Today we are happy to release a brand new version of Seas0nPass that provides an untethered jailbreak of the latest 5.0.1 (iOS 5.1.1) software for the 2nd gen Apple TV. Massive thanks goes to @pod2g and Co. for the countless hours that went into making this new release possible.

Update 6/6: Seas0nPass has been updated to support the new 5.0.2 Apple TV software.

What about the new 3rd gen Apple TV?

Unfortunately Seas0nPass is not yet compatible with the new ATV3. Work is still ongoing and we'll be sure to announce any and all news as soon as it becomes available. Be sure to follow us on Twitter, Facebook and Google+ for up to the minute info.

Which plugins are currently supported on 5.0.1?

When it starts in iTunes I unplug the power cable for 3sec then pluged it back in but iTunes take a bit of time so just let it run

Submitted by Anon on May 26, 2012 - 2:30pm

U talkin about the power cable or the usb cable?

Submitted by Anon on May 26, 2012 - 3:38pm

After the upgrade, screen savor will start even during video play.

When I did my jailbreak, whether it is a cheap usb cable or my usb port is not powerful enough, either way I had to plug in the power cord and the USB cable when SeasonPass asked to plug in just the USB cable to enter DFU mode. I got only a slow flash until I held PLAY and MENU for 7 seconds, then it flashed rapidly. I held them again for 7 seconds and it recognized the DFU and iTunes opened. I then left the power and USB plugged in until the jailbreak was finished. iTunes gave a 1601 error at the very end of the restore, but it didn't matter. Unplugged both power and USB, and took it to the TV and hooked up to HDMI. All is well, Firecore icon there. Installing Firecore required two attempts after hanging for a while, as mentioned elsewhere, try using ethernet connection instead of wifi. It then installed in a matter of seconds. Had errors trying to install Media Player as well over wifi, plugged into ethernet, and it installed immediately. Hope this helps some others.

doesn't work for me.

everything works fine (or at least seems to work fine) when "installing" it.

but when i boot it up theres no "seas0npass-settings", theres only the regular settings-menu but the "box" for settings have an fire core-logo with red background. but when entering the settings its just the non-jailbroken-settings so theres no way of installing media player and such. anyone got any clues of what might be wrong?

and yes, I've got the latest version of seas0npass (can't even press the boot thetered without getting a message saying theres no need for that)

Okay I had exact same problem. This is how I fixed it. Xbmc is not actually installed. Do another jailbreak and shsh nitotv. Then to load xbmc follow this link
takes some time but works like a dream installing xbmc.

Well done guys - installation worked like a charm first time. This gets easier and easier with every release.

Thanks again for your hard work.

Any chance of a VPN making an appearance or a dedicated audio player for lossless files ?

Submitted by Anon on May 26, 2012 - 6:12pm

Not everything requires atv flash. For instance, you can install XBMC after Seas0npass, without atv flash.

Submitted by Anon on May 26, 2012 - 6:16pm

you installed ATV flash after you installed the SeasonPass? After ATV flash is installed, you would see a "Maintenance" icon and you will be able to instal media player from there. Not from the Settings.

Look like dropbox has shutdown the link to the XBMC package ( Does anyone know where to get this package some place else?

Submitted by Anon on May 26, 2012 - 7:34pm

This is freakin TETHERED jailbreak is NOT untethered,

Submitted by Anon on May 26, 2012 - 8:14pm

LOL! And that's based on what? I am assuring you it's untethered.

Submitted by Anon on May 26, 2012 - 8:20pm

I don't get it... why would you even download it from anywhere else but directly from MAINTENANCE section of SeasOnPass? I just installed it without a single problem. Here is my proof: - and here:

After the update and the new SeasonPass Jailbrake my APF connection fails. The ATV can't connect to my Drobo HD that is connected to my AirportExtreme. Please help. All my media files are on that HD. Thanx

Submitted by nmbrg on May 27, 2012 - 2:53am

lol. i feel pretty damn stupid now :D

i completely forgot to install atv flash haha. :(

just did the jailbreak and then nothing..

i must have been seriously tired last night forgetting such a simple thing.

Submitted by nmbrg on May 27, 2012 - 3:05am

do you know if the "settings-restore" from the cloud installs apps aswell? (like xbmc and all settings/libraries)

so i don't need to go thru the process of adding all movies/tv-shows and such again and change all the settings.

Submitted by thebrainstormman on May 27, 2012 - 3:27am

I installed the update without any problem, but whoever that is trying to get the update on atv2, needs to get the latest atv may 10 update from apple. To get the media player working you need to restart your atv then proceed with the installation though depending on your internet connection speed, you may need to wait a little while for the installation to get downloaded and installed. Good work Firecore team

Submitted by Anon on May 27, 2012 - 3:34am

i m getting the error: '.deb' is not known on line 1 in source list /etc/apt/sources.list.d/xbmc.list

Any ideAs

Submitted by Anon on May 27, 2012 - 6:54am

Install latest update directly from Apple. Restore your Apple TV2 completely. Then jailbreak it with latest SeasOnPass. It works like a charm. Not a single error on my end. ATV Flash Black and XBMC running like a boss. Navi-X and SuperTV work without a glitch here.

Submitted by Anon on May 27, 2012 - 6:56am

You don't need any external download links. Install ATV Flash Black and install XBMC directly from MAINTENANCE section. Works without single problem. Even SuperTV and NAVI-X work perfect.

Great work FireCore team.... Just finished jailbreaking 5 during the weekend and everyone loves it.... Looking forward to hearing about the 3rd Gen.... as I am ready to purchase many licenses and hook people out here in Japan (military).

Great Work!! No issues on my side.. Everything went smoothly. Thanks.

Submitted by curt on May 27, 2012 - 12:23pm

Awesome, thanks for this.  I couldn't use iReb (it's windows only and I'm on OS X), but I did download redsn0w to put the Apple TV in Pwned DFU mode, then restored the ipsw that seas0npass created in iTunes and voila!  I still got a 1602 error at the end but it did work.

Submitted by Anon on May 27, 2012 - 5:57pm

I am getting the same error did you get it working

Submitted by camdeblussier on May 27, 2012 - 8:30pm

Can't install XBMC from maintenance screen, install fail, all the other extra's work.  Any ideas?

Submitted by curt on May 27, 2012 - 8:57pm

I used redsn0w to put the apple tv into Pwned DFU mode, then manually restored the seas0npass-generated IPSW through itunes (using alt+click on the restore button).  It gave me a 1602 error at the end, but it did indeed work. Hope this helps!

Submitted by Anon on May 28, 2012 - 8:35am

Worked for me, thanks!

Submitted by prestonm.7248 on May 28, 2012 - 10:32am

Device will not enter dfu mode.  After following each set of instructions listed in the troubleshooting guide, I cannot get passed the DFU mode screen on the latest version of Seas0nPass.  Why the hell is putting the ATV2 in DFU mode so difficult?

Great job Team!!

Super fast JB!

Submitted by tims.4020 on May 28, 2012 - 4:08pm

Brilliant so far with only small hiccup, Had errors to start off with, but a restore from Apple first and then follow the instructions worked a treat.

aTV Flash installed well but first restart only Computers and FC ( settings ) were visible. reset and all Apple icons appeared and working.

XBMC tested OK and all worked, however again after going back to screen only XBMC, Weather, Maintenance, Settings and Computers are showing.

Have sent diag report to assist.

I'm having the same problem with Windows. I tried three different computers -- a desktop with Win 7 64bit, a notebook with win 7 32 bit and another notebook with Win XP and Seas0npass will not load on any of them! Any idea anyone, please? it's driving me crazy.

My easiest install so far. Thank you, Thank you!

Restore, Jailbreak (SeasonPass v0.8.5) and aTV (v1.5.1) install all work fine, and without error, but I don't get the Maintenance menu.  Any ideas?

Submitted by ctyrider on May 29, 2012 - 8:16pm

Seas0nPass Mac version doesn't work. I consistently get iTunes 2100 error - 3 different ATVs, same error. Running latest release of Lion.

Finally got all 3 units jailbroken using Windows 7 laptop. Took two attempts each time - first time the iTunes gets stuck in "Preparing Apple TV for Restore" state.

Submitted by larryk.84676 on May 29, 2012 - 8:18pm

I had one problem once everything was installed, I could not login to my iTunes  store account with the update, once I restore it to the original Apple TV  I was able to login. What can I do once the update is installed to get into my itunes  store account.

Itunes keeps saying "Apple TV can not be restored because the firmware is not compatible" I've jail-broken many times before with no problems, so I'm not a rookie to doing this, Can someone help plz It's a ATV2 running 5.0.1 (iOS 5.1.1) software

Submitted by Anon on May 29, 2012 - 10:49pm

Connect usb cord to comp and apple tv, then connect power cord to apple tv for 1-2 secs -- you will see it intermittently blinking and now you can press menu and pause/play for 7 secs which will show rapid flashing. Works everytime... goodluck

Submitted by Anon on May 29, 2012 - 10:50pm

forgot to mention to unplug the power cord after you've plugged it in for 1 - 2 secs.

Submitted by Anon on May 29, 2012 - 11:16pm

so currently there's no way to hide any of the top row icons? such as Movies or TV Shows so that the Media icon can be up there and show previously watched content in the top drawer? I saw a screenshot of adding it to the top without removing any icons (putting 6 in the top row) is this possible?

Submitted by rodneyw.4502 on May 29, 2012 - 11:32pm

I used Seas0npass today using my MacBook Air running latest lion software without any problems.

Submitted by Anon on May 30, 2012 - 1:18am

my itunes was saying the same on 3 of my apple tvs i just unpluged them and pluged them in to my tv and they all had the firecore icon so it did work so have a go with yours

Is anyone having trouble running Seas0npass on Windows in the sense that when double-clicking on the exe file nothing comes up? I downloaded the program several times with the same result. I also tried running it on 3 different computers with Win 7 32 and 64-bit and XP but the result was the same. The only error message I got once was to the effect that I needed to install .NET framework 4.0 which I did not have on my XP but once I installed this nothing else happens. The program will not even show that it is loading. Can someone please suggest a solution for I really would like to update my ATV2 to the latest jailbroken version.
