Initial install on an unjailbroken 5.01 had Media Player and XBMC working together unil I tried to install from zip on XBMC.  XBMC would keep crashing.  Removed Media Player and XBMC worked fine.

Reinstalling Media Player took longer than usual but it eventually did install and everything is working as advertised.

Well Done Guys!!!  Keep up the good work...

Why has my media menu bar disappeared?

I had a file on my desktop linked directly to the "Media" menu and it made video playback very easy.
I prefer it over xbmc.
Can I get it back?

Excellent, worked like a charm. I've been using aTVFlash for nearly 3 years, first on a silver aTV1 and later on a black aTV2 and never experienced any problem. If Firecore is able to keep up the good work, I'm sure the new aTV3 is only a matter of time.

Well I just want to say that this may be one of the best buys I've ever done. Great piece of software. I had ATV1 before and it was good but I absolutely love ATV black and the new mediaplayer.

Submitted by leonv.9189 on June 2, 2012 - 9:49am

This is a destructive update!

Mediaplayer has disappeared after the update. My ATV2  is now completely useless!!

Is there a way to undo this update?

Submitted by Anon on June 2, 2012 - 11:03am

This is the gold master we've been waiting for. This is a MUST buy product for all AppleTV users (exception Apple TV3). The ATV3 version is still in the works. Love this product!! Thank you VERY much to the developers who obviously worked very hard on this.

To the Firecore team - while you folks do great work, I was very frustrated and annoyed after updating to 1.6.  I totally lost the Media player and XBMC is very choppy.  Some of the posts here indicate that one must first re-jailbreak with Seasonpass 5.0.1 and then do the 1.6 update for everything to work smoothly.  The Firecore team should have put that warning upfront in red and bold so people like me who have earlier versions of Seasonpass have full information about the update.  I earnerstly request you to take this step in the future.  Thanks.

Is it really a must to do a re-jailbreak to 5.01 to avoid any issues with the new 1.6 . As I am not sure how to do this without issues.

We need FIRECORE to let all know if it is necessary to re-jailbreak.

Submitted by Anon on June 2, 2012 - 11:54am

I agree that Soon does not appear to be coming at all. I bought the flash with the expectation of weeks and maybe a month but also thinking that I would get a better price now than later, and even got the lifetime upgrade. At this rate I would rather have my money back since I don't have a ATV2 and it has bought me absolutely nothing.

Firecore must we do a re-jailbreak to 5.01 to avoid any issues with the new 1.6?

Submitted by Anon on June 2, 2012 - 12:18pm

Has anyone been able to update to 1.6 without any problems without having to update to 5.0.1 jailbreak?

Submitted by mpgbyg on June 2, 2012 - 1:16pm

Go to maintenance, install media player again! When you JB, it is only the maintenance app there are available...

Submitted by nntong2007 on June 2, 2012 - 1:22pm

im not able to update to 1.6 . also not to ssh to atv2 either. do we need to re-jailbreak before update to 1.6?

Submitted by Anon on June 2, 2012 - 1:30pm

I heard from a guy who knows a guy, :)... that if you update the media player to 1.6 before you update via maintenance to 1.6 all should be ok.
Can anyone confirm this?

Submitted by lnguyen022 on June 2, 2012 - 2:26pm

How do you get the subtitle to download from he media player?

Submitted by Anon on June 2, 2012 - 3:47pm

I, too, an having some sort of conflict with XBMC and aTV Flash (black) 1.6. Trying to use the XBMC media player to access local movie files now results in a crash. Movie add-ons (1channel, Free Cable, etc.) all seem the same and don't crash. The firecore player accesses the same content and plays fine.

On the upside, the firecore media player now correctly plays my recorded 1280x720, 60 fps content beautifully. Not sure when this feature was added--is this new to 1.6?--but it used to stutter hideously and I though there was no way I was ever going to be able to view this stuff on aTV2 without converting it down to 30fps content. Huge kudos to the firecore team for just that one feature which save me hours and hours of video conversion!

I create folders with each letter of the alphabet, then drop the movies into each. Makes getting to a movie much easier.

Great software. Hopefully there will be soon support for subtitles for Dreambox's .ts format.

This will be a Perfect Feature to Control the ATV from a iPad/iPhone.

Same problem XBMC and Meida player when both installed XBMC crashes. I restored my Apple TV to factory default. I then istalled the latest version of Seas0nPass and then installed 1.6. I installed XBMC and it worked fine. I then installed Media player and when I went back to XBMC it crashed when I tried to access my shares. I then uninstalled Media Player and it worked again. These is some kind of conflict with Media Player and XBMC.

I am not able to get Flickr authorized in XBMC, the link it shows is dead!

Hi all,

thias is the first time I have severe issues with media player (XMBC installed as well). When browsing my SMB shares on my NAS drive media player crashes every time and forces a restart.

Is there a download of 1.5 to downgrade. This is really annoying.

XMBC behaves in the same way, but not deterministic. It only crahes sometimes. Overall appleTV is not usable anymore.

Thanks for downgrade option,

Parabéns pela atualização, impressionado!

Thank You very much for this upgrade.

I wasn't on 5.01 yet and after upgrading to 1.6, I started XBMC and everything blocked. I had to seasonpass again.

But....... I'm extremely impressed and very happy, and I think I don't need XBMC again because the improvements are really great.

So it didn't go really smooth but at the end of the day I'm a very satisfied aTV Flash user.

Submitted by firecore83 on June 3, 2012 - 11:46am

This is not about complaining. It's about letting Firecore know when a new release has issues. I too cannot run XBMC normally anymore. Not even after fully redoing the jailbreak and reinstalling ATV Flash 1.6.

XBMC keeps crashing. They do have a great product but it needs fixing.

Same for me. I had to uninstall media player in order to get xbmc to start, it would show the XBMC logo and then just crash out to the main menu. Uninstalled Media Player, and BAM! launched just fine, but now I don't have my media player. I'm too hope they'll get this bug worked out.

Caution Caution!!!!!!!
If you are on 4.4.4 and don't want to go to 5.0 as Overflow Is not yet supported.
DO NOT update to 1.6 ! Until Firecore fixes the many issues which have been reported here.
Firecore is a great product am I am sure they will fix this release so 4.4.4 users can upgrade to 1.6.
I am sure they did not see all of these issues. One rule I guess is to never release a update on a Friday. If anty problems arise, users have all weekend to complain.
So let's give the support team time to fix this release

Submitted by Anon on June 3, 2012 - 3:34pm

Same here. Can't have XMBC and ATV Flashblack 1.6 media player at same time. ATV Flashblack is great but I miss some tweeks from XMBC like TuneIn Radio, scrobbler and one few more.
May be some of that can be implemented on ATV Flashblack on the next update.

Submitted by Anon on June 4, 2012 - 1:35am

I've had the same issue. Only upgraded one of my 3 x ATV2's - so I'm not going near the other two just yet.
Is there a way to put in New Feature Suggestions? - I'd like the Media player to remember specific directories to access on my Drobo (Network attached). It takes too long to navigate them - this is almost one of the only reasons I like sticking with XBMC.

Submitted by Anon on June 4, 2012 - 6:09am

I am running ios 5.01 and I updated my apple tv 2 to the latest ATV flash Black. For some reason I am unable to SSH to my Apple tv. Is this a known issue with this update?

Submitted by Anon on June 4, 2012 - 6:54am

Interesting.... because before reading about the problems with the 1.6 upgrade, I upgraded. XBMC was crashing, but overflow works fine. I figured I would wait. So I went into NitoTV to update other software and after updating something called pcre or something like that, XMBC is working fine again.

Submitted by Anon on June 4, 2012 - 7:05am

i have the same issue.

Submitted by Knightmare on June 4, 2012 - 8:05am

Was the media player and XBMC media player conflict resolved?
I uninstalled and reinstalled the media player and they both seem to be working now.
I couldn't get them both working this morning and tryed tonight now there both working.

opps I spoke too soon, I had to uninstall the media player in order to get the XBMC media player to work other wise it keeps crashing out loading the windows network (SMB)

the reason I like having both media players is some mkv files stutter on the media player even the new 1.6 version and works on the XBMC player, also XBMC player supports idx subtitles.

Submitted by james on June 4, 2012 - 9:57am

A new build of Media Player has just been released that resolves the XBMC related issues. You can update on the Apple TV through the Maintenance --> Manage Extras menu.

Sorry for the trouble.
