Seas0nPass has been updated to support an un-tethered jailbreak of the new AppleTV 4.3 (8F455) software. A big thanks goes to comex for helping port the Saffron jailbreak to the AppleTV. For the uninitiated, Seas0nPass is the simplest jailbreaking tool available for the AppleTV, and the first to support the new 4.3 version.

What's new in AppleTV 4.3?

- iTunes TV Shows: Purchase your favorite TV shows directly from the iTunes Store, and watch the shows you already own, in HD.
- Vimeo: Browse and play videos from Vimeo, access your video inbox, and mark videos you want to watch later.
- 4.3 is also required to access Movie and TV Show rentals.

What happens to my jailbreak and settings if I choose to update?

If you choose to update you will lose your current installation of aTV Flash (black) and any related settings. If the above features don't excite you the auto-update feature can be disabled through the Maintenance --> Settings menu.

Is aTV Flash (black) compatible?

Yes! aTV Flash (black) Beta6 is compatible with the new 4.3 software. Simply re-run the aTV Flash (black) installer after jailbreaking and you'll be automatically be updated to the latest and greatest version.

Additionally we have a shiny new version of Media Player (0.7.1) for you!

What's new in Media Player 0.7.1?

  • Added more subtitle encoding types
  • Added subtitle options (size, color, border)
  • Added support for folder cover art
  • Improved audio track detection
  • Improved AFP/SMB streaming
  • Improved chapter support
  • Improved .srt subtitle support
  • Improved subtitle settings (persistent)
  • Improved DVD playback and menu handling
  • Improved appearance of Loading/Buffering box
  • Resolved crashes when trying to access a broken/unavailable share
  • Resolved issues related to displaying metadata
  • Other miscellaneous fixes

Great! How do I update?

The latest version of Seas0nPass (and user guides) can be found at seas0npass.com.

The new version of Media Player can be downloaded on your ATV2 through the Maintenance --> Manage Extras menu. If you need to re-install aTV Flash (black), links for the latest version can be found under the Downloads tab in your account.

New users can pre-order aTV Flash (black) here.

Enjoy Smile

Thanks - we've got a few ideas for implementing this and should have something by the time the final version is ready.

Your best option at this point will be to re-run Seas0nPass. This will update and jailbreak your AppleTV at the same time.

What you posted seems fine, though you won't actually need to manually add the XBMC source info as this is included with the default SP install.

Submitted by james on August 20, 2011 - 6:55am

Unfortunately hiding the default plugins is not yet supported in 4.3.

Thanks for the great update!

Brief question: why it takes so long until a local cover art is displayed? There is no need to wait until the other meta data is downloaded and it is quite irritating. Would be great to run through a list of movies and have immediately displayed the cover art if it is already stored locally.

Many thanks!

Restored AppleTV using latest Seas0nPass.
Got Error 1601 near end of restore process. Ignored it (hit OK),
Plugged in HDMI cable to Apple TV, rebooted Apple TV using Apple TV
remote.... Voila' everything works. Enjoying Media Player, Vimeo, and
XBMC. Thanks guys for an awesome job with this update!

Hi James,

i can´t add a share for the mediaplayer since QNAP released the new 3.5.0 firmware using netatalk 2.2.

Manage shares finds my NAS (AFP) but could not connect using the correct user + password. I always get the error "AFP connection failed: unreachable network or incorrect login/password"

Login to the NAS works fine using the web-interface. Strange.

Even Upgrade to 4.3 didn´t help.

Can anybody confirm the problems with QNAP NAS since firmware 3.5.0?

Thanks

Bounty

Is there a way to backup the XBMC database, skins, etc. so I don't have to add all my sources and scrape again?  I tried updating from the Maintenance program but the installation always fails.

Thanks for getting back to me!

SeasonPass will not recognize my ATV in DFU mode. I have rerun the program 4 times and it still can not recognize my ATV. iTunes however recognizes it but I can not upload the new software. What am I suppose to do?

Submitted by Anon on August 20, 2011 - 12:03pm

Me too, consistently. ATV Beta 6. I loaded my picture slides from my computer pictures folder over the network. Whether I force preview screen saver or it does it itself it requires reboot after signal is lost.

Thanks James!!

Make sure your ATV2 power cord is plugged in.
Hold Menu + Play/Pause button for 7 seconds or so.
Light will start blinking fast. Release the remote ctrl buttons
and you should be good to go. Won't work if ATV2 is not plugged in
using power cord.

I had this before I upgraded my QNAP to 3.5.0, so I believe ATV is the problem. Seems that ATV 0.6 does not play nice with this newest jailbreak. RemoteHD also not working. Hopefully firecore acknowledges these issues.

James it would be nice if you could enlighten us with a little more detail on your "ideas" and or a timeline for the final release?  I was thinking it would be a fairly simple process to archive the preferences folder and subfolders and then copy the archive of contents back to the computer.

used 0.7.8 seasonpass on both mac and pc to try and jb. but when .ipsw has been created, the restore to atv2 shows error 1394. how to get around this?

Submitted by danielwmarr on August 21, 2011 - 4:40am

I fully agree, known issues should be stated when the updates are posted. I'm gutted about losing PLEX!

Submitted by Anon on August 21, 2011 - 5:25am

If you have got passed this then ignore this. I was getting connection refused even if I manualy entered passwords. If you have xbmc on a laptop or other pc create or use the shares, sources and passwords from that and overwrite your avt2 xmls. I had the same issue so I created same on my laptop and copied to atv2. It wont actually create passwords for your NAS but I can now see everything on my NAS MBW2. Hopefully this works for your QNAP NAS.

For those of you still having Plex issues, downgrade Plex to version 0.6.4 and you'll be good.

Does anyone realize that after using the newest seasonpass cause DD not to work? I am having the DD detection issue. All of my setting are setup the same way with early version of seasonpass.

Now whenever I tried same movies on netflix with DD, my receiver does not detects DD signal rather than PCM. At beginning I though it was my receiver;however, when I try both my ps3 and bluray player. DD actually work with the same movies from netflix and dvd. Is it me or is it seasonpass is causing this? I tried to JB 4 times wit the same result.

Something is wrong with DD in ios 455 because I downgraded to 305 and dolby digital is back. Can it be something on my setting which cause DD not to work?

Submitted by Anon on August 21, 2011 - 9:58pm

I tried doing this with both my MAC and my PC. Both OSes are the most current. Both itunes are most current and fresh install. Apple TV was updated to 4.3.

The strange thing is it goes all the way throuhg making the ipsw, then it asks me to plug it in. then it eventually opens itunes and restores the appletv and says it completed successfully. When I plug it back into my tv it looks like nothing but the current apple software. This is not my first time JB but first time with this software because I can not get greenpois0n to work either. any ideas????

Submitted by Anon on August 21, 2011 - 9:59pm

one more thought. I scoured teh forums for this issue and did not find it. What I did find was that the ipsw file was suppose to be in a specific location and I did not find it anywhere.

Submitted by can3rik on August 22, 2011 - 1:02am

dude, your problem sounds like, changed IP addresses after JB, check the NAS/computer IP and set it properly on your ATV2 . Check, clarify, and confirm.

Submitted by Anon on August 22, 2011 - 1:26am

I had this problem yesterday. If it says it's jailbroken successfully, it is. It just doesn't show it. All you need to do is install ATVflash black. This has been answered somewhere in here. But they really need to update the tutorials.

Submitted by Anon on August 22, 2011 - 3:03am

Leave your Apple TV plug into your tv and now you have to install "aTV Flash" software from your Pc or Mac !

aTV reboots still when trying to connect to a shared drive that has put itself to sleep.

I have the Airport Extreme Basestation with 2 2tb WD Elements plugged in via USB. These drives are notorious for going to sleep quickly (not adjustable) and taking 15-30 seconds to wake. If they are awake and have been active for any reason, the aTV connects to the share just fine and everything works as expected. However if time has lapsed with no activity (2 min?) and the drive spins down, attempting anything with the Mediaplayer results in the aTV showing 'Connecting' with the spinning logo --but never connects. Sometimes hitting menu to quickly back out and trying to connect again 3 or 4 times gets it connected, but it often either throws an error or reboots.

Is it possible to include a way to increase the timeout? (of course I'm assuming this is the issue, but its pretty clear the circumstance and it is repeatable).

Perhaps this is the cause of some other folks issues with NAS drives?

I tried as well to jailbreak the apple tv 2 but at the end of the update process through iTunes it comes with following error:
The Apple tv 'Apple TV' can not be restored. An unknown error has ocurred (2).

Apple tv was also not visible in iTunes any longer. When attached to the tv it wouldn't show. I had to restore via iTunes the original apple software. I then tried again to jailbreak, same result. Anybody an idea?

I got mine jailbroken. ( can SSH into it) but when I try to run ATV flash black it says its not jail broken?

Submitted by Anon on August 22, 2011 - 7:57pm

Thanks for the quick answers. Yes they do need to update the tuts. I will do a search on installing ATVflash black. NOWHERE on the site did it elude to needing to do this. I read the forums for about 6 hours over two days trying to find the answer because I hate asking stupid questions without doing my research first. If you know how/where to find or install ATVflash black a reply to this post may help others with the same isue.

Thanks again!

ok, after a little more reading (thanks for pointing me in the right direction!) I see that ATVflash black is software I need to purchase. I am ok with this, it appears that it is not available though until early fall the page says. I assume this means I am s.o.l until something is released for the newest firmware. Any thoughts anyone?

I tried jailbreaking using the newest version of seas0pass for 4.3 (8F455). However, I have firmware 4.3(2557), is this the same? Or am I using the wrong seas0npass? Please help! I got to the part where i get seas0npass to restore automatically and then I get Itunes Error 21 that it can't restore. What am I doing wrong?

I managed to get Season Pass installed on my 4.3 ATV... it surprised me that I could not see the Season Pass menu option at all but was able to ssh into it so it must be Jail broken.. right?

Mind you lots of issues installing plea and yet again no changes on the menu and still working on that...

The plan is to implement a cloud backup feature. This would allow you to easily backup your settings, metadata, watched history, etc... to a remote location, and restore them just as easily.

This feature should be available in the next release (RC1) which is coming in early September.
