I wonder if Apple realise that if they make the products to hard to jailbreak fewer people will buy them?

Submitted by timh.1497 on June 1, 2012 - 12:55pm

Wake On LAN!! Woo!

Note: Not sarcasm! I've been looking for a media player box that does WOL for soooo long.

Submitted by Anon on June 1, 2012 - 12:56pm

Same. I have no idea what happened. Are you using Apple TV 2, 4.2.2 as well?

Submitted by jojo280 on June 1, 2012 - 12:58pm

"Resolved issues with incorrect metadata for files with '<TVShow Name>/S01E0.avi' pattern", don't work for me :(

Submitted by Anon on June 1, 2012 - 1:03pm

Did you fix the issue that the ATV hangs when trying to play .dvdmedia files?

Submitted by Anon on June 1, 2012 - 1:04pm

On 4.4.4 and XBMC just crashes after atv flash 1.6 update.

Submitted by micjes on June 1, 2012 - 1:04pm

Submitted by Anon on June 1, 2012 - 1:08pm

It gets better and better. Only thing missing is symlinks/alias.

Submitted by Jmhthefirst on June 1, 2012 - 1:13pm

On 4.4.4, ATV Flash 1.6 and now XBMC just crashes.  Any tips?

Submitted by james on June 1, 2012 - 1:21pm

We've actually not had any reports of .dvdmedia file issues.

Try installing the new version and let us know if you have any trouble.

Submitted by Anon on June 1, 2012 - 1:21pm

Why dont you just call this Media player update.

Please focus on other plugins too

Submitted by james on June 1, 2012 - 1:22pm

Hmmm, can you send in a bug report?

Submitted by apollocntv on June 1, 2012 - 1:23pm

I have 5.01 on ATV 2 and just updated to ATV Flash 1.6 and also the new version of Media Player. Now XBMC crashes and never runs. Nice to have this running for the weekend.

How can we fix this or revert back to old version. Will removing media player make any difference to XBMC.

This option is available in the Subtitles section of the Playback Menu.

Submitted by james on June 1, 2012 - 1:27pm

Ensure the proper iTunes login is setup on the Apple TV, then simply select the file you wish to play through the Media menu.

No special setup required. :)

Submitted by james on June 1, 2012 - 1:27pm

Would you mind sending in a bug report so we can get to the bottom of it?

Submitted by james on June 1, 2012 - 1:28pm

This allows purchased iTunes content to be played through the Media menu, whereas before you had to switch to the Computers menu for iTunes content.

Submitted by james on June 1, 2012 - 1:30pm

You can hide the Movies, TV Shows or Music menus through the Settings --> General --> Parental Controls menu. Hiding at least one of these menus will allow Media to move up to the top row.

Advanced browsing and sort features coming soon...

does it play "TS-HD-Files2 ?

Submitted by Anon on June 1, 2012 - 1:45pm

yes, 4.2.2 (2203)

Submitted by carltonburr on June 1, 2012 - 1:57pm

Thanks for the update went real smooth. Checking on the update for the deinterlacing option. I can know play SD MPEG 2 movies great, but not Blu-ray MPEG 2 or VC-1. It tries to play but crashes after a a couple of seconds.

I also noticed that it does not show up on all movies, i tried a couple of MPEG 2 files MKV containers and it only showed up on one of them?

Hear hear! I'm very impressed with the pace at which the FireCore team is pushing out updates. Best money ever spent on media player software.

Submitted by vegansavage on June 1, 2012 - 1:59pm

"Added support for purchased iTunes content (matching iTunes login required)" is a MASSIVE update! I'm able to watch all iTunes purchased content even if my wife bought it with her iTunes account, or even if we bought it with our old UK iTunes account (before we moved to the US), all without having to log out and back in each time (I'm guessing it's because my iTunes account is authorized to play her content). Thank you so much!

The option to add Remote HD missing from Manage extras menu?

Submitted by gordonr.1446 on June 1, 2012 - 2:21pm

Not sure what to say. I just updated to 1.6 and XMBC is working fine. No issues at all.

Submitted by DesignerGreg on June 1, 2012 - 2:22pm

Same thing here! :(

Am also on 4.2.2

Have tried reinstalling the 1.6 update and removing and re-installing Media Player …still nothing

Submitted by gordonr.1446 on June 1, 2012 - 2:22pm

Thanks Firecore. Another flawless update. Keep up the excellent work.

I want to upgrade from iOS 4.4.4 and aTV Flash (black) 1.5 on my ATV2.  Is the following procedure correct:

  1. restore my ATV2 from iTunes
  2. jailbreak with SeasOnPass 5.0.1 (untethered)
  3. install aTV Flash (black) 1.6

Sorry if this should be basic knowledge..

Thanks! :)

Submitted by Anon on June 1, 2012 - 2:33pm

Excellent and a BIG thank you :¬)

Submitted by Anon on June 1, 2012 - 2:35pm

Great work! The subtitle option works perfectly!
I am so happy I found aTV flash since all updates are like little presents for my atv and me :-)

Ps. Any reason why people need Wake on LAN on aTV 2? Just curious since I don't see any reason for this. Would like to know it so I might also going to use it then.

Submitted by Anon on June 1, 2012 - 2:37pm

Yes and no.
Restore = backup.
There is a topic with step by step how to jb your atv on this site.
And choose untethered indeed.. :-)

Submitted by Anon on June 1, 2012 - 2:40pm

Sorry update :-)
If you already have 4.2.2 and aTV flash black 1.5 you can simply update it by going to settings and update everything which is marked as update.

Submitted by Anon on June 1, 2012 - 2:44pm

If you are using the remote app on iPhone/pad/pod I think it takes advantage of wol.

Submitted by Ventrex on June 1, 2012 - 2:44pm

You are right. Why complaining about things. They have to be happy someone is doing this.
They can not make everyone happy.

Today they made me very happy with the subtitle option. This is a great addon for me. Lots of American people will not really need it but people from other country's do like i think.

No more downloading subtitels on pc and then rename them and test it.

Submitted by Anon on June 1, 2012 - 2:45pm

Keep up the good work guys, ignore the wingers!

See Wed. blog entry here:

If you're running ATV 5.0 (iOS 5.1), the Overflow and Remote HD plug-ins need to be updated by their authors.

Submitted by Anon on June 1, 2012 - 2:46pm

how do you get to subtitles screen? i see no option to choose them

Submitted by ostent on June 1, 2012 - 2:47pm

Doesn't work for me. When i want to play a purchased file from my NAS with Media Player i got an error message that home sharing is not configured properly. But using home sharing with the itunes library on my mac works fine. Maybe a problem with no us-accounts?
I have open a support request.

Submitted by Ventrex on June 1, 2012 - 2:48pm

Which problem? Think you are the only one here. Did you try to remove the mediaplayer and reinstall it?
Or jailbreak it again and install atv flash black via wifi instead to update?

Submitted by JanUndin on June 1, 2012 - 2:48pm

Xbmc wont run on Apple 5.0.1(4224)

Its really annoying :( and i don't know where to find the excellent subtitle download. In media player?

Submitted by Anon on June 1, 2012 - 2:54pm

Would it be possible to scrape data from IMDB for movie metadata? Specifically, my library is organized with nfo files containing a link to the corresponding imdb pages for each movie. I've used XBMC to play my movies like this for years now, but if aTV Flash media player could do this, I could use it exclusively.

Submitted by Anon on June 1, 2012 - 3:00pm

When I update to ATV 1.6, my XBMC crashes after start! So I try to to delete all prefences form xbmc an now it starts, but i wasn`t able to get my SMB shares back. Every time i try to enter the smb search XBMC crashes.
After complete install of ATV Firmware & jailbreak and ATV 1.6 install the error is still there. So i try to uninstall the ATV mediaplayer and:

NOW XBMC and all shares works!!!!!!!

Submitted by apollocntv on June 1, 2012 - 3:08pm

I had the same issue with same version of software. Removed media player - xbmc still won't run. Uninstalled XMBC and reinstalled - still won't run. Went into Nito TV and Update All.
XBMC now runs. Reinstalled Media Player XBMC Failed. Removed media player and went to do Update all again and XBMC now runs.
