You may have noticed, but we try hard to keep making aTV Flash (black) better and better through regular software updates. Our update cycle philosophy has always been to provide frequent, steady improvements, and to resolve as many issues as we can get our hands on.

Today we are happy to release aTV Flash (black) 1.7 which, among other things, features seamless access to is a free service that automatically tracks the movies and TV shows you watch, and provides recommendations for related content you may find interesting. Scrobbling and Ratings

If you're new to aTV Flash (black) you can learn about all the great benefits here.

Enjoy. :-)

Update: A few users are reporting issues with Plex running on the 5.0+ software. The Plex plugin for Apple TV is quite outdated, and we recommend removing it before installing any updates. If you're using Plex and are experiencing trouble a workaround can be found here please re-run the aTV Flash (black) installer.

Update 2: A workaround has been found to get Plex up and running again. More info can be found here.

Great - are firecore ever going to develop a simple app / browser compatible for BBC iplayer ?

I don't want to have to use XBMC for iplayer, and couchsurfer really isn't up to it (navigation is really poor) & recently seems to have broken.

BB iplayer is a free content provider, that could be relatively easily implemented into a simple UI or via use of iplayer BIG SCREEN (as on PS3)...

I had the same problem. i just restored my atv2 back to the original settings through itunes. Then i went through the jailbreak process all over. After doing that i had no problems.

Was that maintained by Plex or was it an open source plugin?

isn't there another way? re-jailbreaking also means setting up everything from scratch again, right?

or does the 1.7 only work with 5.0?

You may try power-cycling the Apple TV then re-running the aTV Flash (black) installer from a Mac or PC.

What type of files are you having trouble with? Currently will only recognize commercial movies/tv shows, so files like home videos will not be supported.

You may also check to ensure metadata fetching is enabled in the Media --> Settings --> General menu. Videos without metadata cannot be scrobbled or rated on

Update 1.7 has destroyed my appletv 2. It restarts very often, even when only the menu is showing. I can't play video or music at the moment.

I tried to downgrade to 1.5 (1.6 was not 100%) but no luck.

Any elaboration on: "Added localized movie poster art"

Thanks for a great update!

Any chance of a reply to my post on Sat 14th July please?

Plus I have also noticed that the media player is only playing video with no audio on AVI files. Pleas can this be corrected in the next release?

Submitted by james on July 19, 2012 - 7:54am

TheMovieDB provides poster art in a number of different languages - Media will now try and match the poster version (if one is available) to the language setting of the Apple TV.

Media has actually never support m3u or wpl playlists. We're hoping to add support for playlists like this in a future version, but don't have an ETA at this point.

What you're describing is definitely not typical. It's probably best to send in a bug report so we can look into what's going on.

Submitted by Anon on July 19, 2012 - 11:54am

Ok, thanks for the update James, glad to know it is on your list. I must be mistaken but I was sure it did in the past as I rarely play anything other than playlists, it would be great if it could be added though as I really like the additional info and images that comes up on the artists when playing tracks using the media player.

Keep up the good work, ATV really does turn the little apple box into a powerful media player.

I had to reinstall everything, and once i got to work the whole thing again, i had to mark as watched all the movies i remember i watched. i lost a lot beacuse of my bad memory, but besides this.. should the movies i marked as watched on media player be seen as watched on my account? if they should, it s not working for me..

Submitted by james on July 21, 2012 - 8:18am

What you're describing is trakt 2-way sync, which is in the works for an upcoming version.

Submitted by tomyt3 on July 23, 2012 - 11:54pm

that answer was for me?

Submitted by Anon on July 25, 2012 - 4:59am

With this new version it takes a verry long time to connect to my NAS (Synology). Before it was just a mather of seconds..

So if I get this atv black 1.7 I can scrobble to using netflix or plex? If I watch a movie on netflix will it scrobble? Or if I watch it in plex will it scrobble?

Also what if I have different profiles? How can I scrobble a movie to a certain profile. For instance I have a kids and adults profile. So when I watch a movie I can see what exactly my kids are watching and when. I can do this on xbmc since I can setup two profiles and have installed seperatly on both.
