We are pleased to announce the release aTV Flash (black) 1.0 for the 2nd generation AppleTV. aTV Flash (black) supercharges your AppleTV, empowering it to do things you never thought possible! All new features are installed alongside the normal AppleTV features, so things like movie rentals, Netflix, and AirPlay will remain unchanged.

Media Player 0.9.4 Released

aTV Flash (black) RC1 Now Available

We are pleased to announce the release aTV Flash (black) Release Candidate 1 (RC1) for the 2nd generation AppleTV. RC1 is a major update for aTV Flash (black) and adds a number of exciting new features include a brand new 'grid view' browsing mode, huge subtitle related improvements, and countless other performance and playback related improvements.

Seas0nPass Updated for AppleTV 4.4

Seas0nPass has been updated to support a TETHERED jailbreak of the new AppleTV 4.4 (iOS 5) software released on 10/12 (also supported are the new minor updates - 4.4.1 released on 10/17, 4.4.2 released on 10/24, 4.4.3 released on 11/17, and 4.4.4 released on 12/16). Full details on what's new in 4.4, status of 3rd party features, and how to update are below.

Should I update?

Currently the jailbreak for 4.4+ is tethered, which is a bit less convenient than an untethered version. If the features added in 4.4 excite you it may be worth updating; however, the previous 4.3 version will continue to be supported so updating is not required.

Media Player 0.9.1 Released

Media Player 0.9 Released

Happy Monday! Today we are pleased to announce the release of a hefty update of Media Player for the 2nd gen (black) AppleTV. Version 0.9 adds a handful of new features and a ton of performance related improvements and bug fixes. More details on what's included can be found below.

TV Show metadata and folder tagging

Media Player now supports automatically fetching series and episode information for TV Shows. This includes information such as episode name, cast, director, genre, air date, content rating and episode thumbnails. To enable TV Show metadata, the drive/folder that contains your TV Show files will need to be specifically tagged as TV Shows. Details on tagging a drive/folder are below.

  1. Highlight the folder to be tagged.
  2. Hold the center select button and select the 'TV Shows' option.
  3. TV Show metadata will now be used for all media contained inside that folder.

aTV Flash (black) Beta7 Now Available

We are pleased to announce the release aTV Flash (black) Beta7 for the 2nd generation AppleTV.

Beta7 is a major update for aTV Flash (black) and brings a number of great new features to the 2nd gen AppleTV including music playback, Last.fm powered artist slideshows, cloud backups and more.

Music Playback

A new music player has been built into Media Player, which allows you to stream most music file types from a Mac, PC or NAS drive without using iTunes. During playback, album art, track info, and artist images will automatically be downloaded from Last.fm. Artist images are used in slideshows that can be viewed while music is playing in the background. Support for folder playlists is also included.

During playback you can navigate away from the current track, and a new 'Now Playing' option will appear in the main menu which allows you to quickly jump back into your playlist.
