This is currently a limitation of TheMovieDB which we are using for poster art and metadata. It does not allow us to distinguish between poster art in different languages, and will just choose the highest rated poster, even if that poster has only one rating.

For example, the highest rated english poster for The Bourne Ultimatum has a rating of 7.58 stars with 24 ratings (http://www.themoviedb.org/movie/2503-the-bourn...), whereas the top rated French poster has a 10 star rating but with only one vote. In this case the French poster would be used.

We're looking into a few options for improving this behavior and hope to have a fix soon.

This can be done by hiding one of the current top row items through the AppleTV parental controls.

Disabling iTunes Match, or the Rent/Purchase feature will free up a spot for Media in the top row.

I don't know how to config a NFS Share. I set the ip of the NFS server but aTV can't find any export. The server is ok cause I can access it from my Mac.

Any clue?

For those who want to know how to setup NFS streaming, there is a guide from firecore here:

Thank you very Much

Thanks for the upgrade.

Could it be possible for a future release to have an option to move the subtitles downwards and not only upwards.

I would appreciate this a lot.

I Have trouble playing video in couch surfer since the upgrade, any reason why?

This is not true. I updated and XBMC disappeared.

Man, aTV Flash was a great purchase.

Submitted by gericb on April 19, 2012 - 8:52pm

Seems the install process of aTV 1.5 has changed.  Previous versions would search for the aTV and if not found, you could enter in the

IP address manually.  Now it seems that has been removed.  When trying to install the V1.5, it says it can't find the aTV and to be sure

it's On and AirPlay is enabled.  Just checked with my iPad 2, it connects and does display mirroring just fine, which validates the ON and AirPlay... yet still the V1.5 Installer is unable to find it.  The computer and the aTV are both on the same strong WiFi connection.

Any clues?

i just updated to the 1.5 version, could be silly question but is the layout (graphics etc) meant to change to the same as the latests Atv3 layout? the coloured tiles etc. ?

Submitted by james on April 20, 2012 - 9:34am

The menu layout will be determined by the version of Apple TV SW you are running.

5.0 and later = icons

4.4.4 and earlier = no icons

Installed the update and now my Apple TV is stuck on Top Movies, even after restarting (unplugging). Any thoughts? Do I need to restore, re-jailbreak, re-install?

But what is the advantage of NFS over AFP?

No luck! Unfortunately those instructions are for the ATV1 and not ATV2 (which has different (less) options). Has anyone gotten NFS streaming to work that could share some sample settings?! Thanks!

I'm not sure if I missed something, but I have the latest aTV flash (black) 1.5 installed and ATV2 firmware 4.4.4.  The AVT2 is indicating that "Your Apple TV is up to date".  Is it not possible to update to iOS5 at this point?  I was under the understanding that aTV flash 1.5 was now fully functional and supported on iOS5.  Please advise?

Thanks a bunch!

hi, any chance of having alias work with ATV??

Submitted by Anon on April 20, 2012 - 9:20pm

Me too. Having trouble playing video on some sites in Couch Surfer Pro since the upgrade.

Submitted by bvesio on April 21, 2012 - 8:03am

Yes, aTV Flash works with iOS 5, but you can't perform that upgrade via the Apple TV; you need to run Seas0nPass again it via your computer: http://support.firecore.com/entries/387605

Before doing this, you might want to make a backup of your settings via the Maintenance - Settings - Manage Backups menu, because you'll start out with a "freshly installed" system when you re-connect to your TV.

After you run Seas0nPass, don't forget to run the aTV Flash (black) application.  Then, do the tethered boot, connect to your TV, restore any backups you may have made, and enjoy.

Submitted by davige on April 21, 2012 - 8:03am

Why is it that ever since a couple of versions ago, only TV shows with multiple episodes appear in folders? Single episodes do not, sometimes with strange titles. How can I get back to ALL TV episodes in their specific show folders, even just 1 episode?

Submitted by MarkCY on April 21, 2012 - 11:59am

Thanks I appreciate the feedback.  Just to clarify, I'm on 4.4.4 right now and if I perform a "full backup" via the Maintenance settings prior to upgrading to iOS5, will it reinstall all of my pulgins and addons (eg. Plex Client, XBMC, Icefilms etc.) and customized UI settings once I restore that full backup?  XBMC and Plex in particular are highly customized and configured and I have over two dozed plugins installed and countless hours invested already. Just double checking before I proceed.

Lastly, naive questions since I'm still new to aTV flash (black), is a tethered flash (computer to ATV2 via USB) the only way to upgrade to iOS5 vs. a pushed out update for existing customers at a future point?

Thanks again!

I'm suspecting that the CS Pro video issue may have something to do with Java/HTML5 compatibility change in the latest browser implementation. I wonder if we're able to downgrade back to v1.4.

Submitted by bvesio on April 21, 2012 - 1:51pm

I seem to recall reading a post that indicated that Backup feature did backup XBMC settings, but now that I am looking for confirmation (and a link to send you), I can't be completely sure.  Perhaps another user can confirm that it works (and that they've tested it recently).

I backup my XBMC settings manually, and I've never had a problem (everything gets restored -- add-ons, settings, favorites, etc).

I'm not sure how much of a techie you are or if you are using a Mac or PC, but if you are familiar with SFTP and SSH connections, then you can make the backup manually and you won't lose any of your XBMC stuff (backup the entire XBMC folder, not just the user data folder): http://wiki.xbmc.org/index.php?title=XBMC_for_...

If you'd rather not bother with that, then i'd recommend you get prior confirmation from someone (perhaps a support ticket with Firecore) that the Manage Backups command will backup and restore your XBMC settings. Heck, I'd like to know the answer myself.

I should also mention that if you upgrade your Apple TV to iOS 5, you do need to be comfortable running a few commands via an SSH connection (on the Mac that means using Terminal; on Windows it means a program such as PuTTY).  That's because for now, XBMC needs to be installed manually on iOS5.  Again, if you'd rather not bother, just wait and eventually there will be an automated installer for XBMC.  If you are comfortable doing it, however, follow these instructions: http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid=127369

Regarding the second question, it depends on the type of update. Updates from Firecore, such as the aTV Flash (black) update 1.5 that was recently released, are done from the Maintenance - Settings menu. These updates are simple, they don't require a computer, and no tethered boot is required.

The second type of update is an operating system update from Apple, such as iOS 5.  For these types of updates, you usually need to backup, connect to the computer, run Seas0nPass to jailbreak, then run aTV Flash, then restore any backups.

The tethered boot is a separate issue. It's required on iOS 5 right now, but there are some great minds working on changing that. (I'm not one of them; just a fan).  it seems any time there is an important update related to the the Apple TV, we can count on James at Firecore to tweet about it, so if you follow that you'll stay informed.

Concerning XBMC , before the aTV new version was released, people claimed they installed Xbmc using ssh commands.
I even found a program that would do it and I managed to install it on my ATV but the thing is it appears as a black Icon that doesn't work.
the only thing it will do is return you to the main screen.
I think it doesn't work and those who have it working are running old ATV software, pre iOS 5.

Search "XMBC installer (Apple Tv)" if you have a Mac but if you are running iOS 5 I guarantee it won't work.
you will see the Icon but it won't work.

I searched ever so hard for a reason or a solution but found zilch.

anyone that experienced the same problem and found a solution please do post.

Here's how to install XBMC using ssh commands:  http://wiki.xbmc.org/index.php?title=HOW-TO:In...

The site has been updated to include info on installing XBMC on iOS 5 (it's the link I referenced in my prior post).  There's a video posted there, too, which is helpful.

XBMC does work on iOS 5 if you follow the steps documented above.  I, and many others on this site, have been running it successfully for weeks.

Like the man said

Xbmc will appear as an Icon but will not work. It will only disappoint you.

and after rebooting i had to tether boot again and saw the same black Icon again.

I'm so grateful I'd love to thank you with an aluminum spiked bat in a dark ally

1. How in the world are you getting 96/24 audio output when the Apple TV doesn't seem to support 96/24 output? Am I missing something here? According to James 96/24 files may be played, but are downsampled upon output because that's just what the AppleTV does.

2. If I am actually correct (and I'm often not!), would just like to point out the hilarity of someone who thinks they're playing a superior audio format, claiming that said format is glorious when in fact they're actually listening to regular, old, 44.1/16-bit audio. You'd be the poster child for high-resolution-audio skeptics. Placebo much? :p

Hello there, i have question about localzations:
There is written : Added Catalan, Czech, Korean and Traditional Chinese translations. Where can I switch to one of those languages? I cant find it in menu. Do i have to download it and rewrite strings via ssh?
thanks

Submitted by james on April 24, 2012 - 9:05am

The language settings can be adjusted through the Settings --> General --> Language menu.

However, Catalan, Czech and a handful of other languages are only available on the 5.0+ Apple TV software.

Submitted by raul on April 24, 2012 - 1:01pm

Oh, thank you.. I have not noticed that information. So pitty, OS5 is still just tethered, so no localization in this point...

Do not update to iOS 5 if you want to continue to use ATV Flash. The JB is unsteady and mine hangs several times and I have to restore to factory settings and cannot use ATV Flash for now. Waiting for the update..............

Submitted by robertirani@rob... on April 25, 2012 - 6:21pm

Mine is 100% fine !! Love it, with IOS 5. It is rock solid. Just absolutley hanging out for the untethered jailbreak, as in Northern Melbourne, our power company have serious issues with trying to keep our fauna out of their substations, causing at least once a month a power outage. My ATV2 is now on a UPS, but most of our outages are in excess of 4 hours.

The next update could include 'sort by release date' in Media Center. There are only two basic choices: sort by date and sort by name. It would be very nice if we could sort by movie release date.

This has been the best update yet for me. I would get a crash after I played 1 or 2 from media player. Now I have gotten 2 crashes since I updated it (when it came out).

Great Job
