows releases; stop your belly-aching.

Submitted by Anon on January 11, 2011 - 2:58pm

I get this error all the time:

"itunes restore script failed"

Submitted by Anon on January 11, 2011 - 3:03pm

James,

So what's the difference between this and the latest Redsnow beta 6? Is it the same? Thanks.

Submitted by Anon on January 11, 2011 - 3:03pm

Strange...completed all as stated....
upon install of aTV Flash Black...
HDMI input not showing? Light on unit blinks when remote used to hit menu, play etc...but nothing on screen.
Reboot (menu/play hold) only brings up Apple logo. Sits here for 30 min. ???
Any advice?

Submitted by andrewb.0074 on January 11, 2011 - 3:05pm

I am getting that too, iTunes tells me "unknown error 1600." This Jailbreak is not working

Submitted by Anon on January 11, 2011 - 3:07pm

Same problem. It will not enter DFU mode for me either.

Submitted by Anon on January 11, 2011 - 3:07pm

This is awesome. Having to run code for a Tethered boot was a pain in the ass. Thanks guys.

Submitted by SuddleD on January 11, 2011 - 3:08pm

Ok, thanks for the info, so I guess if I update to 4.2.1, and since I never unplug it, I shouldn't have to boot tethered very often. Maybe I will upgrade today, thanks. B-)
