How can I update ATV Flash Black? I can't find any option in Maintennance-->Manege Extras
But, that's no really important now. My most importan question is... How can I stream from my Mac (with Elgato) to my Apple TV 2?

Thank you.

Hi all,

great work!

I like media player, however I cannot use favorites. When I click on a favorite which I created in the folder tree of my Airport Extreme smb share, I get the error "count not open dir smb://192.168.2.1/Monstruo/Filme/ - reason: no such file or directory. However this link was created automatically and is indeed valid and works for example with finder on Mac OS X. Any ideas?

Thanks,

Peter

I'm Liking the beta5. Not found any problems and SMB shares found in media. :)

Will you be bringing DLNA or UPnP compatibility to aTV(black)?  It would make my day if it could discover a UPnP server.

Excellent work on the media player and SMB support.

Easy as pie to use.

Thanks for all the hard work.

Hi James,

when could we expect the jailbreak on a windows machine as an untethered one? It couldn't be that difficult as most of other tools are available on win platform as well.

Like me, I bought aTV and couldn't even try it out so far - and yes I know there are other resources for jailbreaking but for the latest update (4.2.2) there isn't any...

Cheers,

 joseffe

Great update! - the media player is a real bonus for playing dvd video ts folders (which the plex client can't do)

Like some others have noticed I am getting stuttering video on the bigger files. Can this be fixed in a future update? What exactly does the" memory low" message mean and is there a user solution to this?

Sorry James,

stupied mistake, everythings fine...

Hello,

and thanks for the Beta5, great work so far.

Conclusion: Some of my 720p miniseries/films and my DVD-rips is playing like a charm. Didnt before, so it's the right way. Thumbs up from me. But still, some lag, once in a while.

Honestly, is it technically possible to play 720p or 1080p .MKV files on the ATV2 - flawlessly? If we see the ATV 2's specs and memory, it's not that fantastic. So can you guys realy tweak this true software?… Im still happy with my software, so it's not a trick question Wink

…I just want to know if it's in the future from you guys, to actually come up with this solution true your software. My best.

Got seasonpass and media player all installed on 4.2.2. Great work guys. But when I try to acces video files on afp share, ATV freezes and reboots. Pics and music work fine on the same afp share. Any ideas?

I'm new in this stuff; and this is the first time that I have to upgrade my Apple TV2 to a new version (in this case, Beta 5). Well, basically I upgraded to version Beta 5 using my Apple TV2 (Maintenance --> Manage Extras menu); and everything is upgraded succefully. But, I was wondering why I can't upgrade the Apple OS to the new version (4.2.2)?? I'm experimentin problem with Youtube (Internet --> YouTube); and pops up a message saying "No content was found".

I'm trying to update the Apple TV2 following the route: Settings --> General ---> Update Software; and then when the upgrade is already downloaded; in my screen pops up a messages telling me this: "The update was not successfull".

As far I remember, I updated the Apple TV2 software before run the update from Firecore; so I'm thinking that may be the update sequence was the wrong one?? Or I have to Jailbreaked again with Seas0nPass every time when Apple send an update ??

Could you please give me some directions to solve this problem?? I was thinking that may be reset the Apple TV2 following the route: Settings --> General ---> Reset --> (Reset All Settings or Restore ??).; but this mean that I have to Jailbreaked again with the Seas0nPass??

Anyone can help me with this ???

Hmm - can you submit a bug report as described here.

There is a new lightweight player that is under development, which once complete will dramatically improve the performance of HD video files.

We should have more news soon.

Submitted by james on May 18, 2011 - 7:31am

The best way to upgrade the AppleTV software is to re-jailreak with the latest version of Seas0nPass. This will automatically upgrade you to 4.2.2 during the jailbreak process.

Until then check out my post at the Mediaplay Blog entry here (search for my nickname) Mediaplayer Blog

Good update, thanks!  You should consider adding support for streaming flash and html5 content (podcasts and tv network sites) natively like Boxxee/XBMC do.  It should be selectable like a channel... the Boxxee interface is far superior and faster to operate than XBMC.

Using the standard Apple media interface would work perfectly as a channel surfer... and you could categorize your channels.

This is the only thing I use XBMC for now that the media player is working fairly reliably.  XBMC is clunky and requires sorting through tons of menus to get to the content.  Plus, exiting XBMC causes an ATV2 reset each time.

This site is of particular interest, plus Hulu and others... www.fastpasstv.eu

Also, I'm in Canada so some kind of proxy support would be helpful.
Cheers!

Check out AirPlay, by Erica Sadun. That should do the trick.

From what I've seen/tested so far, I don't think we are quite there with regards to sending video from ATV2 to iPhone when you're not connected to the same wifi network. As an alternative some people have been looking to the Seagate GoFlex Satellite 500 GB Wireless Hard Drive. I'm seeing some people buying the 16gb iPads along with one if these drives, as opposed to buying more internal memory.

You can stream Live TV and recordings from EyeTV on your Mac.

Great work :) Keep it comming.

I have a issue with the Media Player though. Whenever i watch a movie from my NAS server it shuts down after half an hour.

Powering up again it continues where it shut down - after around half an hour it shuts down again. Is there a hardware/software Watchdog at play here??

Regarding Media Player. It would be nice to be able to choose if the metadata is fetching the Cover picture from the internet or from the NAS server.

Regarding Radio. I know there is the original Apple TV Radio function and Your Last FM. What I miss is my local radio station, Like URL streaming or maybe if You would add TuneIn (Radiotime) to the functions like Last FM. TuneIn supports streaming local radio for free so it would be a very nice feature to have.

Regarding Music. There is one thing that is frustrating about Apple, that is having a PC running Itunes to get my music library to my Apple TV. My NAS server includes a Itunes server (Firefly version) But Apple TV can't find it without running it through Itunes v. 10.xx on my PC. It Would be nice having Firecore to implement a music player supporting standard SMB so I don't need to have my PC wasting any power .

Again, keep up the good work. Looking forward to the next beta or even bettet - the final version.

Cheers

Its the energy saver mode of the apple TV. Turn it off or put it from 30min up to 5 hours. Thats the solution i live with but they really could

build in some kind of "stop ATV2 going into standby IF using Media Player". Feature request here Smile

Will be fixed soon. ;)

Submitted by HENRYBUNNY on May 23, 2011 - 6:54am

how do you resume the seasonpass logo after choosing "hide" and it disappeared?

Submitted by Anon on May 23, 2011 - 9:13am

Can you watch videos from sidereel.com or cuevana.tv on the couch surfer from atv flash black?

Submitted by james on May 23, 2011 - 11:31am

There's no way to get the Seas0nPass menu back once it's been hidden. Having this menu hidden won't actually affect your jailbreak - it's just there to give you visual confirmation your AppleTV was successfully jailbroken.

Submitted by superdifficult on May 25, 2011 - 7:16pm

Love this software. I find that SD video plays mostly okay with the occasional hiccup. HD content though gives me a memory low error every time. What can I do to improve things (i've restarted lowtide)?

Submitted by james on May 26, 2011 - 8:26am

The upcoming lightweight player will greatly improve HD video playback.

Stay tuned. ;)

Loving my ATV now! And I love that you gave me a good reason to get an airport extreme (which I also love).

Love the new version but still waiting for a way to manually 'Mark As Watched'.

Submitted by angelor.7934 on May 27, 2011 - 11:38am

Do you guys know of any tricks to watch websites justintv or ustreamtv either by webkit browser or by means of navi-x?

Submitted by fabian9 on May 27, 2011 - 1:48pm

I currently can't use the media player at all because it crashes out and restarts Lowtide every time I try to watch anything. That's on Apple TV Software 4.2.1 (2100) with nothing else installed except for Media Player and Maintenance. Any help would be much appreciated!

EDIT: Just updated my Apple TV to the latest firmware and reinstalled everything... it seems to be working now - at least it's not crashing out before even starting to play.

James:

To clarify:

Once using Beta 5, is 5.1 sound broken across every ATV feature? Is this to be covered in the next update?

Likewise, Airplay seems only to work with audio now; no picture is streaming from iPad. Is there a workaround right now?

thanks!

Hello chaps,

I just wen through the whole process and right at the end got a "Error 1600". Anyone else get this?

There are a few reasons why this can happen.

Take a look over a few of the tips here.

James, the forum is littered with reports of air play only working for Youtube for the last release, and apparently this one. Most ppl are using Seas0n Pass to Jailbreak.
