Agreed.  I can't freaking stand this tethered startup crap.  Enormous hassle.

Submitted by tomo.8179 on December 22, 2011 - 1:15pm

I had 1.1.1-2 installed and working on my ATV, but after upgrading through Maintenance (which was taking forever, I ended it, then 20sec later it said "Installed"...but it was still 1.1.1-2) and then through my Mac, it still says version 1.1.1-2...what's up with this?

Submitted by tbm on December 22, 2011 - 1:18pm

I have the same issue. Can not update through "manage extras" menu. Running installer from PC does only install the new "maintenance" the media player is not updated.

Submitted by Anon on December 22, 2011 - 1:19pm

DVR-MS support is a huge bonus. Many thanks for that nice surprise.

Submitted by GoPronto on December 22, 2011 - 1:25pm

hi just went through every page , took a while, but now every page loads inabout 3 seconds , which is very acceptable ,

Great work guys , keep it up

and have a few beers over christmas Smile

Thanks for the update!
What about displaying movies in subfolders? Right now i have a single
movie in one folder so the Media Player displays only folder icons instead of cover art and the Movie description on the Top level
Am I doing anything wrong or is this not implemented yet?

Submitted by Stingray88 on December 22, 2011 - 1:27pm

No. That is a hardware limitation of the AppleTV. It can not be fixed through software.

Submitted by Stingray88 on December 22, 2011 - 1:30pm

FireCore isn't working on that. The person on the forefront of that development is Pod2G, a french hacker a part of the Chronic Dev team.

Don't complain about that here.

Submitted by Stingray88 on December 22, 2011 - 1:32pm

It will be very soon that we get an Untethered JB. Pod2G of the Chronic Dev team is almost ready to release what he's got. FireCore will update Seas0nPass after that.

Any plans for FTP support?

Submitted by arnow.2638 on December 22, 2011 - 1:37pm

PLease!!! Make your Media Player available at the APP Store and I'll BUY IT!!!

Is also possible to add the DNLA protocol to the media player?

Submitted by james on December 22, 2011 - 1:38pm

Support for folder based organization is planned for a future version. Hopefully soon.

Submitted by Anon on December 22, 2011 - 1:39pm

Great stuff Smile
But can you please work on playing purchased movies on iTunes (DRM) on atv?

Submitted by james on December 22, 2011 - 1:40pm

Yes, FTP streaming is planned for a future version. No ETA just yet though.

Submitted by james on December 22, 2011 - 1:40pm

You can check the version info through the Maintenacne --> About menu.

As long as it shows version 1.1.1, and no items say 'Update' in the Maintenance --> Manage Extras menu, you are running the latest version.

Submitted by james on December 22, 2011 - 1:42pm

DLNA support is planned for a future version. Stay tuned.

I'm already purchase this software and I'll update today and I have a question, can I connect and play files from a external drive with this version? I didn't find any documentation about this...
Thank you by the updates !

Submitted by james on December 22, 2011 - 2:05pm

Unfortunately USB drives are not supported on the new black AppleTV. Sorry.

Submitted by yum9me on December 22, 2011 - 2:24pm

Thanks for implementing files that are 90% viewed are now marked as watched. It will make my Media Player experience that little bit better.

Do you have a page that we can look at to see what features you plan to have later and features that you don't or are not technically possible? I see a lot of people asking for the same features and having this would be a good way of letting people know what you're working on. What would be even better is a way for the community to vote on what features we see as more important so you can put priority on different things, but maybe that's asking for too much. Tongue

Still getting bad URL all the time any ideas

Submitted by Anon on December 22, 2011 - 2:36pm

is there any possibility to tweak the audio settings? AFAIK ATV2 is reconverting all audio to 48kHz!
Best would be that it outputs the audio files in their original sample rate!
Is there any hope for that?

How can I delete movies after I've looked at it? The films are on my NAS and after I've looked like a movie, then I delete them, without the PC for this turn

Submitted by joujeh on December 22, 2011 - 3:26pm

Please make couch surfer browser loads faster. It is great to have but it loads slower than expected. What is the limitation???.?

Submitted by drmacman on December 22, 2011 - 3:35pm

You may already be aware of this and it's more of a work-around than anything else, but by connecting an external USB drive to my Airport Extreme, I was able to access the media files stored on it. Under the AppleTV 2 menu item MEDIA are two sub-menus (My FIles, Settings). They allow you to configure the USB drive attached to the Airport Extreme, and play content thru the AppleTV without using iTunes. Most files play normally, however protected files will not.

Submitted by Anon on December 22, 2011 - 3:55pm

Isn't that the functionality already there. i.e. the original purpose of the ATV...without modification?

Submitted by glandix on December 22, 2011 - 4:00pm

Wonderful work as always!  aTV Flash now has every single feature I've wanted ... anything from here on out is purely icing on the cake ... thank you so much for making this little black box worth way more than I paid for it! Smile

Submitted by autoy on December 22, 2011 - 4:09pm

That's a hard one, as they'd have to reverse engineer the DRM and that is a big no-no for Apple.

Submitted by autoy on December 22, 2011 - 4:10pm

That's right, obviously.

Submitted by glandix on December 22, 2011 - 4:20pm

Thank you for not complaining about the tethered boot ... I've been running it for a while now and I've only ONCE had to do actually hard-boot the thing (when I was moving around power cords and had to unplug it) ... otherwise, I only ever have to do soft boots, which don't require the tether Smile

Submitted by SnakeMM1 on December 22, 2011 - 4:41pm

There are no downloads showing in my account. Any idea why ?

Submitted by zekewildflower on December 22, 2011 - 4:56pm

I like the updates!!!

Firstly, you rock! aTV flash is the main reason why I bought Apple TV Smile Keep going.

Secondly, I have some troubles/ideas to share.

1. The hole interface is not localized. Can I help you to make Polish localization? It would be great to use it in my language..
2. I have lot .iso files which are DVD rips. Each one weigh over 6GB. Your player plays them, but every few seconds the sound fades per second. Image is not jammed. A bit annoying. Working on the stability of this?
3. I have to turn off Apple TV only to watch normal television via cable and antenna. I have only 1 HDMI port so it really annoying to switch cables. Is it physically possible to connect a simple DVB-T tuner (eg EyeTV) via USB to Apple TV and watch normal TV? That would be the peak of dreams:) If it is physically possible, will you think of this functionality? Have you been testing something in this topic? My TV does not have DVB-T tuner so scheming how to watch digital TV on my Apple TV ..

Submitted by Anon on December 22, 2011 - 5:03pm

On my Time Capsule I have structure like this:

-TV Shows

1. So.. It would be great to have option to point at folder when you are having your all TV shows. And then when your player will analyze everything to create a main TV Shows folder. And it will display all the available Shows with beautiful covers, descriptions of shows, etc. When you click on a particular TV Show it will show seasons with descriptions. I mean the creation and management interface only for TV Shows. A powerful but simple and well thought out Smile It could work like original Tv Shows menu from Apple or even with option to replace oryginal one.
2. Option to make main folder for Movies. The same as with TV shows. Interface for all movies and option to replace original one from main manu.

What you thing?

Why has the option to stop Apple Auto-update been removed from the latest versions i.e 1.1 & 1.1.1. Having the Apple update screen coming up all the time is annoying.

Submitted by Anon on December 22, 2011 - 5:54pm

Any plan for smi subtitle format?

Submitted by Laz on December 22, 2011 - 6:04pm

Yes, that's vertually what I've done but with a Drobo system that has 8tb of capacity.
But I do have one issue, and that is that my TS video files (I only playback that format) don't play back smoothly on the ATV2, but
it's got nothing to do with the Drobo or the WiFi, I'm sure it's the software as it has come and gone with various versions from Firecore updates for the ATV1 and it's never been right on the ATV2 and I've reinstallemantis times to try and fix it. The puzzling thing is that no body else seems to report this problem. Am I the only one?

Submitted by Potshot Loki on December 22, 2011 - 6:31pm

If you mean the USB port on the aTV2 itself, I believe they have stated already that the USB port can't be used for such a thing due to an artificial limit apple put on it. I could be wrong, I just think they have already said it. I would recommend an HDMI selector and you can get them sort of cheap from monoprice.com. I use one and it is awesome. read the reviews, many have super laser like LED's.

great thanks a lot keep up and happy holidays for those who still have problem downgrading or restoring i already told you what must be done this software is top notch, seams like some of you cant folow intructions the best thing thing is as i said before check on youtube i understand your frustration and i wasn't born smarter than you but tru videos and tutorials, trial and error i manage to do it.so can you, stop blaming the software or the instructions. until you fuly master the concept of restoring and updating and fix the errors that come with itunes when the host file has been chaged either by third party software or by accident, like for instance when you choose cydia servers while jailbreaking with seasonpass. dont even bother jailbreaking. if you understand what i mean then youtube and google will help you acomplish the jailbreak successfully. if you canot grasp anything i mention here then you better off using your idevice as it came or sell it and pick bananas from the supermarket. James, has anyone checked if this new update 1.11 was compatable with IceFilms? as I have NOT been able to get on it since I updated my ATV2 this morning. All I've been doing all afternoon is rebooting my ATV2 with no success. My friend does NOT have ATV Flash Black installed on his, and he is able to open his IceFilms.
