It will run on iOS 4.2 - 4.3 untethered.

I'm assuming you're referring to iOS 5, which FireCore isn't the leading edge on that front. They have to wait until someone creates an untethered iOS 5 JB, of which there isn't one yet. Once one comes out, FireCore will update Seas0nPass to use new exploit.

Your guess is as good as mine when the first untethered iOS 5 JB will be.

Ethernet is faster than USB 2.0 anyways.

Submitted by Stingray88 on November 16, 2011 - 9:38pm

What audio codec is your media using? Do you have AC3/DTS passthrough enabled in the media player settings?

I have no problem with 5.1 AC3 audio in .mkv containers with ATV Flash.

Submitted by Stingray88 on November 16, 2011 - 9:39pm

Depends on what version of iOS you're running.

Submitted by Stingray88 on November 16, 2011 - 9:41pm

Install it over the old one.

Submitted by Stingray88 on November 16, 2011 - 9:45pm

They're entirely different things. If you wanted to keep untethered jailbreaking, you shouldn't have updated to iOS 5 and/or backed up your SHSH blobs so you could downgrade.

The thing is... FireCore doesn't find the exploits in iOS. Other developers do, and then FireCore creates Seas0nPass based on that exploit.

Currently there is no untethered JB for any iOS 5 device. Until someone else figures it out, you won't see a Seaso0nPass update.

In the mean time, they're going to work on ATV Flash, naturally.

Submitted by Stingray88 on November 16, 2011 - 9:47pm

Only tethered.

There is no untethered iOS 5 JB for any iOS device.

Submitted by Stingray88 on November 16, 2011 - 9:48pm

ATV Flash and Seas0nPass are not the same thing.

Can I stream directly from a web movies with the browser ?

Submitted by vu2cpl on November 16, 2011 - 10:01pm

Hi James,

Congrats on release, but when i try installing 1.0 from my Mac, it says ATV2 is not jailbroken. I was running 1.0 rc ( so of course it was JB). But when I try to jailbreak again, it says apple server is not responding.... Any pointers?

Thanks in advance...

All working as it should now.... I was trying to update the wrong device.....:)

my bad.....

congrats and thanks a lot....

same with me. but i use a wired connection. no probs at all.
if there would just a filename parsing for video files (like it is for tv series).

Submitted by Anon on November 16, 2011 - 11:10pm

It says in the FAQ that Seas0npass is required, please read it.

Submitted by Anon on November 16, 2011 - 11:41pm

When is a VPN client available on ATV 2? Living abroad and want to whatch my home channels.

Submitted by mosciszko on November 16, 2011 - 11:58pm

I don't think the aTV Flash software would update the apple tv.. Its just a program for the aTV

The newest software is tethered so there really isn't a no hassle way..

Submitted by onath on November 17, 2011 - 12:22am

Please add a choice to adjust subtitle position. The subtitles are still too way in the bottom of the screen that some lower case letters like y,g,p,q are only half-visible. Please try to fix this.  A video calibration will be good too. Thanks.

Is there support for last.fm outside the US already???

I purchased this quite a while back and was very dissapointed that it didn't do last.fm in The Netherlands. I Would like to know this as I'm not going to install the software again without being sure.

Really pitty they didn't tell that fact before i bought it...

Submitted by timd.4762 on November 17, 2011 - 12:39am

Odd. I'm using a wired connection - and I've tried huge uncompressed blu-ray rips on other machines (WD Live and a PS3) and it's fine, so it's not

a bandwidth issue. The judders are subtle - but once you've seen them it's impossible to not notice them.  You say you stream 1080p - what sizes are your files?

Submitted by Tom Fransen on November 17, 2011 - 1:07am

Hello James,

Very good work!!! I mostly like the ability to play .flac files now and mounting .iso images.

Any chance that future upgrades will contain 24-bit flac support and maybe even multichannel flac support?

The only phenomenon i see is that with certain .avi files audio and video keep out of sync and this increases during time.

Would that be better if i use a fixed connection instead of wireless?

Submitted by Anon on November 17, 2011 - 1:09am

No, Video playback judder is a major turn off for me.........
I use PS3 more because off that

Big thank you for this update this looks great looking forward to upcoming updates.

Submitted by tinyhunter on November 17, 2011 - 4:48am

I second this too. Not sure what people are crying about? Any smb connected drive works fine, the 1.0 installed easy, aTV Flash and Seas0npass are not the same.. If people can not see the difference, than they should not play around with these things.

I use XMBC and aTV Flash and I am very happy.

Good job guys!

Submitted by andrewm.21588 on November 17, 2011 - 5:28am

Yes I know about the Flash software process.

I was more concerned that I would need to wait for an update to Seas0nPass to ensure an untethered jailbreak... :(

Submitted by arniebeticon on November 17, 2011 - 5:49am

I am unable to play my FLAC files. why? :(

Submitted by Stingray88 on November 17, 2011 - 6:41am

Largest I've tried was an 18GB 3 hour movie. Didn't see any problems.

Submitted by Anon on November 17, 2011 - 7:53am

I would probably buy this if there was support for VPN i.e. strong vpn.

Submitted by tbm on November 17, 2011 - 8:38am

Photo support is still limited... How on earth do you rotate a photo? What about autorotate?

Some AVI files are still not playable (moves made with a canon pocket camera).

I am very pleased with the other features of the media player :)

Submitted by james on November 17, 2011 - 8:55am

We're hoping to add this in a future version.

Submitted by james on November 17, 2011 - 8:56am

HTML5 video streaming is supported, but unfortunately Adobe Flash and Silverlight are not.

Submitted by 180 on November 17, 2011 - 8:58am

thanks for your reply.

yes, i have enabled both :(

i am taking it back. when disabling dts it works perfect. thanks again for your help!!

Submitted by james on November 17, 2011 - 8:58am

Do you know the framerate of these videos? A lot of video cameras are recording at ~60 FPS which is just too much for the ATV to handle.

If you want to send in a sample file we can take a look.

Submitted by james on November 17, 2011 - 9:03am

Sorry, looks like there were a few cases the reset missed.

Should be fixed now.

Submitted by james on November 17, 2011 - 9:04am

Yes - go ahead and run the 1.0 installer on top of your current setup. No settings or other info will be lost.

Huh?  I am still able to select any photo album from iTunes/iPhoto, and I am running ATV Flash 1.0.  This isn't even a function of ATVFlash, it's built into the AppleTV's OS itself.  In iTunes' Advanced menu, there is a "Choose Photos to Share" option.  Select that and the check off the iPhoto albums you'd like to be available to your AppleTV.  Any albums you'd previously created in iPhoto (excluding any RSS-enabled "Photo Feeds," unfortunately) are eligible to be displayed on the AppleTV.  Once you check them off there, you can go to the AppleTV's screensaver settings and choose the one you want.

That being said, there is also a "Screensaver Settings" add-on you can download in NitoTV.  Apparently it offers some sort of "custom control of Screensavers." I had installed it once but didn't quite understand what it added... perhaps the ability to load photos directly from /var/root of the AppleTV? I'm not sure, and had uninstalled it long ago. Regardless, I just tried it again, reinstalling to see what it's all about --and didn't notice any change in the Screensaver menu after a reboot. (I'm still running iOS 4.3.) So I uninstalled it again.

Back to your original question, unless something's gone seriously wrong with your AppleTV software, you should be able to select any photo album from iTunes/iPhoto as a screensaver. And this is a stock feature of the OS. I suppose it's possible that ATVFlash (or the aforementioned "Screensaver Settings" hack) has broken it in some way for you... I'm just saying that it hasn't broken it for me, and I suspect that's the case for many others too.

Submitted by Fofer on November 17, 2011 - 9:41am

Thanks James.  I bit the bullet and did the upgrade to 1.0. No hassles at all, went well on both of my AppleTV's.  Then I went into the maintenance menu and downloaded the updated components.  Much appreciated!  You guys are doing great work.

Submitted by t-bat on November 17, 2011 - 10:18am

Could you plan for adding the Spotify-App anytime soon? (Or maybe App support in general) Thanks!

Submitted by Anon on November 17, 2011 - 10:37am

Still no support for M4V subtitles. XBMC is the best choice +free.

Submitted by rifflekb on November 17, 2011 - 11:17am

I have Mac OS 10.7.2 and SeasOn Pass 0.7.9 and it worked. I did have to reboot when trying to begin the install because of a hang, but after that it worked flawlessly.

Anyone know which countries Last.fm will work! When will it work in Norway?

Thanks in advance!!

Submitted by james on November 17, 2011 - 12:41pm

Currently Last.fm is only available in: Australia, Canada, Germany, New Zealand, UK and US. Sorry.

Submitted by james on November 17, 2011 - 12:42pm

No auto-rotate just yet.

Do you know the framerate your camera records at? Many cameras default to ~60 FPS, which is just too much for the AppleTV to handle.

Submitted by Anon on November 17, 2011 - 12:49pm

When I try to ATV 1.0 install, I am told that my AppleTV is not jailbroken. Both AppleTVs run with the latest IOS and aTV Flash RC1 ... Any idea?

Submitted by Anon on November 17, 2011 - 1:05pm

How do i upgrade to the latest version then, cheers

For AppleTV owners, atv Flash (black) v1.0 is the best $30 you will spend on any piece of software this year. Full Stop. A short review of atv from a new user and huge kudos to Firecore -- you made my AppleTV super happy!

Submitted by tbm on November 17, 2011 - 1:45pm

OK - I'll wait for the auto-rotate feature then:).

The AVI's my Canon camera makes are 30fps. 640x480px, audio is 16 bit PCM.

Any clue?

In order to update from Beta/RC1 to 1.0 you will need to run the 1.0 installer from a Mac or PC.
