They say ‘no news is good news’ but the truth is ‘no news’ is torture, so it’s time for a progress update.

Seas0nPass for Windows

The first beta version of Seas0nPass for Windows has gone out to those who signed up for the Seas0nPass beta earlier this week. Barring any major setbacks, or show-stopping bugs we’re hoping to have a public version available next week.

GreenPois0n and the untethered jailbreak

Contrary to some reports, the recently release RC5 version of the GreenPois0n jailbreak tool (from the Chronic Dev Team) does not yet support the AppleTV. Fortunately the latest word is that the upcoming RC6 version will include support for an untethered jailbreak of the AppleTV. Once this new version is released the untethered jailbreak will also be available in an updated version of Seas0nPass. Choice is always good. :-)

Big thanks to the guys at Chronic dev for all their hard work!

Update: GP RC6 is out. Go grab it here.

aTV Flash (black) Beta3

  • Added one-click XBMC install

  • Improved installer to better handle iOS updates
  • Improved installer error handling
  • One-click diagnostic report submissions

Couch Surfer Pro

  • Added support for touch and double-click events
  • Improved web page rendering
  • Improved web history; filtered duplicates
  • Improved handling of video elements
  • Eliminated ‘flickering’ during page loads
  • Resolved issues with auto-completion
  • Minor UI improvements

  • Added support for Scrobbling 2.0
  • Minor UI improvements

aTV Flash (black) Beta3 is available today. You can update on the AppleTV through the Maintenance --> Manage Extras menu. Download links are aslo available in your account.

What’s next?

We still have a lot of exciting things slated for release later this month. The original goal of making the best software possible has not changed, and your continued patience and support during this process is sincerely appreciated.

I guarantee you will not be disappointed.

Comments are welcome below.

Although i'm disappointed that you missed two of your own time lines, i'm glad you finally gave credit for the jailbreak were it belongs (Chronic Dev Team)!!!

"This application failed to start because libeay32.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem."

Maybe this is happening because I'm on a 64 bit version and not 32, but it's an error either way. I don't trust downloading the file from an unreliable source...maybe you guys could point me in the right direction?

Submitted by Anon on February 12, 2011 - 1:15pm

Would luv to give this a try guys . Can you drop me a mail update , im ready to go with paypal if required before testing . Been sitting on sidelines watching for this to happen . Havent got a mac but ive been using xbmc for years and would luv to get it on atv2 .

Same problem here. Win xp 32 bit

Submitted by LarsLauritzen on February 12, 2011 - 1:32pm

I got the samme problem on Windows 7 32 bit libeay32.dll is missing.
I came to:
Step 3: The latest AppleTV software will be downloaded and used to create a custom 'jailbroken' software file.
It downloaded the software but when trying to unzip the Software i had the fault:
"This application failed to start because libeay32.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem."
Google is youre freind i found teh delay32.32 but where too put  hmm.. i do´nt  nowe :O

Submitted by madesco on February 12, 2011 - 1:46pm

To get the DLL, download and install OpenSSL, and then reboot your computer.

On my computer, this was the first problem I got. Then, I ran the SeasOnPass, and it aborted before iTunes ever started, so I guess I'll have to wait for a workaround for that.

Not available for the 64-bit version of Windows 7 unfortunately though :-(

Does anyone know whether this will be W7-64 compatible when public version is available please?

Thanks, NickW

Submitted by desucca on February 12, 2011 - 3:45pm

had the libeay32.dll issue, I'm past that now (thanks guys) but seas0npass has been stuck for at least 10 mins (didn't keep track right away, so probably 15 mins+ at this point) at the 'creating ipsw...' the progress bar is about 2/3 of the way right below the third of the .'s in 'creating ipsw...' :(

gonna give it 10 more mins then probably try greenpois0n

update: tried a 2nd time to no avail.. downloaded gp rc6 and have successfully updated.. now only if I could find this beta 3 they're talking about...

Submitted by Anon on February 12, 2011 - 3:46pm

Only thing you need tv flash black for is couch surfer pro.
So if you want to cough up 20 bucks for that more power to
Worst 20 bucks I ever spent since all the teams released it for free.
Thanks Greenpoison ans XBMC.
Firecore thanks for nothing.

Submitted by Anon on February 12, 2011 - 3:52pm

Anyone have any luck getting this to work on the atv2? I followed the directions, but it never entered DFU mode. Didn't give me any errors and the atv works fine when I plug it in to the tv, but no jailbreak. as soon as I let go of the menu + play/pause buttons, nothing happens, the button just says 'try again?'

Just wondering if anyone is having any luck.

Can anybody actually see beta 3 links in their account?

I can only see beta 2

Yippiei - Greenposois0n RC6 is out (Mac and Windows)!

Submitted by nickc.55852 on February 12, 2011 - 4:05pm

Jailbroke using Greenpois0n rc6 no problem, untethered. aTVFlash wont install without injecting the Cydia repo first. You can install XBMC no problems. However the aTVFlash breaks the wifi connection completely after installing it over Greenpois0n. Also no new menus appear after the aTVFlash install.

Submitted by nickc.55852 on February 12, 2011 - 4:35pm

Go ATVFlash to install over Greenpois0n. Not sure what I did differently though. Haven't restarted it yet, might lose the wifi then...

Submitted by catj.36136 on February 12, 2011 - 4:36pm

i cant get atvflash to install but everythin else with greenpois0n is workin fine, any idea?

EDT. nevermind i got it workin now

Submitted by catj.36136 on February 12, 2011 - 5:02pm

dont reboot u will loose the wifi, just happened to me

Submitted by Anon on February 12, 2011 - 5:15pm

ok the GP RC6 just came out and it dose support ATV2 get it and fix the jailbreak problem and no more rebooting and hooking up to SeasonPass required

Submitted by richardm.5449 on February 12, 2011 - 5:22pm

Was already tethered JB with windows(Not with seasonpass but with the link posted by CIP almost 2 weeks Just used greenpoison and unthered JB now.

Have it set up without using atvflash and will be leaving it like that for the next while.

Just find firecore is always the last out of the gate for info lately.

It's only $20 wasted.

Submitted by nickc.55852 on February 12, 2011 - 5:34pm

Cheers for that :)

Hopefully update to ATVFlash will fix it...

Agreed.  Bought this product before Christmas because alternate file format playback was "right around the corner", and eluded to being days or a few weeks away.  Tune hasn't changed since then.  Disappointment abounds.

Submitted by Anon on February 12, 2011 - 10:50pm

1) hook up atv2 via usb only.
2) put it into dfu mode. (hold menu + down for 7 seconds, pause for 2 seconds then press menu and play for 7 seconds)
3) restore apple tv in itunes to newest firmware, remove from computer, then plug it back in with both the usb and power cables connected
4) download green p0sion
5) run green posion
6) click yes in green p0sion to set up apple tv
7) put atv into dfu mode
8) click jailbreak on green p0sion
9) after green posion says complete disconnect from computer
10) follow setup instructions on atv
11) when homescreen loads click green p0sion
12) install cydia repo from green posion
13) DONE. install any additional programs from nito tv.

still can't get this to work - I've tried both following the directions offered by GreenPois0n, and the directions listed here. Either way it doesn't seem to be going into DFU mode. I hold down the down + menu for 7 secs, and the light on the front of the ATV starts flashing fast. I let go, wait two seconds, hold down menu + play for 7 secs, and the light starts flashing fast again. I let go of the buttons, click jailbreak, it goes through the cycle waiting for DFU, and then it just says 'try again?'

Going through the GP directions has the same result. I've been trying since this thing was released... I guess I'll just have to wait until the new se0sonpass is released, unless anyone has any other ideas.

I'm using Windows 7 x64 with GP rc6. I get to education fine but the jailbreak always fails. I have the newest iTunes and my firewall is disabled. Anyone else have similar issues or a suggestion?

Submitted by Anon on February 13, 2011 - 4:55am

Absolutely wicked, I have XBMC installed now and can stream all my films from my Windows SMB share in full 5.1. The quality is awsome....

Hats off to all the guys involved in this, I love it, thank you!!!!

Submitted by richardm.5449 on February 13, 2011 - 5:03am

You can download iREB to make sure your in DFU mode.

Make sure the power plug is not connected.

Yep, a new version of Seas0nPass that includes the untether for 4.1.1 (iOS 4.2.1) will be available soon.

Submitted by morphkopf on February 13, 2011 - 6:32am

hmm i got "installation failed" with this beta 3, with pc and mac, both the same failure. but it finds my appletv ip correctly ;(

Submitted by Anon on February 13, 2011 - 9:36am

I'm runnning a mac, it looks like REB is PC only?

Submitted by Anon on February 13, 2011 - 9:45am

I meant DFU, not education. Stupid auto correction.... Anyway, I still have no luck. I Re-verified that my firewalls are off. Greenpois0n recognizes the atv2 in DFU and tries to jailbreak but it always fails. Is there something I'm missing? What do those two pop-up command windows say when greenpois0n launches? Could that be the problem? They pop up to fast for me to read the entire thing, but I'm sure the first word is ERROR.
