Now I can't wait to get home....Thanks for your hard work.... and making the workday take even longer.... lol

I've really loved the addition of the Grid view. Really improved navigating my movies. Doesn't make much sense for TV shows, however, in fact, I'd argue it makes it harder to navigate. I haven't figured out a way to use Grid view for Movies, and Grid view for TV Show folders, and List view for a view of an individual show or season. Also wish Media Player could add cover art to TV show folders and not just the media files.

You guys are the best. I love media player

I really experience quite some issues with buffering since the latest update on aTV2.

Movies >2GB are constantly buffering etc, nothing changed to network (running N-network - with NAS connected via ethernet to router)

Hi Guys , just loaded in the new MP

Fist time loading grid view 15 seconds per page,  second time loadinf=g the grid view 15 seconds per page , sligtly better but still not caching the cover art.

has to relaod it each time you go into grid view

Any chance of the Ethernet control uet?

Thanks for the fix on the subtitle switch... Most appreciated!!!!

Submitted by Anon on November 9, 2011 - 12:30pm

I have trouble viewing older movies I've downloaded long before I had aTV. Does the media player not support .wmv? I've noticed most of them have .wmv on them.

Submitted by Anon on November 9, 2011 - 12:31pm

Any chance on a future improvement including support for sub-folders?

For instance I have my music (video is arranged similarly) in a folder called music, within music I have folders for artist, within artist I have folders by album. Any chance that functionality will be enabled that when I select the "music" folder it will look down in all of the sub-folders and display the tracks/albums?

Thanks
-Ken

Is there a sort function in the works? I would love to be able to sort movies by year or genre...

Submitted by tomiy1 on November 9, 2011 - 12:35pm

Thanks for the update!

Would it be possible to have some sort of keyword search for network shared folders?

Rather than scrolling forever to find a specific movie in a folder (some of us have 100's),  we can just do a quick keyword search and go right to the file we want.

Submitted by Anon on November 9, 2011 - 12:41pm

You can found a way to do so just place whatever image you want as the folder artwork with the file name folder.jpg and it will display that jpg as the folder artwork

Hi Guys,

Would it be possible to play flac files on the mediaplayer?

Thanks

How does one get grid view to work?  I still just see the same display as a list?

Submitted by jamest.8685 on November 9, 2011 - 12:42pm

Working fine here - still haven't gotten the hang of how to mark files for TV shows to get the metadata. I ripped my Doctor Who DVD but still no metadata loads... (will have to search the forums...sigh)

The release updates always focus on features, graphics, look & feel. But the core engine is still not usable for MPEG2. Media Player simply can't show MPEG2 videos with sufficient speed. They're annyoingly bucking. The aTV2 is connected through a network cable and the same movie from the same location, i.e. a network shared disk, plays just fine on the same aTV2 using XBMC. So, it's not the hardware that is too slow. But Media Player on the same hardware can't deliver sufficient speed. I have to stick with XBMC.

When will you offer support for full-screen/stretched movies...? We're really waiting for this feature!

"Added global setting for enabling/disabling subtitles." Thank you!!!!

Any word on disabling default AppleTV menus again?

Great work guys. Love short release cycles

Submitted by marcom.1570 on November 9, 2011 - 1:01pm

I have a problem with the existing MP and that is that any iso movies don't ever load it keeps telling me that it is buffering then it hangs the apple TV, then I have to do a tethered reboot to fix it. It stops responding to any remote commands, basically it crashes every time I try to play an iso movie.

This post is about a new version of MP: why don't you upgrade to see if this is fixed before you start whining!

Submitted by Anon on November 9, 2011 - 1:28pm

just wondering if you fixed the issue with left/right scrolling with the Remote app when using Grid View?

Submitted by filips01 on November 9, 2011 - 1:29pm

Hmm, if only I had a "like" or "+1" button i could press to show appreciation on this post Grin

When I enable AC3, I hear a loud buzzing sound on some DVD's I've ripped.
Lately its been most if not all and I'm running the latest version, 9.1.
Have had to disable AC3 and audio quality is not as full.

Can you help?

Are you connected to an AV receiver or just a TV?

Submitted by Anon on November 9, 2011 - 1:35pm

Media player is very easy to use , simple and friendly interface . It is a real good job ! Activate widescreen /fullscreen is the missing feature. Perhaps in planned for next release ?

Yes, scrolling issues in Grid View have been resolved.

Submitted by james on November 9, 2011 - 1:36pm

It's still planned, and will probably be added in a post-1.0 version.

Submitted by james on November 9, 2011 - 1:37pm

The Grid/List view setting is available in the Media --> Settings menu.

Yes, MP will support WMV files. However, in the currently version only standard definition WMV files are supported.

What kind of movies? Can you send in a bug report?

if we can read .iso, it'd be too good to be true Smile

What if I want to update just the media player and not the whole software?

Submitted by Anon on November 9, 2011 - 1:54pm

These are nice minor updates but I would much rather see the release of an un-tethered jail-break that supports ATV v4.4. Apple has released some fantastic features that I'd like to take advantage of... true Mirroring, NHL.com, Photostream support to name a few.

Also what would be really helpful is a way to easily restore all configuration settings including those in XBMC each time we have to do a new jail-break. We already have the online backup, why not a simple "restore from backup made on date..." option?

Great product, just adding to the wish list.

For me, some MPEG-2 files work fine through a local network cable (100Mbps); however, certain high bit-rate versions will stutter. This makes me think there is an issue with the look-ahead video buffer algorithm in that it is not buffering enough prior to playing (of course I could be wrong not being a developer Smile

DV video stutters badly.

Also, some ripped DVDs cause the unit to reset/reboot when trying to play them. They play fine using an Apple Mac OS X computer, though.

FLAC decode will be the killer audio feature for audiophiles!

Will it support more than stereo channel?

Can't wait!!!

Submitted by Anon on November 9, 2011 - 2:16pm

FLAC support please! Waiting for just that one feature.

Submitted by aos2 on November 9, 2011 - 2:19pm

Than you guys. That will be the great step for me.:)

Submitted by james on November 9, 2011 - 2:29pm

The cloud backups available in Maintenance do exactly that. After updating/restoring you can access a snapshot of your settings by date, and easily restore them with one click.

Submitted by james on November 9, 2011 - 2:29pm

The Media Player update will be available in the Maintenance --> Manage Extras menu.

Submitted by james on November 9, 2011 - 2:30pm

ISO support was added not long ago. Give it a try. :)

Submitted by james on November 9, 2011 - 2:30pm

This is planned for a future version.

Is there a way to add Volume Contro to when i play Music.... I can controle the volume on movies but music is a difrint storry.

Submitted by linus555 on November 9, 2011 - 2:57pm

No, these are neither high resolution nor high bitrate MPGE2's. They come from a DVB-T receiver, are simple 704 x 576 TV series videos with size of 600 MB for half an hour. DVB-C or DVB-S would deliver much higher bitrates, DVDs are way bigger. There can't be simpler MPEG2 movies than these and still Media Player fails to play them smoothly. Again, XBMC on the exact same hardware plays the same movies well.

Sorry to say, so far the integration of XBMC is indeed the only reason why I bought aTV flash.

I love the ability to see my photos in this version!  The slideshow function is working great.  It does seem to be kinda slow before the slideshow starts though.  Faster in a future version?

Submitted by arnos.9361 on November 9, 2011 - 3:08pm

Unfortunately does this update not work on my ATV. After a lot of trial and error I got the previous version working (it crashed when entering a share with moviefolders and folders that included many jpg files. I finally found a work around last sunday), after installing this update my ATV crashes as soon as I enter a movie folder.

To be more precise: I access my share, enter the folder with lots of moviefolders in it. The moviegrid is shown allright. But when I select a moviefolder I see the files within it for a couple of seconds (about.jpg, folder.jpg and movieXYZ,mkv). Than my ATV reboots.:( This is the case with moviefolders only, not with my photo folders.

So I'm back to were I was some days ago.....I cannot use my ATV / Mediaplayer but have to stick to XBMC.

Submitted by james on November 9, 2011 - 3:19pm

Hmm, sorry about that.

If you haven't done so already, sending in bug report will help us track down what's going on.
