ATV2 Goes Untethered for 5.3

Today we're excited to announce the release of new versions of aTV Flash (black) and Seas0nPass that allow for an untethered jailbreak of Apple TV 5.3 (ATV2 only). Big thanks goes out to @iH8sn0w, @winocm, and @SquiffyPwn for their help with the new version of Seas0nPass. Additionally, there has been some encouraging progress made on Apple TV 6.0+ thanks to our friends @evad3rs and @nitoTV, and we hope to have more news available soon.

Here's more details on what's new and how to update...

What's new in 2.4?

Seas0nPass Cuts the Cord for 5.0.1

Today we are happy to release a brand new version of Seas0nPass that provides an untethered jailbreak of the latest 5.0.1 (iOS 5.1.1) software for the 2nd gen Apple TV. Massive thanks goes to @pod2g and Co. for the countless hours that went into making this new release possible.

Update 6/6: Seas0nPass has been updated to support the new 5.0.2 Apple TV software.

What about the new 3rd gen Apple TV?

Unfortunately Seas0nPass is not yet compatible with the new ATV3. Work is still ongoing and we'll be sure to announce any and all news as soon as it becomes available. Be sure to follow us on Twitter, Facebook and Google+ for up to the minute info.

Apple TV (ATV2) 5.0 Update

Today we're happy to release new versions of Seas0nPass and aTV Flash (black) that are compatible with latest 5.0 (iOS 5.1) software running on the ATV2. A ton of work has gone into getting everything updated, and a huge thanks go out to Brandon Holland (@640774n6) and Dustin Howett (@DHowett) who both contributed immensely in adding support for 5.0.

Is this a tethered or untethered jailbreak? What's the difference?

Seas0nPass currently provides a tethered jailbreak for the new 5.0 (iOS 5.1) Apple TV software. Functionally, both jailbreak types are identical, the only difference being that a tethered jailbreak requires the Apple TV to be connected to a Mac/PC when first powering it on. Since the Apple TV doesn't have a battery, and is rarely ever powered off, this usually only needs to be done once.

Seas0nPass 0.8.2 - Signature Magic

Today we are happy to release a new version of Seas0nPass that simplifies the installation of older firmware versions. This process called 'stitching' allows Seas0nPass to utilize previously saved firmware signatures to jailbreak and restore an Apple TV version that Apple may no longer be signing.

What are signatures? Why do I need them?

Firmware signatures are required to install a particular firmware version onto iOS devices like the Apple TV. When installing the latest version, these signatures will be created in real-time during the iTunes restore process.

However, from time to time some firmware versions will stop being 'signed' by Apple, which will prevent them from being installed. Backing up your firmware signatures allows you to retain the ability to install an older firmware version in the future, should the need ever arise.

Seas0nPass Cuts the Cord for 4.4.4

Happy New Year! Today we are happy to release an updated version of Seas0nPass that supports an untethered jailbreak of the latest 4.4.4 (iOS 5.0.1) AppleTV software. Big thanks goes to the world famous @pod2g for doing the lion's share of the work to make this new version possible.

Seas0nPass Updated for AppleTV 4.4

Seas0nPass has been updated to support a TETHERED jailbreak of the new AppleTV 4.4 (iOS 5) software released on 10/12 (also supported are the new minor updates - 4.4.1 released on 10/17, 4.4.2 released on 10/24, 4.4.3 released on 11/17, and 4.4.4 released on 12/16). Full details on what's new in 4.4, status of 3rd party features, and how to update are below.

Should I update?

Currently the jailbreak for 4.4+ is tethered, which is a bit less convenient than an untethered version. If the features added in 4.4 excite you it may be worth updating; however, the previous 4.3 version will continue to be supported so updating is not required.

Seas0nPass Updated for AppleTV 4.3

Seas0nPass has been updated to support an un-tethered jailbreak of the new AppleTV 4.3 (8F455) software. A big thanks goes to comex for helping port the Saffron jailbreak to the AppleTV. For the uninitiated, Seas0nPass is the simplest jailbreaking tool available for the AppleTV, and the first to support the new 4.3 version.

What's new in AppleTV 4.3?

- iTunes TV Shows: Purchase your favorite TV shows directly from the iTunes Store, and watch the shows you already own, in HD.
- Vimeo: Browse and play videos from Vimeo, access your video inbox, and mark videos you want to watch later.
- 4.3 is also required to access Movie and TV Show rentals.

Seas0nPass Updated for iOS 4.3

Seas0nPass has been updated to support a tethered jailbreak of the new AppleTV 4.2 (iOS 4.3) software. Big thanks to @nitoTV, @DjayB6, @p0sixninja and @msft_guy for help getting everything together.

What's new in AppleTV 4.2? Should I update?

- AirPlay for apps and websites
- MLB.TV & NBA Game Time live streaming
- Netflix Dolby Digital 5.1
- Other minor improvements and fixes
