Yeah, no German ... too sad ;(

Submitted by Macusercom on February 8, 2012 - 12:44pm

I'm so sorry, but because of the changes the FireCore team made, as james mentioned before, we had to translate around 50 more strings and check them. Yes, the German translation was done, but there were still many mistakes! Steve and I will finish the strings today, so I think they will be included in a smaller update as soon as the FireCore team includes them. Don't worry guys!

Great, thanks for the info James!

Now that you mention it, I think it doesn't actually work to put it into true sleep. In my experience, when switching between them the display stays asleep until i press a button after the remote finishes transition to the state. *shrug* it works well enough for me not to mind Smile

Mine is also stuck in a boot loop, without Plex installed. Coincidentally, the same thing happened with the previous upgrade. Both times, I happened to be using the box, and both times it went wiggy shortly before receiving an email announcing an update. I'm sensing a pattern...

Is there an SSH command to kill the loop, or do I have to restore, re-jailbreak & re install again?

Submitted by Anon on February 8, 2012 - 12:50pm

I worked on the translations and all were promised a free code for their help. Thusfar I have got nothing from FireCore.

It seems that this new feature doesn't work with folders containing two or more movie files, does it? For exmaple I have a folder called '2012' with '2012 - CD 1.avi' and '2012 - CD 2.avi' in it. The first issue is, that the grid view displays the folders with more than one movie file at the top, and than the folders containing only one movie file follow. And the second issue is, that both files in my '2012' folder are shown as '2012' and display the movie information when opening them. Is this the correct behavious? But all in all, I love the new folder feature, great job!

Glad to see speed of updates.  Unfortunately, streaming of videos is still VERY slow for me.  Media Player takes forever to launch a movie, then will play for 10 seconds and spend the next 30 seconds buffering.  Also, are there any plans in the work to improve the UI for music? On my install it behaves like movies, including an "unwatched" tab.

I would love to see subtitle support as in Filename.la.srt
where
la= language (en = english, es= spanish, fr= french) et al.

This is just like XBMC supports them, so this will be amazing

Thank you for upgrading Smile

Submitted by james on February 8, 2012 - 12:58pm

This was added in this version. :)

"Added support for multiple external subtitles (movie.en.srt, movie.de.srt, etc...)"

Media Player will also support the normal movie.srt name formatting as well.

Submitted by ton on February 8, 2012 - 12:58pm

Heaven forbid. I would have to change all my subtitles. Anyway, Xbmc accepts 'filename.srt' so that should suffice.

How about an option to disable the sub-options within a main menu? There are several options I don't, and never will use within the "Internet" menu. I'd like to disable them (like I can with a few of the highest level menu options), so I don't have to scroll through things I don't/won't use to get to the ones I do.

Are you running the latest 4.4.4 AppleTV software?

Submitted by james on February 8, 2012 - 1:00pm

Only single file movies are supported for now.

This will be improved in a future version.

After the update I am stuck in the continuous restart loop as mentioned before. Yes I probably have the new Plex installed.

Can someone direct me to how I can stop the restart loop and uninstall plex?

Thanks.

Would it be possible that when you play a series or film, will be automatically downloaded the subtitle open subtitles or other service?
Thank you!

PD: I would change some words in the spanish translate, for example "Reproductor" instead of "Contenido"

Any word on when Plex 9.5 wil be supported

Submitted by Anon on February 8, 2012 - 1:07pm

Still to many bugs to even bother trying. When I see playback isn't an issue anymore with anyone then maybe it will be worth a try.

Submitted by Anon on February 8, 2012 - 1:12pm

Hi I have the same problem but resolved when going to the Media Player Playback properties, reduce the size of the data, this won't affect the quality of the image. I sued 4.0 one or 2 after the Ipad option. I don't have any more the issue and plays as well as playing a movie purchased in the apple catalogue, I hope this works for you.

Submitted by mattdehat on February 8, 2012 - 1:13pm

i flashed eden BETA LATEST no plex installed

Submitted by Anon on February 8, 2012 - 1:13pm

I have been using this for about 7 months...since beta version. I have yet to have any significant playback errors. I stream movies from a 2tb Timecapsule. Give it a try!

Submitted by Anon on February 8, 2012 - 1:17pm

Cannot get BluRay rips to play without constant buffering. I am streaming over gigabit ethernet. Am I doing something wrong?

Submitted by hrvojep.7565 on February 8, 2012 - 1:23pm

I can't say I am satisfied with the new firmware. As a former Boxee user I expected much more than that. aTV doesn't recognize samples and crops from movies as Boxee does, aTV can't recognized TV shows and doesn't separate them in seasons. Instead to have a list of movies I still have folders (why do I need folders????, this is a media player not a file server). There is no auto subtitle search on the Internet as Boxee has, there is no subtitle shifting if a subtitle is not synced with a movie. For 30 US$ you should do a better job.

Hi, will there be a direct support for eyetv netstream in a future version? I dont find something about eyetv.

Best Regards

Submitted by Anon on February 8, 2012 - 1:32pm

Where are these "Media Player Playback properties" you mention? I don't see anything like this in the settings for Media Player, or is it somewhere else? Thanks

Submitted by robertirani@rob... on February 8, 2012 - 1:35pm

I think that is a bit harsh, I dont see you writing any code to help ? Some of your comments show you have no idea. . My TV Shows arent in folders, and they work beaut !!

How about suggestions, Firecore are open to suggestions. . . .

What is $30.00 ? Most people spill that between the bar and the table at the pub each round. .

These blokes have done a stellar job with this, keep up the good work.

Also, I need to add, I will get a playback error maybe one in every 150 movies. . and it is usually some crap movie that I didnt want to watch anyway.

Keep up the good work !

Submitted by robertirani@rob... on February 8, 2012 - 1:36pm

I dont get playback errors that cause a problem. Dont be a tight arse pay the coin and review for yourself !

Submitted by Anon on February 8, 2012 - 1:37pm

It just keeps getting better! Thanks for the update!

Submitted by Anon on February 8, 2012 - 1:39pm

Same here... playback runs fine (Airport Extreme 5th Gen + 3TB HD + ATV2 LFW)

Will aTV flash ever be able to read embedded metadata in the file and only fetch when it is missing?

Submitted by adamw.3310 on February 8, 2012 - 1:47pm

Ditto

Submitted by grbillion on February 8, 2012 - 1:51pm

What about access to my Hulu Plus account and content? Hulu is the only thing that my Apple TV is missing. I know I can use Hulu through XBMC, but I don't want to have to load a whole different media player to just use Hulu. What's the holdup in getting Hulu supported?

Submitted by Anon on February 8, 2012 - 1:54pm

Sorry, my mistake this is for Plex, which has this Playback property to change the file streaming size. The current Plex version soon will work as well as the original Apple application.

Submitted by lucdesaulniers on February 8, 2012 - 1:54pm

Great. Good work. Still have some issues:

Plex is creating restart OR it comes from other sources. When I navigate the main menu (Movies, TV, INternet, etc), it has the tendency to suddenly reboot. Second, although I have just about every posts on this issue, Flash doesn't work on the Coach surfer.

Also, the previous ATV1 version, I was able to install Firefox (was a choice in the app install), not the case with the ATV2 version.

Hi:
Still waiting for external hard drive support.

Ever going to happen?

Thanks.

Submitted by Fofer on February 8, 2012 - 2:03pm

What does it mean by "Added automated firmware signature backups"

Does this mean they are automatically updated?  Or do we have to manually go into the Maintenance -> Settings -> Backups menu to invoke it?

Submitted by Anon on February 8, 2012 - 2:05pm

Preach!!

Submitted by Anon on February 8, 2012 - 2:05pm

No.
The ATV2 USB port cannot host hard drives. This cannot be fixed, hacked, tweaked or anything else.

I had a similar problem of Plex re-starting every 60 seconds. I found it was due to deleting a server source that Plex was still trying to populate the top shelf from. Here is a link you may find helpful.

What's "new" about it?  Just curious.

I've been using AppleTV with my Logitech Harmony already, before this update.

Ditto!  I asked a few questions about menu control before I ordered and I was told I could customize them.  Well that is true you can customize some.  I want total control to set what shows up or not.  I love that I have more control than the base code from Apple.

I know this has great commercial application to control all menu items /options!;)

Keep the updates coming.

Another plug for HULU.

"The current Plex version soon will work as well as the original Apple application."  I'm not sure I understand this comment.  Will we soon be able to use the native Apple Media Player and have it talk directly to the NAS?  That would be heaven.
